Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 — “The Weight of Truth”

The hospital's sterile air did little to calm the storm inside Fini's chest.

She stepped into the warm sunlight outside, the wind brushing against her cheeks like a whisper of freedom — but she didn't feel free. Not from the chaos, not from the men fighting over her, and definitely not from her own feelings.

Calvin was waiting by the car, eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses, jaw tight. He stepped forward instinctively, trying to take her bag.

"I can carry it myself," Fini said softly, but coldly.

"Fini, I—"

"Let's just go home," she cut him off, stepping past him.

The ride back was silent, thick with unspoken words. Calvin stole glances at her, but Fini's eyes were fixed on the passing streets, lost in thought. She didn't ask about Ezra. She didn't ask about the news. She didn't even ask about Liora — but she knew everything.

The kiss. The photo. The scandal.

And yet... she said nothing.

At the Mansion

"Fini!" Her father stood in the hallway, eyes blazing. "You didn't answer my calls!"

Fini stood still, weak but composed. "I was recovering."

"We need to talk. In private."

They sat in the drawing room. Her father wasted no time.

"I want a paternity test."

Fini blinked. "What?"

"I won't let this family name be dragged through mud. I need to know—exactly—whose child this is. Ezra or Calvin."

Before she could answer, Calvin entered the room, his voice firm.

"She doesn't need a test. The baby is mine."

Her father scoffed. "And how would you know that?"

"Because I was there. I was her husband. And I'm still her husband," Calvin said, stepping closer to Fini, "and I will protect her with everything I have."

Fini's throat tightened. She hated how her heart still ached at his words.

That Night

Ezra called. He sounded distant. Tired.

"I'm leaving the country, Fini. Maybe for good."

"What? Why?" she whispered, her hands trembling.

"Because I'm tired of waiting for something that's not mine. But if you want me, truly… tell me now. I'll stay."

Fini closed her eyes. Silence stretched between them.

"I can't," she whispered.

Ezra hung up.

The Letter

The next morning, a plain white envelope was slipped under her door.

> "If you don't leave both men, your baby won't make it to this world."

— Anonymous

Her blood froze. Her hands shook as she read it again and again. The words were clear — and dangerous.

She didn't show Calvin. Not yet.

---

The Press Conference

Liora's scandal had exploded online. The public was speculating everything — infidelity, love triangles, hidden pregnancies.

Calvin stood by Fini at the press conference, holding her hand for the first time in public.

A reporter asked, "Mr. Sahputra, are the rumors true? Are you leaving your wife for your ex?"

Calvin turned, his voice steady. "Fini is my wife. No rumor or scandal will change that. And for the record — I regret ever letting anyone else touch me but her."

Fini's heart skipped. But she had a secret too.

She leaned into the microphone.

"I will not be defined by men fighting over me. I am not weak. And to the one who sent me that letter — I am not afraid of you."

Gasps echoed through the room.

Calvin's eyes widened. "What letter?"

Fini looked at him, her voice shaking. "We'll talk. But not here."

---

Outside, as the press stormed around them, Calvin whispered, "You don't have to fight alone."

She looked at him, and for once — believed him.

But she also knew… the war had only begun.
