Chapter 9 - The Happy Wind Man of Hogwarts

Cho Chang and Marietta Edgecombe, as Ravenclaw students, found it extremely embarrassing to be caught slacking off in class by their own Head of House.

The two of them immediately turned back around, pretending to be diligent and studious students, and began practicing the Cutting Charm on their wands.

Kyle, on the other hand, showed no embarrassment whatsoever and openly asked Professor Flitwick about the principle behind the Cutting Charm.

"Professor, I don't quite understand. Why is it that simply reciting the spell and waving the wand can release the Cutting Charm?"

As he said this, Kyle glanced at the wooden wand in Cho Chang's hand, which was already split in two.

However, the wooden wand in Kyle's hand was still in the same condition as when he received it.

Before Professor Flitwick could respond, Kyle quickly added:

"The Cutting Charm, understood literally, is to split an object. From a physical standpoint, the Cutting Charm is like using a sharp object, such as a knife, to cut it open."

Professor Filius Flitwick listened with a smile.

"But when I saw you and Cho Chang cast the Cutting Charm, I didn't feel anything like a knife splitting things apart. So, it should be splitting from the inside."

Professor Flitwick's smile broadened.

"So, the real principle of the Cutting Charm should be to make magic work on the molecules of the wand, causing the attraction between the molecules to fail or exceed their effective range, so they can't combine, thus achieving the effect of cutting?"

Professor Flitwick's smile became stiff.

"How should I control my magic to achieve such an effect?"

Professor Flitwick: ???

What the heck is this kid asking?

He understood every single word Kyle said, every letter even. But put them together, and he had no idea what Kyle was talking about.

A basic spell like the Cutting Charm, and you need to consider so much?

Isn't it just a matter of waving your wand and bam, cutting things?

Professor Flitwick was a Charms Master, no doubt about it, but his research on spells didn't involve analyzing them from the perspective of Muggle physics.

But, considering the dignity of a professor, he couldn't just be stumped by Kyle.

Professor Flitwick put on a serious face, which, to Kyle, looked like he was thinking, organizing his thoughts.

After a bit of a struggle, Professor Flitwick decided to give up.

He forced a dry smile, "That's the power of magic. You just need to input your intention into your wand and command it to cast the spell."

Kyle stared at Professor Flitwick, "Are you serious?"

Professor Flitwick stared back at Kyle. What's with that look he's giving me? Is he doubting my skills as a Charms Master?

A crow flew past the window, cawing twice, creating an awkward atmosphere between them.

Several black lines appeared on Kyle's forehead. This magic is too reliant on the mind, isn't it?

Even when he used Water Style Ninjutsu, there was a process he could follow. The Chakra in his body transformed into water elements, which then shaped into the form of a shark. That was what was called Great Shark Bullet, or rather, Great Spitting.

He wasn't sure if this process followed the laws of conservation of energy and other physics principles, but at least there was a process.

But this Cutting Charm... it was hard to describe.

Kyle struggled to find the right words. Finally, he asked the key question, "So, Professor, is the essence of magic wish fulfillment?"

Professor Flitwick widened his eyes in surprise. "Ah, yes, you've summarized it perfectly."

Then if that was the case...

Kyle picked up his wand again and aimed it at the wooden stick on the table in front of him, slowly channeling his magic into it.

At the same time, he conveyed a very strong intention to his wand – to cut it!

Kyle felt the magic in his body surge wildly into the wand, as if it wanted to drain him completely, but this drain quickly stopped.

A dazzling beam of light burst from the tip of Kyle's wand, hitting the wooden stick and continuing on to the wooden table beneath it.

The dazzling red light enveloped the entire table.

Clang!

It was the loud sound of the table, split in two, crashing to the floor. Thud...

This time, it was the sound of books falling.

Kyle stared blankly at the desk in front of him. What had just happened?

Coming back to his senses, Kyle fumbled to right the desk and quietly asked Professor Flitwick, "Professor, did my Cutting Charm work?"

Work?

It was more than just working; this Cutting Charm was practically on par with Severus Snape's Sectumsempra.

Professor Flitwick wiped a nonexistent sweat from his brow. "I believe you may not have controlled your magical output properly. Don't be discouraged, let's try again. Reparo!"

The desk Kyle had been supporting reassembled itself, perfectly restored by the Reparo spell, showing no sign of the previous split.

Kyle couldn't help but marvel at the wonder of magic.

After another summoning of a wooden wand, and with Professor Flitwick's encouragement, Kyle began his second casting attempt.

Kyle thought about the mistakes he had made during the previous spell.

He had just cast a spell, and after conveying his intention to the wand, he felt the magic in his body automatically mobilize, just like the feeling he had earlier that day in the wand shop.

Judging from the reaction of that professional wandmaker, Ollivander, his magic seemed to be much larger than others?

In other words, others had Chakra, and he had Chaka-kilograms or Chaka-tons.

So, the power of his spells was many times greater than others?

If that was the case, when he cast spells, he would have to restrain the magic in his body a little, lest it all pour out uncontrollably.

Otherwise, with the Cutting Charm he had just used, he could probably wipe out the entire school.

Having figured out the problem, Kyle tried the Cutting Charm again.

After three or four practices, he was finally able to control the power of his Cutting Charm to the same level as a normal wizard.

Professor Flitwick nodded in satisfaction.

Without having learned any spellcasting gestures or incantation techniques, he was able to cast the Cutting Charm within a class period the first time he encountered it.

That's a terrifying talent.

After mastering the Cutting Charm, Kyle began to ponder what Professor Flitwick had just said.

Since the essence of magic is wish fulfillment, if he were to define the manifestation of the Cutting Charm in another way when transmitting his intention to the wand, would it be possible for the Cutting Charm to present a different effect?

An idea exploded in his mind like a thunderclap.

Kyle switched from holding his wand with one hand to holding it with two. With the infusion of magic and the transmission of his intention, an invisible blade of magical energy extended from the tip of the wand.

Death is like the wind! Always by my side! The long road ahead! Only the sword as my companion!

He grabbed a wooden stick in front of him and tossed it upwards, closing his eyes and carefully feeling the flow of the wind as the stick fell.

At this moment! Kyle was as if possessed by the Happy Wind Man!

At this moment! He was the Happy Wind Man of Hogwarts!

When the wooden stick, in free fall, plummeted towards him, he moved!

"Face the wind!"

"Draw blade! Slash! Sheathe!"

"Hasa- give!"

The wooden stick, falling through the air, was instantly bisected by the flash of a blade, falling limply onto the table in front of him.

Thud...

Professor Filius Flitwick looked at the smooth, clean cut of the wooden stick, then at the invisible blade at the tip of Kyle's wand, and his face twitched.

Was this the Cutting Charm???

Was this the Cutting Charm!!!

Snape's Sectumsempra wasn't even this outrageous!
