Kai's POV
The breakfast the next day was quiet like the usual, but the atmosphere was heavy and dark. Kei was sitting in front of me, barely touching her food. Her eyes were lifeless and swollen. Her presence was weak. Contrary to her expression, dad's eyes were dark and cold. His jaws were tight and the aura surrounding him was scarier than hell itself.
I couldn't breathe. I was trapped in a complicated situation, and I don't know how to escape this.
"I'm done," Kei said lifelessly before she pulled herself up and walked out of the kitchen.
The silence stretched longer. No one stopped her. No one spoke. Even the maids could feel the tension.
"Kai…" Dad's tone sounded terrifying, not because it was dangerous, but because it means danger. "Do everything to make Zane Blackwood pay."
My grip on the utensils tightened. I was right.
I lifted my face and looked at him. "Father, it's probably just a misunderstanding. Let Kei handle this."
