Chapter 1 - Solaris

— Year 1539 (Gaia calendar) 11:59, Monday

Deius- Infernos empire capital

It was a normal day for Deius, The sun was shining, the sky was clear. Along the streets, the people walked along the streets, some stopping at stalls to buy goods, sitting at diners enjoying their meals while reading news papers, others walking while checking their watches for the time constantly, as if in a rush.

Sharon, a simple seamstress, walked down sun street, a popular market street she often visited down to do her shopping. she held two large brown bags in her hands.

Her short curly brown hair blew slightly in the wind as she glanced around for anything else she could buy.

'Today is Maya's 10th birthday so I should splurge a little.'

She thought to her savings and counted.

'The I bought a 5 pound chicken for about 2.5 Silvers, the seasonings for about 1.5 Silvers, this weeks bread for 250 Coppers and the flour for about 400 Coppers. With what we have at home we should be good until I go shopping properly.'

She looked around at the shops for something she could buy as a special present to her daughter.

'No... No... She wouldn't like that... No that's too expensive.'

Then, something caught her eye. She stopped and stared at it for a moment.

Gulp...

She unconsciously gulped.

'This is for Maya, yeah... For Maya.'

She stepped toward the shop and entered it.

"Hello, good Morning." Sharon looked at the cashier with a polite smile as the greeted him.

"Good Morning miss, how may I help you?" The man replied with a similar smile.

Sharon's gaze drifted down to the cakes and asked, "How much for your fruit cake?"

She pointed to the displayed cake under the counter.

"Ah!" The man knelt down and opened a door at the back of the counter, reaching his hand in and sliding out the dark colored cake and placing it on the counter.

"Our fruit cake here, is for 6 Silvers."

Sharon winced, and almost let out a weird sound, but she held herself back. 'Just my luck, that's exact amount of money I have left on me.'

*Sigh*… She took out her last 6 silvers and gave it to the man who was packing the cake into a box.

'I guess I'm walking home today.' she thought dejectedly.

After storing the money, the man wrote up a receipt and placed it on the cake box before handing it to Sharon.

"Thank you for shopping at Mike's bakery." He waved at her as she walked out of the store.

Sharon awkwardly held the box in her hands. 'I have no money left for a carriage so I guess I'll have to walk home.'

Although it wasn't needed as she didn't live too far but she'd rather taking a carriage after shopping so she didn't have to walk with everything she bought, but to make her and her daughters happy she spent every penny she had.

Step…

She began walking home, almost bouncing on her feet, as she hummed a happy tune.

*

As Sharon walked, she finally spotted the corner she needed to turn to reach her home. She sped up her pace, wanting to reach home quicker to see her daughters and husband to officially begin Maya's birth day.

But as she came closer to the corner, she felt compelled to slow down, as a terrifying chill ran down her spine. Something was wrong, very wrong.

She wanted no more than to run away, her heart beat quickened, cold sweat fell down her cheek, her face grew pale. She almost turned to run, but she stopped and thought for a moment.

'What about Maya, Ashley, and Gerard? Did something happen to them? Are they alright?'

BOOM!...

As if listening to her fears, a large explosion, followed by a loud crashing sound resounded through the air, the wind of the shockwave caused her to stumble.

The sound echoed in her ears, and something snapped. She dropped the stuff in her hands and bolted around the corner as fast as she could. With each step she took, the faster her heart grew quicker. It was to the point that she felt her chest on fire.

Step... Step... Step...

As she took the last step, reaching to her house, She paled and tears filled her eyes.

"No..." Her voice came out horse.

"No this can't be happening..." Tears streamed down her face, her body going limp as she fell to her knees.

At the spot where her house used to be, a pile of ruble was left, her house and all the houses beside it were completely destroyed, gone, along with anyone who was in it at the time.

Above the ruble, was a massive, oily black tentacle rushing past the houses, destroying everything in its path.

Bang…

The rumbling noises beside her grew louder and louder, eventually they reach directly next to her.

With hollow eyes she thought, 'This is it, I guess.'

As the thought crossed her mind, her vision went black, followed by a disgusting squelching sound.

***

A pillar of golden light shot into the sky, piercing the darkened clouds.

The world shook as two beasts of light—A wolf and a fox— ran gracefully up the pillar of light in a spiral dance-like motion. After the two beasts rose high above Deius, they merged into one form, absorbing the pillar of light as they did.

As the two beast finished merging they form a creature that looked like the both a wolf and a fox. It was a strange mix, but it looked ethereal and majestic, like a divine creature from heaven. its golden fur shimmering with light, white, wave-like patterns along it body, and dark eyes with golden scleras and white pupils.

The creature turned into streams of light that formed a human with short golden hair and slight stubble. His eyes were like pools of liquid gold. He wore white priest's robes with golden patterns and a red stole with similar patterns and the golden image of a sun on it. He was like and embodiment of the sun.

His golden gaze landed on the ruined area of Deius below him.

"It seems there is an unwelcomed guest within Deius." His voice was soft and ethereal like that of an angels.

His gaze moved, the image of a rising cloud of dust entered it, within it, was a dark unknown mass. As if sensing his gaze, dark oily tentacles shot up towards him.

"Under the watchful eye of our graceful god, Solaris and In my name, The saint of purity, Gabriel, BEGONE!"

Gabriel moved his hand forward and snapped. A beam of light enveloped the dark creature, and it burst into flames.

"Under the light of the sun..."

Gabriel floated down and stepped in front of the burning creature.

"May you find peace in warmth."

He placed his hand onto the creature with a sorrowful look as if mourning its death, as it crumbled into dust.

"Our god Solaris will provide." He looked at the ashes with a look of compassion.
