Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Uma Musume, but Starting with Mordekaiser

P.S. Just to make this clear from the start: there will be no plotlines involving harm to the horse girls.

"…No, seriously, what even is this?"

After a brief silence, the petite girl sitting in a wheelchair slowly opened her eyes and blurted out her shock.

Right before she shut them, the thing in front of her had been that giant pink "cutie" known as the Hundred-Ton King, hadn't it? So where had this bizarre fountain in front of her come from?

No, more importantly—

What was going on with her?

Using the clear surface of the fountain pool as a mirror, the girl finally got a good look at herself.

She had shoulder-length silver-white hair. When the breeze brushed past it, it called to mind crashing waves and snow-white spray. Her eyes were a pale pink, giving her a rather cute look at first glance. But her complexion was an unhealthy white, and the ears atop her head drooped limply, making her look utterly drained.

Ears?

The girl hurriedly reached up and touched the top of her head. Yes, she still had stereo hearing, but this was terrifying in an entirely different way. Why had her ears grown on top of her head? And why had they turned into animal ears?

Come to think of it, something behind her felt strange too, like it was swaying back and forth. She quickly reached behind herself.

Yes. A smooth tail extended from the base of her spine.

She tugged on it hard—and immediately winced so badly tears sprang to her eyes. That meant it was definitely part of her body.

She had really turned into a beast-girl.

Even though the chronic pain that had plagued her all her life seemed to have vanished, and her face was still basically the same as before, the girl was on the verge of mentally collapsing.

She had been frail and sickly since childhood, never once able to run and play with other kids. At most, she had been able to sit and chat with the two girls she was closest to. The old director at the orphanage had pitied her and doted on her, giving her one precious hour of computer time a day. That was how she had learned about the outside world.

And as far as she knew, beast-girls did not exist in that world.

So there was only one explanation:

She had hit the jackpot and gotten transported to another world.

In this unfamiliar place, she knew nothing and could do nothing. What was she supposed to do now? What if something terrible happened to her?

Just then, a woman's voice came from nearby, drawing closer and closer.

"Hello? Are you here alone? Where's your guardian? You're in a wheelchair… are you okay? Do you feel sick anywhere?"

At first, the voice was soft and fluffy, like a piece of sweet cotton candy. But by the time it got close, there was also a mix of irritation, nervousness, and concern in it—as if the speaker was genuinely upset to find her here all by herself.

Was this person… worried about her?

If so, then the owner of that voice had to be a kind-hearted little angel.

Come to think of it, how was she even able to pick out such complicated emotions from someone's voice?

Was that some kind of racial trait?

She didn't really understand, but if it was, that would be nice. If she could sense people's emotions, maybe she'd be able to avoid bad people.

Subconsciously, the girl looked toward the source of the voice.

The other girl had long pink hair and pink eyes, her expression filled half with concern and half with worry.

But there were no strange animal ears on her head.

So she was a normal human.

"Ah, I'm Yui. Chihaya Yui. I'm not some suspicious person—here, this is my trainer ID."

The pink-haired girl introduced herself in a friendly tone and even held out what looked like some kind of identification.

"What's your name? And where's your guardian?"

"Um… aren't you scared of me?"

The girl pointed at the top of her own head, trying to indicate what was so abnormal about her.

Could it be that only she could see her beast-girl form?

Quietly thinking it over, she pointed upward again but didn't say anything more. If the other girl couldn't see her ears, then maybe she could just pretend to be an ordinary human.

In another world, the safest thing to do was be careful.

That said… the language was the same?

Now that was lucky.

"Hm?" Chihaya Yui tilted her head, clearly thinking this little horse girl in front of her was somewhat strange. Even so, she still smiled and praised her.

"Scared? Not at all. I think you're a very cute gray horse girl, little miss."

"…."

The girl fell silent.

So her nonhuman identity had been completely exposed from the very beginning.

But judging from how warmly Yui was treating her, this was probably a world where beast-girls and humans lived peacefully together.

After talking with her for a while, the girl came to understand her situation.

As expected, she really had been transported to another world.

This world had a special intelligent race called horse girls, who lived in harmony with ordinary humans. There were no horses here, and horse racing had instead become a running sport performed by horse girls.

These girls were called Uma Musume.

To become an Uma Musume and stand upon the winners' stage—

That was every horse girl's dream.

Run…?

For someone who had been weak and sickly all her life, running had always been a distant, almost unreal concept. Just taking care of herself had already required every ounce of effort she had.

But now, everything was different.

She could feel it clearly—her body had improved tremendously.

No, "improved" wasn't enough.

It felt better than it ever had before.

The old her had always been frail and listless. But now, her body felt light, as though there was nothing left to fear—

No, no, no. Don't go raising death flags.

More importantly, she felt full of strength.

Did that mean she could run freely now, too?

The thought made her strangely excited.

What's done was done. She had already become a horse girl, so there was no point dwelling on the past. The late matron of the orphanage surely wouldn't have wanted that for her either.

So she gave herself a new name:

Xingyun Liuge.

Originally, she had wanted to name herself following the pattern of that undefeated Triple Crown horse girl Chihaya Yui had mentioned. But then she remembered something ridiculous people online used to say:

"Five-character names never work."

So she went with four characters instead.

Still, after being transported into another world and becoming a horse girl born to run, didn't this all feel a little too… ordained?

She really hoped whatever god might or might not exist out there didn't have such twisted tastes.

A prank-loving deity dropping some "gift" on her?

No thank you.

But from Xingyun Liuge's point of view, she genuinely had gotten lucky.

Because Chihaya Yui was truly concerned for her.

"Honestly, what kind of parents would abandon a little filly who doesn't understand anything in a place like this? How can people like that even exist?"

Then Yui said she could take Xingyun Liuge to Kasamatsu Tracen Academy to ask for help. Maybe they could find her family; and even if they couldn't, at the very least they could find her somewhere to stay.

After thinking it over for a moment, Xingyun Liuge—who had nowhere else to go—agreed.

That said, she didn't trust this kind passerby completely. She still kept her guard up at a basic level.

Before agreeing, and even while talking with Yui, Xingyun Liuge had been multitasking, quietly studying the strange "popup window" that had appeared in her mind.

With a single thought, the interface would naturally surface in her consciousness. It was incredibly convenient.

And it was clearly some kind of mysterious power that only she could see.

But there was something very odd about it.

The character displayed in her mind wasn't herself at all.

Instead, it was from an online game she knew:

Mordekaiser, the Iron Revenant.

"Destiny. Domination. Deceit."

Got it, got it. There were humans and beast-girls here, and Runeterra also had humans and Vastaya, so clearly this was the world of League of Legends, right?

Yeah, right.

As if!

Xingyun Liuge was filled with question marks.

A friend had gotten her into the game before. She had read the lore and watched the animations. But nowhere in all of Runeterra had she ever heard of a sport where people raced by running!

And Chihaya Yui had a smartphone.

Runeterra definitely didn't have those.

So what exactly was this Iron Guy supposed to be?

Was this special ability even legal?

Could some horrible cursed thing suddenly crawl out of it?

Xingyun Liuge carefully checked it over.

A passive, four skills, six item slots, and two summoner spells.

At first glance, there didn't seem to be anything especially wrong with it.

Well—aside from the fact that one of the summoner spell slots had an option called Ultimate Spellbook, and Mordekaiser's portrait frame had two reroll dice on it.

Other than that, it was probably totally normal.

Mm-hm.

And if she ignored the fact that, with a single thought, she could apparently slam down Nightfall, the Mace of Spades—

then yes, there was absolutely nothing wrong here at all.

Xingyun Liuge was completely at a loss.

So what the hell is this supposed to be?!
