Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Golden Finger

In a forest lying on a patch of grass he slowly opened his eyes and as he did he frantically stood up jumping wildly as if something was burning him

"Help,"

"Help,"

"Help,"

...

He shouted while rolling foolishly on the ground as if he were being whipped by something

In a big room that looked like an office filled with monitors his actions were being broadcasted on a large screen to the entire world

The people who were standing and those who were sitting watching the scene were completely dumbfounded

"The tournament just started and this kid already has a few loose screws. Should we take him out?" asked a man in green clothes with white hair.

He looked imposing and tough as he watched the holographic screen.

"You idiot. What are you shouting for?" barked another man wearing a black uniform.

Hearing his loud voice, all the high-ranking officers inside turned to him.

"What's this idiot shouting about now" the same man said with a scowl.

"Sir the person over there is his adopted son" a nearby soldier quietly explained.

"Oh I see no wonder he's an idiot" the man laughed.

"Even if the blood isn't the same it looks like the stupidity runs in the family"

Hearing his laugh that man glared at him coldly, "What did you say you dog" the man shouted.

"Who are you calling a dog" he shouted back.

"You deaf or something? Who else would I be calling a dog other than you"

"Paquito do you want to exchange fists right here and now" the man growled.

"You mutt you think I am afraid or something? Even if that brat is useless at least my daughter can beat your daughter" Paquito laughed loudly mocking him.

"I get that your daughter Ariana is very talented, but when it comes to talent and skills, my daughter Jessica should not be underestimated," he corrected him.

"Oh, then what about a bet?" Paquito said with a smile.

"You think you can scare me with that? I'll bet one thousand high grade mana crystals," Nolan barked.

"Why are you shouting? Bah, your breath freaking stinks. In order to not lose face, I will also bet one thousand high grade mana crystals," Paquito said, not backing down.

"You two are already adults and you're still arguing like kids," said an old man from an elevated platform.

He wore plain clothing with nothing special, but it was exactly that ordinariness and his position that made him scarier than the others that are presents.

...

"Help"

"Help"

"Help"

Jeff kept shouting as he rolled in the patch of grass. Suddenly, he opened his eyes and sat up, checking himself.

"Heh, I'm actually fine?" he muttered in shock as he touched his face.

"Also, where the heck am I?" he said, wandering his gaze across the lively forest.

Then all of a sudden, overflowing knowledge surged into him, making him feel refreshed and helping him understand exactly where he was.

His name is Jeff Anzon, the adopted son of the Anzon family, a high-ranking household. He was born with very low talent in becoming an awakener or excelling in other professions.

Even though his cultivation level was low, he still had to participate because he belonged to the Anzon family.

...

"Hey, you idiot, when the tournament starts, leave quickly. That place doesn't belong to you since you're so weak," Paquito said to him.

They were currently in a large empty office room. Jeff stood there and simply nodded his head, knowing he really had no place in this kind of world.

"Not becoming an awakener is not a problem. Just find something to fill your life, and that's already good. That is all, you can leave now."

With that, he took out a talisman that had an engraving on it. If used, it would teleport him outside the place.

The tournament was called the Crucible Gauntlet, where every awakener between the ages of eighteen and twenty could participate and compete.

This battle was broadcast all over the world, and they were given three weeks to survive in this place.

There were four regions, and luckily, he was teleported into the forest region.

Then he felt a refreshing sensation wash over him. He looked at his stats, which were still very low. All of a sudden, he heard a rustling sound.

He slowly turned his head. Out came a blue slime, wobbling its way forward.

It was about the size of a dodgeball, with big round eyes and a body that looked more like a jellybean than a monster.

But to him, it was death incarnate, "W-WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!"

With a scream only dogs could hear, he bolted in the opposite direction, his legs flailing, arms pinwheeling, and breath hitching like a squeaky toy.

Meanwhile, in the office where the high-ranking officials were watching his every move, they were stunned.

Then, one by one, they burst out laughing.

"PFFFFT!! BWAHAHAHA!"

"He's running from a SLIME?!"

All over the world, people were watching from their homes, some from their rooms, others in malls and stadiums, anywhere where there was a screen broadcasting this event for younger generation.

They all laughed at him and couldn't help but record the moment, already turning it into some kind of meme.

"Someone get that kid a diaper" Nolan laughed loudly as he lay on the floor with both hands clutching his stomach.

In another place covered in ice stood a peerless beauty known as the Frost Empress of the Northern Glaciers.

She covered her mouth to hide a giggle, while some of the beautiful women across the ice table burst into laughter one by one.

"Haha, this kid is afraid of a slime, a freaking slime" one woman laughed.

"Even a kid can kill it. Look at his face, he looks like he's about to die" another woman added while laughing.

...

Meanwhile, the Demon Lord of the Crimson Abyss laughed so hard he fell out of his throne.

Some of the demons who were watching the scene also made fun of Jeff, mocking how cowardly he was in front of a beast that is considered the lowest of the low.

Other humans, seeing how pathetic he looked on a global broadcast, felt ashamed. In all the years of the tournament, he was the first to act this cowardly.

And Paquito seeing this had a red face as he slowly dragged his palm across his face.

"You kid, didn't I tell you to use the talisman? Now look what you've done"

"Haha, your adopted son is very funny. It's better for him to be a comedian rather than an awakener" he laughed.

Even the old man sitting above had an unsightly expression, knowing they were losing face across the races.

"Turn off the camera for this child. If we keep broadcasting him, humanity's face will be lost" he commanded.

Hearing the Sage's words, Paquito's face turned livid with shame. His fists itched, wanting to beat up this adopted son of his.
