The door pushed open and Lucas came running in. His face dripping with sweat, and his shirt stained with blood.
Clara was seated on the sofa, looking all dressed up, her legs crossed against the other, Her lips glistened with a sparkling lip balm that added a touch of glamour to her overall look.
The moment Clara saw Lucas, her expression changed, glaring at him disgustingly.
"What is the meaning of this? Why are you looking all sweaty and blood-stained on your shirt, and most of all, why are you breathing like you ran a marathon?"
"It's your daughter; she had an accident, and the hospital is requesting a deposit of five thousand dollars before they can begin the surgery on her. Please, I need five thousand from you; help me," Lucas begged, his heart racing with panic.
Clara let out a burst of laughter. "Is this another part of your scheme to extract money from me, you fool?"
Over the years, Lucas had been married to Clara, and they had a daughter. He worked a part-time job at a delivery company, and at least he was able to provide the few things his family needed to survive. As life continued to unfold, Clara's career took a significant turn, and she suddenly became very wealthy, owning multiple companies throughout the city.
Clara became so invested in her job that she cared less about her family. Spending lavishly, going on a vacation spree with her friends, and numerous other things.
Amanda, their daughter, was about fourteen years old. Although she never liked her mother due to her behaviour and the way she interacts with men. She even caught Clara, her mom, having an affair with one of her workers while at work.
Though she told Lucas, and because Lucas wanted no troubles from Clara, he urged Amanda to forget about it, because they live under the mercy of Clara.
Clara was so heartless that she wouldn't mind chasing them out of the house if they tried to object to her lifestyle.
Lucas' heart tightened as he heard the laughter from Clara's mouth. "Clara, why would I do something like that? How are you even thinking? Please, this is serious; you have to give me the five thousand so I can go back to the hospital where your daughter's life is at risk as I speak."
Clara stood abruptly and landed a slap on Lucas's face.
SMACK!
"Are you stupid? How dare you talk to me in such a manner? Did you think I'm a fool who will fall for your lies and lend you five thousand just like that? I know you needed that money desperately to use it for gambling; that's why you rub paint all over your body and try to fake everything just to extract from me. I'm very sure you and that daughter of yours planned this."
Lucas held his cheek, the disbelief flushing into his spine like cold air. Even at a time like this, Clara still sees him as a liar. Even when their daughter's life was at stake.
"Clara, I swear, Amanda had an accident. It happened when we went out to get some ice cream, and a truck ran into her."
"Ice cream you say?" Clara chuckled. "So you wanted to act like the loving father, huh? And don't think I will believe that story of yours again."
A few weeks back, Lucas asked Clara for some small amounts of money, with the deal that he would pay her once he got paid from his delivery job.
Lucas needed the money to buy a necklace for Amanda as a surprise gift, but the amount was too small, so he got tempted and went to use the money to gamble so he could have enough for the amount he needed to purchase the necklace. And while doing this, Clara caught him, and ever since, she had seen him as a chronic gambler.
Clara shoved her hair to the side. "Get lost from here, you wretched fool, and once I'm back from this vacation, I'm going to divorce you."
After saying this, she orders the butler to carry her bags to the car.
She then turned to walk past the door, but Lucas's hands caught hers. "Please, Clara, you have to believe me. I won't use something like this to lie to extract money from you. Even if you would rather not give me the five thousand dollars for free, then give it to me with a condition, and I swear I will do anything you ask for, even if it's kissing your feet and worshipping them. Please, Clara, our daughter's life is at risk; she might die."
"Get your filthy hands off me, you liar." Clara yanks her hands out of Lucas's grip. "If you ever use those hands to hold me again, I swear I will make sure you sleep in jail."
After spilling these words, Clara walked out the door, got into her Lamborghini, and rode away.
Lucas fell to his knees, tears streaming down his cheek, hatred piling inside of him. He has no one to call to lend him such an amount of money. Not that Clara doesn't have the money to give to Lucas, but she chose not to.
"Five thousand dollars is something less for her to give. Even her shoes are worth more than that, yet in a condition like this, she decided not to believe me."
Lucas gritted his teeth as he spoke to himself. His fist clenched in betrayal and intense hatred for Sophia. And just then, his phone buzzed, and his screen flickered to light, with a text message displayed on the screen.
