Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Of Sight and Distance

He woke to color.

A sun drifted over a lavender sky, its light glinting off fractured stone towers in the distance. Cool grass pressed against his back. The wind carried strange scents—metal, moss, and something almost sweet.

Kael blinked. Sat up.

No IV lines. No nausea. No pain.

His body felt new—light, strong, humming with quiet potential.

A soft chime rang in his mind, and a glowing screen appeared before his eyes:

Kael exhaled slowly, reading the words again and again.

Level 1. Weak by any standard—but he was alive. Whole.

And this world?

Completely unknown.

There were no maps. No one around. No instructions. Just stats, skills, and a silent promise of mystery.

He focused on a rock nearby and activated Minor Teleport.

It popped one foot to the right with a blink.

"Alright… that's something."

He tried again, visualizing the rock reshaped—flattened like a coin, stretched like a rod.

Nothing happened.

He frowned. "Not enough. I don't understand it yet."

He turned to Omni-Vision.

For a moment—just a moment—he saw the universe unravel.

Matter shifted. Vibrations danced. The tiniest particles glowed, moved, collided.

Then his brain caught up.

He doubled over, clutching his head.

He gasped and shut it off.

"Too much," he panted. "But it's real."

Magic tingled faintly in the air around him. Not locked away—free and wild. From what he could feel, anyone could touch it. But he had no one to teach him how to use it.

Skills, he realized, were the key.

They made all the difference.

And Kael had two.

Low rank. Weak. But… different.

He glanced at his Intelligence stat—50.

Whether that was high, low, or average, he didn't know—but it was definitely his highest stat. Probably from all the reading he did in his previous life.

Kael Renley had died once already.

This time, he wouldn't waste his life.

Not just for himself—but for the sister who stayed, the parents who sacrificed, and the dreams left unfinished.

He touched the ground, eyes narrowed.

"Alright," he whispered. "Let's learn what this world has to teach."
