Leo lay in bed, having been awake all night, watching as the darkness outside his window slowly gave way to the cold light of dawn. So much had happened, more excitement and mystery than he had experienced in his entire sixteen years of life.

And then there was what had happened in the bathroom.

When he had told his aunt about his superpower, she hadn't been disgusted or opposed to him using such a strange ability. On the contrary, she had been intrigued, helping him theorize about the trigger conditions and the potential of his "Parasite" ability. She had even wanted to help him conduct experiments.

The theory was too tempting. He remembered unconsciously raising his hand under the water, as if wanting to participate in the discussion, and he still didn't know if she had seen it through the shampoo foam.

He only remembered the last thing she had said to him.

"Leo, what kind of person do you want to be?"

"Don't rush to answer. When the time is right, I will give you the opportunity to choose. And no matter what you choose, I will support you."

He had thought about it all night, but he still couldn't figure out what she meant. What choice? What kind of support? He was afraid to even consider the most obvious possibility. His superpower could only be used with the help of a super-powered female. And the "help" required a series of rather… intimate trigger conditions. It was a passive skill. If he didn't have a suitable partner, it was useless.

So, the support his aunt was talking about… it couldn't be…

He remembered her idea that "the more the medium, the stronger the effect," and his body grew hot again. That was the real reason he hadn't slept all night.

Fortunately, his aunt had called the school and gotten him the day off, worried that his body might suffer some aftereffects from using his powers. Coincidentally, he learned that Nami had also taken the day off.

An image of the Spider-woman's face, half-revealed, flashed in his mind. He couldn't help but suggest to his aunt, "Nami has a cold. I think I'll go see her after lunch."

Diana, of course, knew of Leo's childhood friend. "Alright," she agreed. "Her house is close by, anyway." She looked around the messy living room. "I'll arrange for someone to come over later to repair the damage and bring in some new furniture."

"Won't that be a problem?" Leo asked, worried. The cracked floor, the massive potholes, the smashed furniture… it was obvious that this wasn't normal wear and tear. Anyone could connect it to the "robbery" that had happened across the street last night.

"It won't be," Diana said, her expression confident. She was dressed in a white shirt and trousers, looking every bit the intelligent, sophisticated woman. "I have my connections. I know who to call for this sort of thing."

"That's good," Leo said, relieved, though he was a little curious about what kind of "connections" his aunt had.

After lunch, he put on his winter coat and headed for Nami's house. He crossed the street and walked the hundred meters to the neighboring community. The security guard on duty recognized him and waved him through. "Hey, Leo. Haven't seen you around here in a while."

"Yeah, it's been a while," Leo shrugged. Captain Morgan had become increasingly wary of him in recent years, like a guard dog protecting his treasure. Leo had sometimes wondered if he had some kind of latent criminal gene that only the Captain could see.

He soon found himself at Nami's front door. As he reached for the doorbell, he felt a sudden pang of nervousness. Fortunately, it wasn't the Captain who answered the door. A gentle female voice called out, "Coming."

The door opened to reveal a middle-aged woman in her late thirties. She had some wrinkles around her eyes, but she had a good figure and looked very much like an older version of Nami. It was Nami's mother, Mary Jane.

"Leo, you're here!" Unlike her husband, Mary Jane was delighted to see him. "Come in, quickly. It's cold outside." She pulled him into the house.

"I heard Nami was sick, so I came to visit," Leo said, slipping on a pair of house slippers.

"Don't worry," Mary Jane said with a wink, seeming to know what he was looking for. "Nami's father went out last night and hasn't come back yet."

"Oh," Leo said, not knowing what else to say. Your husband, ma'am, is a very dangerous man.

"Nami came down with a fever this morning," Mary Jane continued. "I've already given her some medicine. She should be asleep now."

"In that case, I'll just go," Leo said, glancing at Nami's closed door. "I don't want to disturb her…"

"Don't be silly," Mary Jane interrupted, waving a hand. "You're here at the perfect time. Go on in and see her." She pushed him toward Nami's room. "And don't worry," she added with a meaningful smile. "The soundproofing in her room is very good. We won't hear a thing."

"Uh, I'm just here to visit," Leo said, the corner of his mouth twitching.

"Of course, of course. Just a visit. An in-depth visit. Just don't get yourself sick," she said, her suggestion very strong. She opened the door, pushed him inside, and then closed it behind him.

Is that really Nami's mother? Leo thought with a wry smile. Suddenly, Captain Morgan seemed relatively normal. He looked around the room. It was as clean and tidy as he had imagined, with a faint, pleasant fragrance. There were a lot of stuffed animals, and a lot of pictures on the bookshelf.

He noticed that many of the pictures were of him and Nami together, some that even he didn't have copies of. He couldn't help but stare for a moment before turning his attention to the bed.

The beautiful, golden-haired girl was lying quietly under a snow-white duvet, like a sleeping beauty. Her small, delicate mouth was slightly open, her breathing even, but her baby-soft cheeks were flushed with a slight fever.

He approached the bed and called her name in a low voice. "Nami? Nami?"

There was no response. She was fast asleep. He made sure his hands weren't too cold, then gently brushed her hair away from her forehead. A wave of heat radiated from her skin. She definitely had a fever.

He withdrew his hand. He had come to visit her, yes, but he also wanted to know if she was the Spider-woman he had met last night. It seemed he had been wrong. How could his sweet, gentle Nami be the acrobatic hero who swung through the city?

He shook his head. But as his gaze fell on her slightly parted lips, made even more rosy and soft by the fever, he froze.

A demonic thought crept into his mind.

Was I wrong? There's one way to find out for sure.
