Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

What lies beyond life? Darkness. Everything surrounding me is just sheer darkness. Not even a single speck of light in sight. It's scary. I am scared. There's not even any sound, my thoughts feel loud. I can't see a thing. I can't hear anything. I can't even feel a breeze, or a bit of air. Am I breathing? I can't tell. If this afterlife, I regret asking for death. I would have been happier living in the pain.

The Ka'an's Residency, Apartment 468, Living room

Couches. A center table with nothing kept on it. Lights were out everywhere. Police tapes everywhere around the room. Nobody in the house, at least no one alive. A body lying dead on the floor. The only sound was of the news that was playing on the TV. Nothing else.

Nobody ever imagines being killed by their mother. Nobody imagines that their mother would kill all the police men that arrived at the scene with a knife and nothing more, and then flee, in denial of being accused of a murder. Schizophrenia does strange wonders. The body lied there, growing colder by every passing moment, covered with blood. Stabs at the heart at least three times, and dried tears that had been falling out from her eyes. A sad look. A dead heart. Pathetic.

TIME HAS STOPPED. 11:57:03 P.M., THURSDAY

There seems to be light. A tiny glow.

Amidst the darkness that stood so silently and vividly, a breeze flew past Yumi. There was light in darkness and darkness in light. A creature of darkness emerged from the shadows. Draped in dark clothing, skull head. Death itself. It smiled happily, looking almost delighted.

"I heard you've been looking for me." Death's mouth didn't move a bit, but the words could be heard across the two. Telepathy? Who knew and did it matter? No.

"I wanted Death. I wanted peace. What is this?"

"Well, I am Death, and this is peace. This is what you desired so graciously. Why are you sad?"

"I didn't expect it to be so... dark and lightless. And I didn't want you... like this- It doesn't matter. Can you brighten this place up, by any chance?"

"Why? I like it this way. Don't you?"

She looked at Death and Death looked at her straight back. Surrounded by sheer nothingness. Except that it wasn't nothing. It was darkness, and darkness is something. And they existed, so there wasn't not nothing. Something. But this something that surrounded them was so... dull and depressing. It felt like decay. And everlasting decay in darkness, a waste of whatever this passing time was, unless it wasn't time that passed. Even if time was stopped, time in a way still passed. Relativity. And it was still all so meaningless. Worthless.

"Is this all that you can offer me?" Yumi asked.

"Do you want more?"

"Maybe."

"How so?"

"I don't know."

"I haven't the slightest idea either."

Silence. Silence was permanent unless noise is created. Moments passed by, but time didn't. Not that it mattered at all. They had all the time in the world to figure out what to do.

"Do you want me to fulfill any wish that you may have?" Death asked.

"What can I ask for?"

"Anything." A devious grin. A promise which can never be trusted.

"Let me think. This is all a bit too fast, don't you think? I just died I think.. 2 hours ago?-"

"1 hour, 34 minutes, 17 seconds ago. Time has stopped for you."

"What? And what do you mean time has stopped?"

"Your time has stopped at 11:57:03 P.M. From then, it has been 1 hour, 34 minutes, 24 seconds."

"Wow, that's...precise."

"It's supposed to be. I'm supposed to be. I'm Death."

"Right... but I still need... time."

"I can't allow you that. You seem fun to toy with." A condescending laugh. A haunting one. It felt loud.

Uh oh. "What do you mean by that?"

A taunting cackle. "Because you're interesting."

 BOO!
