Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 — “Betrayal in the Shadows”

The mansion was silent without Fini's voice echoing through its halls. She hadn't spoken to anyone in seven days — not Calvin, not the maids, not even her own father.

She stayed in her room, curtains drawn, rejecting food, visitors, and warmth.

Even her phone remained unanswered, blinking endlessly with messages and calls.

She was tired.

Tired of pretending to be strong.

Tired of surviving every attack.

Tired of loving someone who kept breaking her.

---

Calvin's Investigation

But Calvin was not sitting still.

The letter. It haunted him.

He paid a private investigator. Dug into every trace, every fingerprint, every surveillance camera. And finally — a breakthrough.

"It was delivered by someone wearing a hoodie… but the CCTV showed them getting into a car."

The car was registered to a company owned by Liora's cousin.

Calvin's blood ran cold.

---

A Dangerous Game

That night, Calvin confronted Liora at her condo.

"Why did you send that letter?" he demanded.

Liora didn't flinch. Instead, she walked toward him, wine in hand, eyes gleaming with that twisted love.

"I didn't. But I might know who did," she said with a sly smile. "But you won't get it out of me… unless you want to stay."

He turned to leave — but Liora pulled him back.

"Do you ever get tired, Calvin? Of always being the good guy?"

Her words pierced deep. Calvin didn't answer. His hands dropped to his sides. He didn't leave.

She poured him another drink.

And another.

By the time the clock hit 3 a.m., his shirt was unbuttoned, and his head was heavy.

And then… she kissed him.

Again.

This time, he didn't stop her.

---

One Week of Sin

It didn't just happen once.

For a week, Calvin let himself fall — maybe out of guilt, maybe out of confusion, or maybe just to forget how broken he was.

Liora whispered sweet lies in his ear.

Promised him comfort.

Promised him power.

Promised him peace.

And he believed them.

He didn't return to the mansion. Not once.

---

Meanwhile, Fini…

Fini stared at the calendar. One week.

Her eyes were hollow. Her body felt heavy. Her heart? Numb.

Ezra was gone. Calvin was distant. Her baby… her only light.

But then came the worst part.

A photo. Slipped under her door again.

This time?

Calvin and Liora. In bed. His lips on hers. His hands gripping her waist.

The pain was worse than the first letter.

---

Fini clutched her stomach as her knees hit the floor.

"Enough," she whispered.

She wiped her tears, stood up, and packed her suitcase.

Not even the unborn child in her belly could keep her here now.
