Chapter 17 - Ch.17

The ghoul faction, Aogiri Tree, a subordinate organization of the fallen angels, was not having a good time.

They had believed that by aligning themselves with the fallen angels, the status of ghouls would improve, but their very first mission had gone wrong. The ghouls they had sent out last night were still missing. Scouts they had sent this morning reported that the coffee shop was open and operating as usual.

"What happened?" a white-haired man with a mask covering only the lower half of his face, Tatara, said with suspicion. "Even if the manager of that place fought them, we shouldn't have lost. The light spears are far sharper than kagune."

"Did they run into the devils?" a voice asked.

"It's not impossible, but if that's the case, things just got a lot more complicated," Tatara said.

The recruitment was supposed to be a secret operation, a preparation for the war that was to come. If their plans were exposed, the fallen angels, who looked down on them, would be the first to kill them.

"We don't need to be so pessimistic," Tatara said in a low voice. "If it were the devils, we would have already been discovered. Their tracking magic is more advanced than we think. For now, we will abandon this base and wait for further orders from the fallen angels."

During Lunch Break

The fact that Rias personally came out to invite Luo Guang caused quite a stir. Many boys and girls were heartbroken when they saw him accept the invitation and leave with her.

Eriri, meanwhile, was so upset that her fingers were turning white from clenching her pen. Why?

I was the first. I met him first, talked to him first, and even went out with him first. So why did it end up like this?

Luo Guang, of course, had no idea that his half-childhood friend, Eriri, was in the middle of a love triangle. He could also guess the reason Rias had personally invited him. It was undoubtedly about what had happened last night.

Inside the Occult Research Club, Rias had a serious expression on her face. "My familiar has already reported what happened at the coffee shop, but I still want to hear your opinion, Luo Guang-kun."

"Please have some tea, Luo Guang-kun," Akeno Himejima said, bringing over a freshly brewed cup.

"Thank you," Luo Guang replied.

"If you're asking for my opinion, the answer is that I don't know for sure. You're more familiar with those people than I am," Luo Guang said.

"I know. So I'll be direct with you. There have been traces of fallen angels secretly operating in this city. The fact that they've allied themselves with ghouls makes me suspect that something bad is going to happen," Rias sighed.

Luo Guang knew what she was talking about. In the original story, the fallen angels, led by Raynare, secretly targeted Issei Hyoudou, who possessed a Sacred Gear. They tricked him into a date and then killed him. They then brought Asia Argento, who possessed the Sacred Gear, Twilight Healing, to a church to perform a ritual to steal it.

Honestly, Luo Guang couldn't understand why Raynare and her group were so foolish. They could have performed the ritual anywhere, but they chose to do it right under Rias's nose. Even if they looked down on devils, Rias was still a high-ranking pure-blooded devil. There was a huge gap in power between her and a low-ranking fallen angel. He supposed that in every world, there had to be some unintelligent characters to keep the plot moving.

"So?" Luo Guang couldn't reveal the fallen angels' true intentions. He wasn't supposed to be a psychic.

"If something does happen, I hope you can lend a hand," Rias pleaded.

"I've already agreed to this. You don't have to say it again."

"This is different from a regular request. The fallen angels and us devils are enemies. This is a conflict between two races, and you are the only one I can turn to," Rias said sincerely.

Luo Guang was a bit surprised. He didn't expect Rias to be so rigid. This kind of small matter didn't require such a serious tone.

"Of course."

Rias smiled after Luo Guang agreed. "I'll make sure to compensate you separately."

Just then, footsteps could be heard outside the Occult Research Club. Then there was a knock on the door. Koneko opened it and saw several people in Kuoh Academy uniforms standing in the hallway.

But when Rias saw the person at the front, she frowned slightly. Why is she here?

"It's the Student Council President, Sona Sitri. Is there something you need from our Occult Research Club?" Akeno asked with a smile.

Sona Sitri was the student council president of Kuoh Academy. Like Rias, she was also a pure-blooded devil from the Underworld. She was the next head of the Sitri family and had an older sister who had also inherited the name of the Devil King Leviathan, one of the current Four Great Devil Kings of the Underworld. In addition, she was Rias's rival.

After all, competition was quite fierce in the Underworld. Although they often seemed at odds, they were actually good friends.

Luo Guang turned his head and met Sona's gaze.
