Synopsis
No ritual. No warning. No escape. Now there are devils living within his soul— one commenting on his choices, offering terrible advice, and the other occasionally trying to take the wheel. Hunters want him dead. Demons want him useful. And Drex just wants five minutes of peace without voices in his head. Unfortunately, the devil has other plans. Dragged into a war of contracts, devils and increasingly questionable life decisions, Drex must survive a world where every power-up comes with a catch, every ally is suspicious, and his own body may or may not betray him at the worst possible moment. In a world where flesh breaks, shadows think, and possession is a management problem, Drex learns one painful truth: Being possessed isn’t the worst part. Sharing control is.

Chapter 1 - What A Life

No POV:

It was the crack of dawn. The light barely passing through the curtains. There was a certain someone who was already awake before then; his black hair gently spread over his face; his black colored eyes darting to every corner of the room in which he lay... For any other person, they would be worrying of a devil bursting through the window but for Drex, he couldn't care less. A lot has been on his mind lately and he didn't have time to be worrying about something like that.. He checked his clock and saw that the time was 5:30am. With a sigh he got up to get ready for school— not that he had a choice anyway. After doing his morning routine, he went down stairs to where his aunt and uncle were already at the dining table waiting for him to have breakfast...

Walking down the stairs —taking one step after the other, slowly reaching the dining room, he saw his aunt and uncle. He glanced at my phone and saw that the time was already 6:20am. Realizing he spent almost one hour in his room, he quickly went to the table and greeted them.

"Good morning Drex how was your night". His aunt seeing him, greeted first

He just shrugged... "Morning... It was good I guess"

Anyone who saw this would know that he was lying though. The bags under his eyes were a dead give away that he barely slept at all.

His uncle spoke up. "Well I'm glad you're doing better.. Your aunt and I would be coming back from work early today thats why we're up early"

"Ohh ok...."

His uncle gave a slight frown at his seemingly nonchalant attitude but decided to look past it. They have been living together for almost a year so he had to get used to it. Whether he liked it or not...

Nothing much happened after that they just ate in silence for about 30 minutes... It was usually quiet but neither his uncle or aunt liked it. Every attempt to make small talk ended abruptly with Drex give short one worded answers.

After trying and failing, they decided to just leave him be.

Standing up to leave Drex turned to them. "Uhmm i'll get going now thanks for breakfast"

"You're welcome dear see you soon."

That was all he heard as he closed the door with a sigh and walked off to school, with his one and only goal...

Get through the day...

~~~~~~
As Drex made his way to school, he couldn't help but notice corpses of devils littered here and there. Of course it had to be normal considering the fact that devil activity has risen in recent weeks....
'Looks like the hunters are at it again' he thought; in th next moment he stepped on a devil corpse which made a 'pop' sound as some blood shot out of it. He stopped, bent down and took a closer look at at the devil and doing that made him remember a lot about his past.
He had been living a seemingly normal life but it all changed when his family was attacked by a rampaging devil killing his parents.
He spent several months in the orphanage until he was adopted by his uncle and aunt.
It's been a year and since then and they were doing a good job in taking care of him.
He knew that his attitude wasn't bringing them so much joy as a foster child. Maybe he should be a bit more grateful...
But he's been living in total isolation for as long as he could remember— He was bullied, ostracized and left alone.
Years of going through endless pain and struggle led him to withdraw into his shell. He knew it would be hard to step out of it even if he wanted to and he had no plans on trying. At all.
He felt that if he stayed as far away from people as possible, he would save them the stress of worrying about a piece of shit like him.
'Piece of shit huh..' It pained him to think like that but somebody like him didn't have self esteem let alone the gall to defend it.
Standing up, he continued his walk to school; alone, like he always did. The neighborhood was a rather friendly environment but his lack of social skills left him unable to even maintain eye contact let alone make friends.
~~~~~~~

Meanwhile in another part of the city a devil that was hunched over a corpse he devoured was speaking seemingly talking to some other devils. He had a slight frown as he spoke.

"It's been weeks and still no luck. I knew it would be hard but this is way beyond my expectations. Opening a portal is relatively easy but what comes out of it isn't always what you planned."

Wiping his mouth, he signalled the other devils to follow him. With that, he and every other devil present leaped away from that area, leaving the bloodied corpse behind.

~~~~~~
In another area, a couple of people were passing by.. One of them wearing a mask with a sword strapped behind him, another wearing a simple jumpsuit but had guns on his back and hips. These two individuals were scouting the area when one of them decided to speak.
" So Vax what do you think we should do when we encounter this devil?"
The person being spoken to stayed silent.
"Thought so.. You don't talk much its understandable.." He brought a hand to his chin thinking.
"Although it wouldn't be wise to attack on sight. It may be an A rank but we don't know how dangerous it really is."
They both reached the area the devil just left and upon seeing the half eaten body the hunter welding the guns spoke up.
" Thought so; Vax over here.. we need to let the Captain know about this...."
Suddenly, an explosion was heard in another area promoting them to move towards it.
~~~~~~~

Drex had already reached his school at this point. He stared at the school gate looming over him.

"Another day..." He sighed tiredly.

Pushing the gates open, he began his walk to his class. As usual, he ignored the stares and audible whispers around him. It's already a painfully normal part of his life at this point so no point being hurt by it now.

As he reached his locker however he heard footsteps. Heavy footsteps. Fast footsteps.

Were they running?

What did he do this time?

He was about to get it. He knew. It was inevitable.

But they could at least let him get to class... It's way too early in the morning for this..

"Yo bud how you doing!!".

"Oh..". Drex recognized this voice. He never had people meeting him so he wasn't very used to this.

"'Oh?' C'mon man you could at least pretend to be excited to meet up. Why so gloomy so early in the morning?"

"Hello Jean."

Jean flashed his award winning smile. Drex had forgotten. There was one person who stubbornly inserted himself into his life and he had no way of escaped.

Jean was your not-so-typical schoolmate. He was tall— about the same height with Drex. Athletic with the looks to match. He had short spiky hair, brown eyes and a firm muscular build. He was a bit sweaty probably because he had to do some early morning practice before showing up. As the captain of the school's soccer team he had to stay in shape.

"That's more like it.. wonderful day isn't it."

"I guess so"

"I'd really love it it you put more emotions in your words"

As they were conversing, two other people stood in front of them. They stared Drex down eyeing him from head to toe.

Drex on the other hand stared blankly at them. His expression plain. As always...

"Jean why do we always see you too together. It's kinda off putting don't you think?" One of them spoke earning a nod from the other.

"Yeah if people keep seeing you two like this, it could really damage your reputation don't you think?"

"Awww c'mon. You know I can't leave him alone. He's my bud y'know". Jean replied flinging one of his arms over Drex's shoulder.

Drex saw this coming. As always...

Have a few minutes of forced conversation, bad mouthed in front Jean and Jean having to fight them off. It was a norm.

After a while they left. Not long after that the bell rang signalling the start of the school day.

"Well gotta run see you later bud!"

Jean enthusiastically waved at him before running off to class.

They had separate classes till around noon so he had about 4 hours of peace before he had to deal with that again.

However, even though Drex seemed bothered by this, he quite enjoyed it— Someone who interacted with him without getting tire even with his attempts to push him away.

Jean knew this and he wouldn't deny that he was rather enjoying it himself.
