"The taste of a demoness ain't bad..."
"The taste of a demoness ain't bad..."
"The taste of a demoness ain't bad..."
...
The words rang through my head, as if a warning from my psych, telling me to beware of a man with a beautiful moustache.
Indeed. It's painful.
"Argh…"
Harrowing pain rushed all throughout my body, telling me that I was badly fucked, wherever I was. I felt an inferno fill my mind as I slowly opened my eyes to look out.
"An unfamiliar ceiling…"
As I slowly gained consciousness, the pain that made me feel like I was on fire gradually calmed down into a lull, now feeling like a dull ache caused by a fever.
Rising up on my feet, I walked towards the only mirror present in the small room I was in. It was right besides the door that probably opened to outside.
Looking at my appearance, I noticed small patches of snake-like feathery scales slowly disappearing into nothing from my skin. As my skin became clear, I took in the features of the face I had. It was different.
Indeed, it was a different face, a different person. Not me. Not who I am, or I was. Not who I used to be.
The person in the mirror was a man of average height, around 5'9 or 5'10, and average face. He looked a lot more civilized because of a shaved face, but it was only a minor improvement to his overall looks.
Indeed, the man in the mirror was me. Now.
As I casually looked around the room, and the clothes I was wearing, memories slowly started streaming into my head, memories of the past, memories of the life that this person had.
Lorenzo. That was his name. He was the newest boatswain of Vice Admiral Ailment's Black Death. He was attempting to consume the Assassin potion obtained from contributing in the missions, and lost control. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the moment he lost control, he was replaced by this now present transmigrator.
"Am I the protagonist of this era?"
I couldn't help but lampoon Roselle, the last man who said this and then ended up getting corrupted by Mother Goddess of Depravity. Poor fellow. I hope when Klein becomes Lord of Mysteries, he might finally be free of the corruption and become Black Emperor.
"Ugh… why am I still acting like I'm talking about some novel characters. This is real now, I actually transmigrated into my favourite webnovel as an almost complete nobody!"
I had to try and remind myself that this was no longer a fiction, this was my reality.
On that note though… I have now been forced onto the Assassin pathway. Which means that if I were to advance, I will have to become a woman. And I don't even have the Ancient Sun God's cross to separate those beyonder characteristics from my self.
"Amazing! Fucking amazing!"
I couldn't help but curse in sarcasm.
Well, at least I'm a part of Tracy's crew. She's one of the sanest demonesses, and all in all, doesn't really go on many dangerous missions besides slave trafficking to the Loen Kingdom, which I knew now to be for George III's apotheosis ritual.
Just as I was thinking of all this, a loud *Ding* resounded in my head.
[Good afternoon host, because of your transmigration and drinking of the Assassin potion, the Assassin System has been initiated. The system's only and sole goal is to take you closer to godhood, so that it can survive the apocalypse with its host. Buckle up, and get ready, it's going to be a ride from now on.]
As the loud noise vanished from my mind, several lines of large font text appeared in front of my eyes.
Is this seriously some trash level fan fiction where the author has put in every popular trope just to attract as many readers as possible?
Shaking my head, I couldn't help but marvel at the uncaring and selfish connotations behind the system's words. What a piece of shit.
"So, what do you got? Any special powers you can give me? Any advantages you can give me over others in this word?"
For a moment, there was no response, and I almost felt like giving up on waiting for one, before new lines appeared in my sight again.
[The system is delighted to let the ungrateful host know that the whole reason the host is not pregnant, rotted, turned into pus and liquid from the knowledge of the cosmos is because of the system's continuous defence. So be more grateful. Besides that, you can see your status. And gain Assassin and Red Priest pathway charms the more assassin like things you do.]
Are all systems these days such rude ones? And did you really have to mention becoming pregnant part?
"Ugh… what a feisty little machine."
[Status]
I suddenly called out, hoping to see something that might be of use.
A moment later, a small screen flashed in my sight.
...
Name: Lorenzo [so homeless, you don't have a surname]
Pathway: Assassin (Demoness)
Sequence: 9, Assassin
Age: 21
Sex: Male (for now)
...
You really don't need to remind me that, you know, right? I know what being in this pathway means…
And this system was even outright lying. I... Lorenzo*, did in fact have a surname, and a family.
[Are you using one at present?]
"... No."
[Exactly!]
I grumbled frustratingly at the words of this clanker.
Before I could lose myself more into the thoughts, though, I heard knocks on the door of this cabin from the outside.
This is when I remembered that the captain had decreed the second third mate James to watch over me as I consumed the potion. If I showed any signs of losing control, I was to be dealt with immediately.
Considering that I was still alive, and there was no noise of a monster from inside here, it seemed like the Third Mate had gotten tired of waiting for so long.
In which case, I decided to do the normal thing, and opened the door.
Just as the door opened, the bright light of the afternoon sun filled the cabin, blinding me for several seconds.
Standing outside, in front of me, was the man who was the fourth-strongest person on this ship.
"Did you drink it?"
"Yes sir."
"Good, cogitate as you were taught, and gather your remnant spirituality. Half an hour later, go to captain's cabin. She'll brief you about your next mission."
"Got it, sir."
"Good."
The man flashed me a toothy side grin, and went on his way.
It as truly some small talk.
Doing as was instructed, I sat there and cogitated to gather my spread out remnant spirituality. Although it did leave me a little exhausted, I followed the orders, and headed to the captain's cabin from Lorenzo's memories.
It was time to meet the Ailment Maiden.
