BAM
ROAR
A Chitauri shrieked in pain as it was sent flying by Steve before it crashed into a pile of debris, an iron rod piercing its chest.
Steve didn't wait; he twisted his waist, delivering a round kick to a Chitauri's chin creeping up on his back.
CRACK
It froze in its steps, his face now facing backwards as it slowly went down on its knees, the light in its eyes already faded.
"Fuck! They're endless!" Clint cursed with gritted teeth through the transponder, his arms aching as he shot down everyone he could.
"Language!" Steve retorted, swinging his arm as he shot his shield off to the edge of his vision.
SLING
The shield flew with terrible speed, slicing a Chituari in half, who was trying to reach the civilians hiding behind a pile of cars.
Sensing the opportunity, the two remaining Chitauri ran towards Steve, now shieldless.
ROAR
The two roared, lunging at him with everything they've got. But before they could reach him,
BOOM
BOOM
The two were blasted off by a blue beam; their blood and guts spilled up everywhere, some on Steve.
"You know, you will be a really good preschool teacher," a female voice came from his back, standing beside the civilians.
The captain didn't retort as he turned back, staring at Natasha, who was holding a spear of those aliens.
He paused for a moment before giving a sigh of relief. "Cleared your area?" He asked.
"Yeah," Nat replied, her gaze turning to the hiding civilians, "we should get them out of here." She mumbled.
Steve nodded, agreeing with her. "Yeah, there is a military and police barricade around three blocks from us. We should drop them there and join—"
But before he could finish his sentence,
ROOAR
A series of loud shrieks accompanied by glass shattering echoed from his back. His expression hardened, and so did Nat's. He slowly turned around, while the civilians cowered in fear, their trembling hands clasped together, praying to their god to save them. But none were confident.
Tens, no! Hundreds of Chitauri jumped off a flying worm, their nails screeching against the concrete buildings, their bodies shattering the glass buildings.
Steve continued to stare at them, his eyes showing a little helplessness, while a renewed determination began taking root. He had to do it! He must do it!
And just then,
"Cap! There's something coming right towards you—"
Clint's desperate voice screamed in his ear, but it was cut off. And from then on, everything became silent. No one so much as squealed after it; they couldn't! They didn't dare to.
Even Hulk became silent. His constant roars of fury are now nothing but a silent wariness of this…predator.
RRRRRRROOOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRR
Steve's spine tingled; a flash of fear passed between his eyes. It was different, the roar. From Hulk's roars of fury or the roars of carnage from the aliens. It was…terrifying.
But then, Cap shook his head. He can't falter. There are civilians, and he must get them to safety. With rigid steps, Steve walked towards his shield, now lodged into a car's door.
Picking it up, he looked at the Chitauri army before him, only to be surprised. The Chitauri were shivering in fear as they grouped together. Their fearful gazes scanning the skies.
Cap frowned; something was not right. He looked up to the sky, the gaping hole above the Stark Tower now spewing out more aliens, perhaps due to that roar.
But those aliens weren't looking at the portal; they were looking somewhere else. Steve followed their gaze, squinting his eyes as he searched for the thing they were looking at.
And all he could see was a blue streak of light coming down towards them.
"Stark…?" Cap mumbled in a daze, wondering if it was Tony.
"T-That's not me…" Tony's voice responded from the transponder. His usual arrogance is nowhere to be seen.
"Sir, the energy readings I'm receiving… this is…" Even Jarvis was unable to comprehend the readings he was getting.
"I noticed," Tony replied with a frown, his eyes following the blue streak of light, trying to predict its trajectory when Jarvis' voice echoed in his helmet.
"Sir, the light's trajectory indicates it's aiming for the horde of monsters! At its speed, it will destroy the entire block, including the captain and Miss Natasha."
Sensing the urgency, Tiny quickly relayed the message over, "Cap, that thing's coming at you! It will level off the entire block! Take cover!"
Steve's eyes widened as his heart thumped against his chest; he turned around towards Nat and the civilians, who were staring into the sky at the blue light.
"TAKE COVE—"
But it was too late.
BOOOOM
The explosion that followed blew them off like a broken kite. Cap was blown away, throwing him into the air before he crashed into the very pile of rocks that civilians were hiding behind.
But Nat was worse, far worse. She crashed into a car's windshield. Its shattered glass pieces wedged themselves deep inside her stomach. Her legs each bent a different way, while her elbow bone protruded right out of her skin. Blood leaked out of her lips, while her eyes fought to stay open. She needed help, and she needed it fast.
Meanwhile, a thick cloud of smoke rose from the center of the explosion. All the Chitauri present were blasted out of existence; not a speck of blood remained.
Coughing up a mouthful of blood, Steve got back up on his feet. He wanted to check on the civilians. He wanted to check on Nat, but he couldn't. He didn't dare to tear away his trembling gaze from the thick cloud of smoke.
His shivering hand tightly clenched his shield; this fight was too much for him. Maybe Thor could take this, but he wasn't here.
He had to fight, even if it meant death.
Grunting in pain, Cap straightened his back. Tightly clenching his shield until his knuckles turned white, he waited. Waited for the dust to settle.
And soon, it did.
"Wha…?!" Cap's eyes widened as he stared at the 'blue streak of light.' His heartbeat quickened, now drumming against his chest, while his grip on his shield almost faltered.
That thing was nine feet tall. Each inch of its body was covered with rock-hard muscles, hiding underneath its pitch-black skin, which seemed to defy science itself.
Blue veins spread through its towering body, glowing brightly, while its face…its face was entirely made of its skull. Its eye sockets, hollow like voids, were glowing bright blue while steam blew out of his mouth.
Cap gulped, looking at this, fear clawing at his face as he took a step back. "W-What the fuck…?"
RRRRRRROOOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRR
