Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: A Result No One Expected

Morning rain fell lightly over the city, leaving the streets below the Valen Business Academy shimmering under grey clouds.

Students gathered in clusters around the main lobby screen where the evaluation results would soon be posted. The atmosphere buzzed with tension and quiet excitement.

For many of them, this academy was more than a school.

It was a gateway into the most powerful business networks in the country.

One successful admission could determine the course of an entire future.

Aria Valen stood slightly apart from the crowd, her back resting lightly against a marble pillar.

Her expression was calm.

Too calm for someone waiting for such an important result.

But Aria already knew the outcome.

Not because she had experienced this exact moment before, but because she understood something most of the candidates here did not.

The academy did not reward effort.

It rewarded power.

And power always recognized intelligence.

Her performance yesterday had been deliberate.

Not perfect.

Perfect would attract too much attention.

But impressive enough to make her impossible to ignore.

A loud beep suddenly echoed through the lobby.

The large digital screen flickered to life.

RESULTS — ENTRANCE EVALUATION

The crowd surged forward immediately.

Names began appearing on the screen one by one.

Passed candidates were highlighted in green.

Failed candidates appeared in red.

Excited whispers filled the room.

"Yes!"

"I made it!"

"Unbelievable…"

A few disappointed voices followed as well.

Aria watched calmly as the list scrolled.

Then—

ARIA VALEN — ACCEPTED

A small ripple of surprise passed through the students nearby.

Someone behind her murmured quietly.

"That's Adrian Valen's daughter."

"Of course she passed."

Another voice added,

"Connections."

Aria didn't react.

Let them believe that.

It made things easier.

Because if they underestimated her…

They would never see her coming.

She stepped forward and scanned the rest of the list briefly.

Several names stood out.

Future business leaders.

Future rivals.

Future allies.

All people she would eventually need to understand.

But for now, one result was enough.

She had successfully entered the academy.

Which meant the first door into the Valen corporate world had opened.

A staff member stepped forward to address the newly admitted candidates.

"Congratulations," she said. "All successful candidates will attend the orientation session tomorrow morning."

The crowd slowly began to disperse.

Aria turned toward the exit.

But just as she reached the door, a familiar voice stopped her.

"Aria?"

She turned.

Bianca stood a few steps away, her eyes wide with surprise.

Her stepsister wore a light blue dress and looked as sweet and harmless as ever.

In her previous life, Bianca had rarely visited the academy.

She had preferred social events and charity gatherings.

But today she had come.

Of course she had.

Bianca hurried over.

"I heard the results were being posted today," she said excitedly. "So I came to see how you did."

Her eyes sparkled.

"You passed!"

Aria smiled faintly.

"Yes."

Bianca clapped her hands softly.

"That's amazing! I didn't even know you were serious about applying."

Aria studied her stepsister quietly.

Bianca's excitement looked genuine.

But Aria knew the truth.

Bianca always played her role perfectly.

Concerned sister.

Supportive friend.

Carefully gathering information while appearing completely innocent.

"I decided it was time to try something new," Aria said calmly.

Bianca tilted her head.

"You've really changed lately."

Her tone was light.

But there was curiosity beneath it.

Aria held her gaze for a moment.

"People grow."

Bianca laughed softly.

"I suppose that's true."

Then she linked her arm through Aria's as they walked outside.

"You'll have to tell Father tonight," she said cheerfully.

"He'll be so proud of you."

Aria didn't answer.

Because she already knew exactly how Adrian Valen would react.

That evening, the Valen estate dining room felt colder than usual.

The rain outside had grown heavier, tapping softly against the tall windows.

Adrian Valen sat at the head of the table as always.

Celeste sat beside him.

Bianca was already in her seat.

Aria entered the room quietly.

Adrian looked up immediately.

"I heard the academy released their results today."

Of course he had.

Information traveled quickly in his world.

Aria took her seat calmly.

"Yes."

"And?"

"I was accepted."

The room fell silent for a moment.

Bianca smiled brightly.

"I told you she'd pass!"

Celeste's expression softened.

"That's wonderful news, dear."

But Adrian did not smile.

He studied Aria carefully.

"How well did you perform?"

Aria met his gaze calmly.

"Well enough to be admitted."

Adrian's eyes narrowed slightly.

"That wasn't my question."

A quiet tension settled over the table.

In her previous life, Aria would have immediately apologized for being vague.

This time she simply held his gaze.

"The evaluators seemed satisfied."

The answer was deliberately neutral.

Adrian leaned back slightly in his chair.

"You've never shown interest in business before."

"I've had time to think."

The same words she had used during the interview.

Adrian tapped his fingers lightly against the table.

His instincts were clearly unsettled.

Something about her behavior didn't match the daughter he thought he knew.

Good.

Let him wonder.

Let him doubt.

The more unpredictable she became, the harder it would be for him to control her.

Celeste broke the silence with a warm smile.

"Well, regardless of the details, this is a proud moment for the family."

Her eyes turned toward Aria.

"We should celebrate."

Aria smiled politely.

"That's not necessary."

But Celeste shook her head gently.

"Nonsense. Achievements should always be recognized."

Bianca nodded eagerly.

"Yes! We should have dinner in the city this weekend."

Adrian remained silent.

His gaze never left Aria.

Finally he spoke again.

"You will attend the academy starting tomorrow?"

"Yes."

"And after that?"

Aria lifted her teacup calmly.

"I'll focus on learning."

Adrian's voice hardened slightly.

"Remember something, Aria."

She looked up.

"The academy is not a playground."

"I understand."

"If you embarrass the Valen name—"

"I won't."

Her interruption was quiet.

But firm.

The words hung in the air.

For a brief moment, Adrian looked genuinely surprised.

Aria lowered her teacup slowly.

"Father," she said calmly.

"I wouldn't have applied if I wasn't serious."

The silence stretched again.

Then Adrian gave a short nod.

"Very well."

But his expression remained thoughtful.

Suspicious.

Aria could almost see the gears turning in his mind.

Trying to understand the sudden transformation of his daughter.

What he didn't realize…

Was that the daughter he remembered no longer existed.

Far across the city, in the top floor office of a towering glass skyscraper, another man was also thinking about Aria Valen.

The office belonged to one of the most powerful corporations in the country.

And the man standing near the window controlled it.

The city lights stretched endlessly below him.

A quiet knock sounded on the door.

"Come in," he said without turning.

An assistant stepped inside.

"Sir, the academy evaluation reports arrived."

The man extended his hand.

The folder was placed into it.

He opened it slowly.

Page after page listed the top candidates.

But his attention stopped on a single name.

ARIA VALEN.

His dark eyes scanned the report carefully.

Simulation score.

Strategic analysis.

Evaluator notes.

A faint smile appeared on his lips.

"Interesting."

The assistant hesitated.

"Sir?"

The man closed the folder.

"Arrange a meeting with the academy board."

"Yes, sir."

The assistant paused before asking,

"Is there a problem with one of the candidates?"

The man looked back toward the glowing city.

"No."

His voice was calm.

"But there is someone I want to observe."

His fingers tapped lightly against the folder.

"Aria Valen."

The name lingered in the air.

Somewhere across the city, Aria sat quietly in the Valen estate dining room, calmly planning the next step of her revenge.

Neither of them knew it yet.

But their paths were already moving toward the same collision point.

And when they finally met

Nothing in the city's balance of power would remain the same
