Maya was already loosing it, to her Adrian had just drew the battle line and she was going to make sure she wins the battle, if being poor was a crime then she will make being rich a crime too. "Come on Xavier, what are you doing, you are ruining my party just put the tray down or give it to Maya she should continue where her mum stopped right?" Ariana said trying to reason with Xavier, Maya watching the whole scene unfold just turned around and left running outside, Xavier quickly follows her." Wtf?"Adrian muttered as he ran his finger through his hair, then went upstairs.
Meanwhile Xavier drove Maya home. The ride was silent neither of them wanted to say anything, Maya was just busy thinking of what had happened today with her mum, sooner she reached home, without a word Maya quickly went inside.
Kate was inside the kitchen sobbing "mum... mum, stop it please stop crying" Maya begged as she could not stand seeing her mum in tears "what's going on, why did you never tell me they were bullying you?"kate questioned." I am so sorry mum, but don't worry I'll make them pay I swear" "I am so sorry, I should be able to give my daughter a better life" she said sobbing even more "no, no stop it ma, don't blame yourself" both mother and daughter cried their selves out that night.
The next morning Maya wakes up, feeling so tired "you don't have to go to school today honey" her mum says "no mum, I won't back down" she says as she threw her backpack over her shoulder, leaving the house. Maya got to school hoping to talk things out with Kelly as she never got the chance to, down the hall she sees Kelly who wouldn't even look at her, Maya sighed knowing Kelly was still upset, putting that aside she went to class, as soon as she stepped inside all necks bent over staring at her, with loud nasty comments, Maya was already getting used to this so she just ignored them going over to her seat, pulling out a textbook Maya flipped through the pages busy reading.
Just then she started hearing screams "geez" Maya said, she wondered which celebrity stepped in today as this girls are fond of screaming when a celebrity steps in, Maya didn't even bother to look this time, just then someone sat next to her "hey princess" he called out with a smile, she quickly turned to see Xavier next to her, not just him but Adrian was sitting right behind her, the look on his face was like he was about to put a bullet through her head, 'so this was why there were all screaming' she thought "you don't seem happy to see me" he said again "what are you guys doing here?" she asked with an eye roll "just wanted to see you, then that jerk followed me" he said casually.
Just then the teacher walked in "alright class, I have an announcement to make, the school yearly English competition is out and each class are participating, so from this class we need only two people, you all are going to be paired in two's whichever team has the best presentation gets to represent this class, and maybe the whole school"the teacher concluded as he brought out a jar filled with folded papers going over to each seat, everyone picked a paper "whatever alphabet you see on your paper, you have to look for anyone who has the same, making him or her your partner" he instructed.
Maya unwrapped her paper seeing the a bold M on her paper, she silently prayed she got a partner who wouldn't try to Kelly her "I got an A what did you get" Xavier asked from beside her "M" she replied, his face felled "I had hoped we got the same thing" he said, she just shrugged, working with Xavier would have been nice she thought "alright everyone, write down your alphabet here, I'll tell you your partner" the teacher instructed as soon as everyone was done the teacher proceeded to telling everyone their partner.
Maya just couldn't believe her ear when she heard who her partner was "excuse me sir, is it possible to change?" she asked "if your partner accepts" he replied, that was a relief at least she knew her partner hates her and would happily change her "am going to swap" she boldly siad to him "who would want to work with you?" he siad with his eyebrows cocked and a smirk that irritated Maya "you are stucked with me" Adrian Cole said, Maya couldn't believe it why on earth will he want to work with her.
"you all have to schedule a meeting time with your partners, so as to commence immediately" the teacher informed "well that means we will be meeting at my house" he said again "why can't you two just study in school" this time around Xavier butted in, he was very displeased when he saw Maya was paired with Adrian "do you need your boyfriend's permission?" he teased "what time?" Maya asked shocking both guys they hadn't expected her to accept "4pm everyday" he said "Maya what are you doing?" Xavier asked "not that it is your business Xavier" she replied coldly turning back to the teacher who was busy teaching.
Xavier was consumed with the thought of Maya spending time at Adrians house.
Only Maya knew the reason she had accepted easily to Adrian stupid suggestions, if she wanted to play this game right she had to make him think she is naive, meanwhile she is going to make sure to spend enough time in his house gathering whatever it is she can piece together to make Adrian regret messing with her. But right now Maya had to figure out how to reconcile with Kelly.
