Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 — The Beginning

The human world had reached an era of modernity. Life was orderly, peaceful, and predictable.

No wars. No disasters. No chaos.

Yet… all of that tranquility was shattered in a single night.

It was the year 2355. An event unlike any before would shake humanity to its core.

That night appeared ordinary.

City lights glittered. People went about their routines as if nothing unusual would happen.

Until, exactly at 8:00 PM—

A streak of light tore across the sky.

Fast. Too fast to comprehend.

And yet… everyone felt it.

People froze, exchanging bewildered glances.

Some thought it was a trick of the eye, an illusion. Others tried to ignore it.

Then, without warning—

The night sky exploded.

Lights burst like fireworks, painting the darkness with an ethereal glow.

No celebration. No festival. Only silence… slowly replaced by unease.

From the brilliance, small spheres appeared.

They hovered, glowing softly, drifting toward the people below.

Curiosity overcame caution.

When someone dared to touch one—

The sphere merged with their body instantly.

In an instant, they began to glow.

Light engulfed them, dazzling their eyes, before fading gradually into nothing.

Confusion only deepened.

Panicked voices rose across the city.

No one could make sense of what had just happened.

And then, as chaos peaked—

Something else appeared.

A tear in space.

A crackling sound like sparks.

And then… portals opened.

Strange, pulsating gates appeared at multiple locations, spinning as if alive.

Some approached cautiously.

Curiosity quickly turned to terror.

From the portals emerged… creatures unlike any human had ever seen.

Monsters.

They attacked without warning.

Screams filled the air.

Humans ran, hid, and struggled to survive against an enemy they could not even comprehend.

Amid the chaos—

A small child was separated from his parents.

His name: Yuta Kojiro.

Panting, legs trembling, he ran aimlessly.

Behind him, a pack of goblins pursued, growling savagely.

He stumbled.

Fell to the ground.

Fear gripped him completely.

"…help…"

His voice was barely audible.

The goblins closed in.

But—

BRRAAK!!

A vehicle crashed through them.

A fire truck.

Its doors slammed open, and a man leapt out.

Ken Takeru.

Without hesitation, he swung a hose and sprayed high-pressure water at the goblins.

Some were thrown aside, lifeless.

But soon—

The water ran out.

Ken gritted his teeth.

He ran forward, standing between Yuta and the remaining goblins, shielding the boy with his own body.

The last of the goblins lunged.

Reflexively—

Ken struck.

BUUK!!

The creature flew back, motionless.

Dead.

Ken froze.

Staring at his own hands in shock.

"…what?"

His heart pounded.

"Power… what is this…?"

This was not human.

Not normal.

But there was no time to ponder.

Confusion still clouding his mind, Ken fought on.

One by one, the remaining goblins fell.

Finally… silence.

He exhaled heavily, muscles tense.

Turning back, he saw Yuta still trembling—but alive.

Ken knelt, calming the child, and carried him away from the battlefield.

But the war was far from over.

Across the world, the same chaos unfolded.

The peace of humanity…

destroyed in a single night.

And behind it all—

Something watched.

Silent.

Waiting.
