Chapter 1 - Survive the new world

Adam Levi existed in a perpetual state of grey. The vibrant colors of youth had drained away with the sudden, brutal loss of his parents. Now, at eighteen, the weight of an empty house and looming university debt pressed down on him, suffocating any lingering hope. He ate instant noodles, studied till his eyes burned, and worked a mind-numbing part-time job, all in a desperate attempt to keep his head above water. His life was a slow, agonizing crawl towards an uncertain future.

One particularly brutal evening, after a soul-crushing shift and a disastrous exam, Adam collapsed onto his bed. He'd been trying to learn about some new age spiritual theories, a desperate attempt to find meaning in the chaos. He'd found a strange, glowing symbol online, promising inner peace and untold potential.

In a moment of pure exhaustion and desperation, he'd traced it on a scrap of paper, mumbling the incantation he'd found alongside it. He didn't expect anything. He never did.

But the symbol pulsed. A searing white light erupted from the paper, engulfing his tiny room. Adam felt a dizzying lurch, as if the floor had dropped out from under him. The stale air of his room vanished, replaced by an intoxicating, earthy scent, thick with the aroma of damp soil and unknown blossoms. He hit the ground, hard, the breath knocked out of him.

A World Unveiled

He pushed himself up, his head throbbing. His apartment was gone. In its place was a landscape of breathtaking, terrifying beauty. Towering trees, their leaves a kaleidoscope of emerald and sapphire, stretched towards a sky painted in shades of violet and crimson. The air itself shimmered, alive with an almost palpable energy.

This was mana, he instinctively knew, the very essence of the fantastical worlds he'd only read about.

But the beauty was overshadowed by a primal fear. A low growl rumbled through the dense undergrowth, and Adam's blood ran cold. From the shadows emerged a creature of nightmare – a Gloomfang, a hulking beast with obsidian fur, glowing red eyes, and teeth like sharpened daggers. It was easily twice his size, radiating an aura of raw, untamed power.

Adam, still wearing his threadbare t-shirt and sweatpants, had no skills, no weapons, no knowledge of this perilous world. He was just Adam Levi, the suffering student, thrust into a nightmare. The Gloomfang stalked forward, its predatory gaze fixed on him. Adam's heart hammered against his ribs. He was going to die. Not in his sleep, not from exhaustion, but torn apart by a monster in a world he didn't even know existed.
