The waves splashed against the shore. Zyra stood outside the mansion as flashbacks of memories she had in the house filled her mind. It was late in the night already. Victor walked up to her and stood beside her placing his arm across her shoulders.
The staff Victor had arranged came out to take their luggages. Genevieve and her minions rushed into the house to have a view of the place while Zyra and Victor walked in after.
As they walked into the living room, Zyra stood smiling at the space.
"Mr Veyron first handed me to you here. I was so pissed".
"I remember. You stared at me as if you were going to rip out my guts". They both laughed before continuing their tour round the house.
They stopped in the dining room.
"I met your father for the first time here".
"Really?".
"Yeah. I was having breakfast with Mr Veyron".
"And what was your first impression of my father?".
"A man who took family and friendships seriously".
"I guess you were right".
"I always am". She smirked and walked out with Victor.
They proceeded into the sword room.
"I learned swordsmanship here. Mr Yuri was the best swordsman Mr Veyron had. He carefully taught me until I became his best. Mr Veyron was impressed whenever I won my duets. Emily was a bit slow to learn and she gave up".
"You really are a strong woman". Victor never missed a chance to compliment his wife. She smiled and they proceeded with their tour.
She showed him other parts of the house. Like the armory, the gun range, the ward, the treasure room, and the safe. The flower garden she and Emily used to visit together once in a while. My Veyron's study, where she sat to read books. The home library, the inbuilt garage, the torture room, and the basement, where a lot of ruthless killing took place because of Mr Veyron, didn't want his daughters having trauma because of him, but unknown to him, Zyra witnessed her first kill 3 months after he took her in. She also showed him the greenhouse.
After the tour, the couple was a bit tired and went to the table to have dinner. By the time they got there, Genevieve and her minions were already at the table. Victor and Zyra joined them and everyone was busy enjoying their meal until Genevieve decided to speak.
She cleared her throat, and Zyra rolled her eyes. She already knew what was coming, and God, she couldn't stand this woman.
"Ok, so we're here now. Victor, can we at least know why we were dragged into this woman's past?". She spoke spitefully.
Victor breathed heavily before speaking.
"This woman is my wife Genevieve, and she has a name. You were given a choice to either walk into her past with us or go home. Why didn't you go home?".
"What do you mean, Victor? I came to see you, and I wasn't ready to leave yet. I'm sure she brought this up so that you would send us away. Well, we didn't fall for your silly games". She spoke, referring to Zyra, who was paying no attention to her.
"Genevieve. I have told you before that you do not have any business with my wife. Her name shouldn't even be found in your mouth. I orchestrated this move, and if you don't have anything worthwhile to say, please be quiet, let the rest of us enjoy our meal".
The words from Victor immediately shut her up. Everyone finished their dinner and went to their various rooms. After the couple had freshened up, they lay on the bed.
"Still as cozy as I remembered it". She spoke patting the bed. It was the room she slept in when she lived with Veyron.
"Everything is still the way I remembered it".
"I'm glad I didn't ask the crew to change things. I thought it would be better if they simply cleaned".
"You're the best".
The couple spoke for a while before they fell asleep in each other's arms.
The sound of the humming song was loudly calling out to her. Even if she didn't want to go it was too strong. She rose from the bed and followed the sound of the song. She stepped out of the house and walked to the riverbed. The wave was massive, it slapped against the shore violently. She continued walking towards the water until she walked in and was completely swallowed by the water.
She sank deeper and deeper, until she got to the bottom again. She was in the same spot. The sound of the song increased, and the voices varied. They were both male and female voices. A lot of them. She turned around to see if there was anyone, but there was no one. The sound of the voices got louder moving closer to her, making her feel uncomfortable as she turned in all directions.
"Welcome, you came. Welcome, you're hear. You came, you came, you came. Come with me, come, come on, come with me". The voice got louder, coming from all the different directions. She turned around, worried, and her heart palpitated.
"Zy, Zy, Zy". Her husband's voice echoed in her ears.
She jerked out of her sleep. Breathing loudly, she was sweating profusely. The liquid from her body had dampened her side of the sheet completely. It was as if the AC wasn't turned on in the room. Victor held her tightly to himself as she tried to steady her breath.
"Zyra what's wrong?".
"She's not the only one". She was breathing heavily as she spoke in whispers loud enough for Victor to hear.
"The siren?". He asked worriedly.
"Yeah. And they know I'm here".
"They do?".
"Yeah. The song called me. I walked to the water myself. I didn't see any of them, but I heard them, I heard them sing, and I heard her voice. She was welcoming me. She knows I'm here Vee". Zyra spoke still whispering.
"They are here. They'll kill you, run. They'll kill your family. Anyone they see in the house. They're here to wipe out". Her whispers spoke to her.
She suddenly pulled away from her husband. And got out of bed.
"Zy are you fine?". Victor asked confused.
"Shhhhh". She spoke, placing her index finger in the air as if placing it over his lips. While she walked on her toes.
"Where are they?".
"Look out the window". She communicated with the whisper in her head.
She looked out the window, spotting two guys in pure black. One had just snapped the neck of a guard, while the other was busy trying to crack the password to the house.
"Shit. We're being attacked". She spoke calmly as she walked back towards Victor, who had now gotten out of bed.
"What?". He peeked out the window and spotted both guys.
"Get everyone up. We need to get to the panic room immediately".
Victor and Zyra ran around the house carefully trying to get everyone up before the guys could break the code. They succeeded in getting Genevieve, Hazel, and Sofie, along with a few of the staff, to the basement but not into the panic room.
The two guys got in moving around the house like trained assassins. Victor and Zyra got into the armory. She took a short pistol and cracked it fixing in a silencer. Victor also took a pistol. The smile on Zyra's face as she looked at her husband showed that her dark side had forever been active.
They played hide and seek around the house, hiding behind pillars, chairs, and whatever they could use as a guide. The three staff members with the couple followed every one of their instructions, and with time, they got into the basement quietly.
Zyra put in the password to the panic room, and it was accepted. She was glad they never changed it after she left. It was a three-step verification. Her fingerprint and face ID were also needed after accepting all, the metal bulletproof door, which had a flush invisible panel lock, was slid open. The keypad was hidden back in the wall, having the same flush look. Everyone hurried in, but Zyra remained outside.
"Zy come on".
"Vee, I can't be in here hiding when I'm aware that people are vandalizing my house and I can do something about it. I want to find out who sent them.
"I'm coming with you". Victor stepped out".
"Are you sure".
"I'll fight all of your battles with you".
She stepped into the room, activating the monitors and picking out earphones from the drawer. She handed one to the housekeeper and one to Victor while she kept the last one for herself.
"Vincent, you have to be our eyes around the house, you'll take us in the direction to get to them. You can't make a mistake. We'll listen through the earphones". She gave the housekeeper orders.
"Yes, ma'am". He spoke confidently.
"As soon as we get out shut the door. Here's the password". She wrote down the numbers on a piece of paper and gave them to him.
As soon as they stepped out the door Vincent shut it behind them. They went back into the house, prepared for the worst. With Vincent's help, they found them in the lobby area.
"Seems like they already got information we were coming. This is a total waste of time, they're all gone".
"They can't all be gone. Madam won't send us here if it was that easy to get out".
"Alright then, find them. I'm tired, I want to rest".
Both men conversed before one of them went back searching each room. By the time he returned, he met his partner tied to a chair at gunpoint.
"Welcome aboard". Zyra spoke calmly, her hand steadily held the gun to his partner's head, and so did Victor's. His eyes darted as he stepped back slowly.
"Are you going to save your partner or…". Before Zyra finished speaking he turned to run. She quickly fired a shot at his leg, which had him bleeding, but he continued running anyway dragging his ingueed leg with one of his hand.
Victor wanted to go after him but Zyra stopped him.
"Let him go. I want him to take a message back to his boss".
Victor stood back and asked. "What do we do with this guy".
"Unmask him let's find out who he is first".
"Sure". Victor took off the mask from his face.
The expression on Zyra's face suddenly changed. Her brows knitted in surprise.
"Rufus???". She screamed in shock.
