Chapter 8 - Konohagakure Ninja Never Take the Usual Path

After finishing lunch, Kyle realized that Dumbledore hadn't arranged a dormitory for him.

Kyle turned to look at the luggage piled on the empty space beside the table and asked, "Professor, where's my dormitory?"

"I've already arranged your dormitory, you'll be with the Gryffindor students."

"Your name will be on the door, and you can follow the Gryffindor students to find the common room tonight."

Following Kyle's gaze, Dumbledore also saw the pile of luggage beside them: "As for your luggage, I'll have a house-elf take it to your dorm later."

"Thank you, Professor," Kyle pulled out two textbooks from the luggage, "I'll go to class first."

When the two of them came out of the kitchen, there were only about ten minutes left before the first class of the afternoon.

Dumbledore very considerately asked Kyle if he needed a guide.

However, Kyle felt he could manage on his own, so he declined Dumbledore's offer.

But after leaving the kitchen, Kyle instantly regretted his decision when faced with the intricate structure of Hogwarts Castle.

Hogwarts had a total of one hundred and forty-two staircases.

Some were wide and grand; others were narrow and small, and they wobbled.

Some led to different places every Friday.

Some had a step that would suddenly disappear halfway up, and you had to remember where to jump.

Besides, these staircases constantly changed position.

Sometimes, you think you're heading down the right corridor, but halfway there, the stairs dump you off in the left one.

Also, there are loads of doors here, and they won't open for you unless you ask politely or tap the right spot.

And then there are doors that aren't really doors at all, just solid walls disguised to look like them.

Without a guide, Kyle figured it would be a real challenge to get from here to the Charms classroom on the fourth floor in ten minutes.

Dumbledore beside him was smiling, waiting for him to ask for help.

But he'd already talked himself up, so how could he eat his words now?

So, Kyle decided to ditch the idea of taking the easy route.

Two minutes later, Kyle stood on the lawn outside the castle, sizing up the castle walls as if searching for something.

Dumbledore stood not far away, arms crossed, wanting to see what kind of amazing stunts Kyle would pull.

The next second, Dumbledore's eyes nearly popped out of his head.

Kyle charged towards the castle walls, and just before reaching them, he kicked off with both legs, leaping high into the air, and then began to run up the wall.

The vertical wall was like level ground to Kyle.

Dumbledore: ??? What magic is this? If Kyle could hear Dumbledore's thoughts, he would definitely say, "Basic operation, nothing to see here."

Attaching Chakra... that is, magical power, to the soles of his feet, allowing him to tightly adhere to a surface, thus climbing vertical trees or rock walls. This was something every ninja in Konohagakure could do.

Not to mention climbing walls, he could even do the advanced technique of walking on water.

When he'd first imagined his magic was Chakra, the first training Kyle did was, of course, climbing trees and walking on water.

In Kyle's opinion, there was nothing to brag about, really.

Soon, Kyle reached the fourth floor.

Clinging to the castle's outer wall, and after searching for a few windows, Kyle managed to spot Professor Flitwick, the Charms professor Dumbledore had mentioned.

Filius Flitwick had a distinctive appearance. Strictly speaking, Professor Flitwick wasn't a pure human wizard.

He had some Goblin blood, which was also the reason for his height… well, it was hard to describe.

Climbing directly through the window into the classroom didn't seem like a good idea. Kyle didn't want to be the center of attention on his first day at Hogwarts, so he abandoned that thought.

After climbing a short distance to the side, Kyle jumped into an empty corridor and quickly found the door to the Charms classroom.

The clear sound of the school bell rang, and Kyle rushed into the classroom, collapsing into an empty seat at the back.

Professor Flitwick stood atop a stack of books – this way, the lectern wouldn't block him – cleared his throat, and smiled at the young wizards and witches. "Today, we will be learning the Cutting Charm."

Professor Flitwick had noticed the son of Grindelwald as Kyle ran into the classroom. However, he didn't change his lesson plan because of Kyle's presence and continued with the Cutting Charm lesson as planned.

Kyle quickly flipped through the Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1, which he had bought that morning, to the correct page.

Professor Flitwick waved his wand, and a pile of small wooden sticks that had been placed on the lectern floated up. They flew precisely to the desks in front of each student, including Kyle.

"I will demonstrate for you. Pay attention to the incantation and the wand movement."

Professor Flitwick recited the Cutting Charm incantation, then flicked his wrist lightly, and the wooden stick in front of him snapped in two.

After explaining some precautions and common mistakes for beginners, Professor Flitwick announced that everyone could now practice freely.

Kyle: …

That's it?

What's the principle behind the Cutting Charm? How does magic work during the cutting process? How do you control the point of impact when cutting?

Nothing? Just like that, it's over?

Kyle, with a mix of doubt and curiosity, imitated Professor Flitwick's movements, recited the spell precisely, and waved his wand. Then…

The wooden stick in front of him was completely unaffected.

After trying several times without success, Kyle felt like a fluffy baboon waving a stick.

At this moment, the black-haired girl beside Kyle suddenly turned her head, "Hello, I'm Cho Chang."

Kyle was taken aback. Judging by her appearance, she seemed to be of Asian descent, most likely Chinese-American.

That meant her name should be pronounced Cho Chang.

Kyle hadn't expected to run into someone from his homeland here.

Even though his current body was that of a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Anglo-Saxon, his heart was... well, let's just say it belonged to his homeland.

Suddenly, he had a bold idea.

"Chinese?"

Cho Chang nodded. "More accurately, Chinese-American."

"Do you know Chinese Kung Fu? Like Bruce Lee?" Kyle threw a few punches into the air.

Kyle was practically grinning from ear to ear inside.

In his previous life, whenever he met foreigners, the first question they asked him after finding out he was Chinese was whether he knew Chinese kung fu.

He never expected that in this life, he'd be the one asking others if they knew Chinese kung fu.

Several black lines appeared on Cho Chang's forehead; she felt slightly offended.

After denying that she knew any kung fu, Cho Chang finally asked the question she'd been wanting to:

"What's your relationship with Professor Dumbledore? I saw you with him in the Great Hall this morning, and you seemed quite close."

Uh… this question…

Kyle also wanted to know what his relationship with Professor Dumbledore was.

By seniority, should he call Dumbledore "uncle" or "older uncle"?

Were most of the professors at Hogwarts his juniors?

He should just tell her his last name and let her figure it out.

So, Kyle extended his hand towards Cho Chang, "I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Kyle Dumbledore."

Cho Chang let out a surprised gasp.

"Dumbledore!" On Cho Chang's other side, a girl with reddish-gold curly hair also turned her head. "Is it the Professor Dumbledore's Dumbledore!?"

Well, he should have expected them to react like this.

"Hello, I'm Marietta Edgecombe, from Ravenclaw." The other girl extended her hand generously.

Kyle wanted to shake hands with her, but just then, a cough sounded beside their table.
