Synopsis
For nearly a decade, "Apocalyptic Challenge System" wasn't just Jinoo Kim's favorite game; it was his sanctuary. He'd poured his heart and soul into its intricate world, mastering its complex mechanics, unraveling its cryptic lore, and battling its monstrous creatures—a digital escape from the harsh realities of his life as an orphan navigating university and the complexities of a new family. Then, the unthinkable happened. The game's final screen didn't offer a victory fanfare; it delivered a chilling ultimatum: the apocalypse had arrived, not in pixels, but on his doorstep. The monsters he'd slain countless times in the virtual realm were now tearing through his city. But Jinoo wasn't terrified; he was ready. Years of obsessive gameplay hadn't just honed his reflexes; they'd forged a deep, almost mystical understanding of the game—a pansophy that granted him unparalleled insight into its hidden rules, its forgotten history, and the true nature of its enigmatic antagonists, the Disciples. This wasn't just a game anymore; it was a war, and Jinoo, armed with his encyclopedic knowledge of the "Apocalyptic Challenge System," was its unlikely general. He possessed the key to ending the chaos, to rewriting the game's final, terrifying chapter. But to save his world, he'd have to use his mastery of the virtual to conquer the very real nightmare unfolding around him. The line between pixels and reality had vanished, and the fight for survival had just begun.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Let the game begin

My name is Jinoo Kim, 20 years old. The name Jin in Jinoo was from the Islamic word "Jinn" meaning devil or demon-like being while noo or nu meaning "Who" in korean. To sum it all my name means Who Devil or Unknown Devil, that's why I use the name Mephisto in the games I play.

Right now I'm preparing to go to school, at Kyung Hee University. Even though I'm an orphan, I was given scholarship by my Father's friend and co-worker Mr Go Chang-jun from the company he works on. Mr Go Chang-jun raised me like I was his own son, but, his real Son, Go Chan-seung doesn't seem to like me that much. He often gives me those intense glares as if I was a fly that flew on his food.

"Oii, Jinoo Kim, let's go." a gruff voice cut through his thoughts. Go Chan-seung, Mr. Go's biological son, stood impatiently by my room's door frame, his face half-hidden behind a patchwork of bandages. The sight was familiar; Chan-seung seemed to attract trouble like a magnet. His tanned skin and tall, muscular figure covering the light behind him, the patches on his face actually look kinda attractive and cool.

Jinoo tied his shoelaces, stoop up, took his bag and walked towards the guy. "Why is your face covered in patches? Did you got in another fight?" Jinoo asked the Chan-seung, his tone mixed with worry and curiosity.

"Who the heck are you? Mom? It's none of your business Jinoo." Chan-seung bluntly said, his voice gruff as he walked pass by Jinoo while holding his bag.

Is this guy really Mr Go Chang-jun's son? Why is this guy so rude. Shouldn't he call me Hyung instead of Jinoo Kim. Jinoo thought as he followed the Guy towards the gate.

"Should we walk towards the station or call a cab?" Jinoo asked as he walked beside the Guy.

"Go Chanseung?.." Jinoo called out.

"You can call a cab if you want, I'll walk." Chan-seung said as he walked away.

"...Okay?"

[As the first player to reach the game's end, we'll grant you privileges. The game will start in 5 minutes.] a screen like object that glows a bright blue light appeared in front of Jinoo.

Just then, Jinoo's phone buzzed, shifting his attention to his phone as the magic screen disappeared, someone has sent a message or called. Jinoo rummaged his bag, trying to find his phone.

"Ohh, here it is." Jinoo said as he raised his phone. On his phone screen was written *Go Chan-jun* Jinoo answered the call as he glanced at Chan-seung who was walking quite far already.

"Uncle Chan-jun! What made you call?" Jinoo said politely as he leaned his phone to his ear. "Jinoo, can you keep an eye on Chan-seung for me? I heard he's been in fights lately. Sorry for being unable to get home for almost a month now Jinoo." Mr Chan-jun said, his voice mixed with sorry and worry. "It's okay uncle, I'm sure Chan-seung understands why you're unable to come home lately, besides he's a grown man he's even bigger than me." Jinoo cheerfully said as he looked at Chan-seung from afar.

A woman voice called Mr Chan-jun. "I'll hang up now Jinoo, good bye." Mr Chan-jun said and hang up. "Bye?" Jinoo said.

All of a sudden a loud crash erupted from afar where Chan-seung was headed. Jinoo's mind raced as he ran frantically, dropping his phone on the way.

[Survive the rampaging creatures. Reward for succession : gift.] It appeared in front of Jinoo like a magic tablet.

Go Chan-seung was walking over there... Jinoo thought as he sees a large creature resembling a mole with two sharp horns.

Die already... I want to be free. A voice sounded in Jinoo's thought yet he didn't hear the sound.
