Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 : On the Other Side

It was a peaceful day in StockRuin Village, the elders had warned all the children playing that a storm was fast approaching.

Adam and his little sister Amy where by the lake, feeding the ducks loafs of bread from the local bakery.

"Amy lets go, you heard the elders, a storm is coming." He said, tapping his fingers on the ground as some ducks passed by.

"On second." She ultered,"mama duck was just telling me great story about bread." She tells him, not bothering to look at him.

Adam gets annoyed and taps his feet harder against the ground, he looks up as the storm clouds approach.

"Seriously, lets go." Adam says, grabbing Amy's hand and pulling her away.

Amy protests a bit, but the immediate sound on thunder removes that.

"Okay lets go home now!!" She yelps loudly, clinging to his back tightly, shaking violently.

Adam just rolls his eyes and start walking. They pass through the shoppijg district, many are closing up shop.

"Darn, lets get home already, im scared." Amy says.

"Its alright, we'll be there in no time, just relax, hey maybe mom made some sweet pork stew for breakfast." Adam says.

Amy calms down and smiles widely, "yeah, and maybe some bread from dad's shop, oh im hungry now, get home now!!" She orders him now, planting both her knees into his back.

Adam groans a bit but continues on. The wind picks up as the sky darkens.

Their house is at the far end of the village. Adam is tired from carrying Amy but they make it as the rain starts falling.

The house is quiet and lamps are off. "Oh, its dark in here." Adam says, letting Amy get down.

Amy walks blindly towards the kitchen, bumping into everything. Adam hears her fall and yelp softly.

Adam finds the matches and a lamp, lighting it up and head towards the kitchen. "Amy dont move in the dark.

You know you have trouble seeing in the..." Adam says but he cuts off.

His eyes widened as he saw Amy crying on the floor, next to her are their parents, laying on the floor. He drops the lamp on the floor.

"Mom ...Dad...are you okay. ..Mom!!! Dad!!!! Wake up, im scared.... please Amy is crying, i don't know what to do!!".

The young boy cried, screaming at his parents to respond. They where covered in blankets as blood turned the fabric a dark red.

A small knife layed beside them, covered in their blood.

He hits them multiple times, trying to get them to move. "Come on, get up, its not fair." He shouts.

His little sister cries louder, she's too young to process what is happening but knows its not right.

Thunder and lightening strike out the house, scaring Amy even more.

"Adam!!! I want mama and papa!!" Amy shouted at him, crying louder than before, she held onto him tightly.

Adam panicks, he doesn't know what to do. His breathing increases rapidly, his skin turning pale.

"Amy, you with Mom a-and Dad, i-i'll find some help, just stay here." He says,

Adam ran out his house, he ran as fast as he could. He tripped on his own feet landing hard on a branch.

It cut his face, leaving a permanent scar on hid left eye, damaging his left eye in the process.

Half blinded but still but still determined, Adam runs and runs, the runs reach fever points as it drops heavily.

Lightening strikes a nearby tree, setting it ablaze. Adam bumps into something hard and metalic.

He looks up and sees that its some knights doing some patrol of the village. Adam tells the knights everything and they agree to help him.

They rush on horse back, moving through the rain with impressive speed and agility, when they reach.

As they reach, they find the house is set ablaze, Adams eyes widen in shock and horror, remembering that he dropped the lamp earlier.

He gets off the horse and immediately rushes towards the house. "Amy!!! Im coming !!!!!." He screams loudly until his throat hurts.

He touches the hot handle of the door, wincing in pain as he turn it, burning his hand in the process.

He falls inside and is immediately overwelmed by the smoke and intense heat.

He searches for her, first the kitchen and the first floor, burning and scaring his skin in the process.

"Amy, where are yo-(cough)." Adam screams so much that he damages his throat, coughing up blood.

One of the kinghts arrives and tries to pull him away, but he refuses.

He grabs a dagger and stabs him in the eye, the knight groans in pain as he falls into the fire.

Adam runs up stairs, leaving the knight as ge begins searching the bedroom, burning his hands further.

As he reaches Amy's room, he kicks open the door and finds her gasping for air on the ground, it seems she tried to reach for the window.

Adam holds her close, "hey its okay. Big bro is here to save you okay, dont worry." He tells her.

The fire reaches the second floor, blocking the way down the stairs, Adam looks out the window and holds Amy close.

He jumps out the window, landing first in a tree before hitting the ground, he breaks his leg and ribs.

He turns to his side as the pain shoots through his body, he crawls towards Amy, leaving a trail of blood behind him.

He holds onto her closely. Shaking as the pain intensifies." Amy, big bro is here...Say 'big brother', Amy....." he whispers as he fades out of conciousness.

Amy stirs a little in his embrass. "A-adam...Adam.....Adam.." she repeats. Adam hears this as he fades.

"Adam..... Adam!!!...Adam!!!!... oh my...for the love of Zeus, wake up already!!!!." Someone screams at him.

Adam jolts up, falling off the crates with a hard thud. He rubs his temples with his fingers. "Ugh..... where am i?." He asks.

"You're on the train headed towards Stillbrook, geez i don't know whats wrong with you somethings." Amy tells him.

"Yeah, say Amy, do you have nightmares, like from when we where still kids?" He asks, rubbing his bandaged covered hands.

Amy looks at him suspiciously, "no i dont, besides that was like 12 years ago dude, things have changed...." she says, looking down a bit.

"Yeah, i guess you're right." He says, getting up and dusting himself.

The train moving effortlessly across the tracks , it takes a sharp turn, causing the crates and to fall.

"Damn it, why didn't we just pay for a ticket like normal people.." Amy complains as a crate hits ger head.

Adam just laughs and opens the door, he looks outside admiring the world.

The train passes through a forest, the scene straight out of a fantasy story.

Adam gestures Amy to sit next to him. Amy rolls her eyes and decides to sit besides him, she leans into him, getting comfortable.

"Hey do you believe that this is real, you know this whole journey, you think that the gods would do something like this?" Amy asks.

Adam thinks about her question, "well, im not really sure, to tell you the truth, im here for the fun"...

Besides like dad always used to say, 'the best secrets are the ones you know nothing about.' He says, smiling.

Amy sighs loudly, but she doesnt say anything.

The train approaches an overpass, Adam and Amy step back inside, waiting to see what other side has to offer.
