Chapter 1 - New World

...

[Wake Up, Wedge of Heaven!]

He awoke with a throbbing headache threatening to split his head open, sweating and struggling against the bindings that kept him restrained to a bed.

It took a second more for him to realise that his writhing was futile, the restraints placed upon him being too tight and well secured.

Coming to his senses that he might be in serious trouble, he opened his eyes blearily, blinking away the sleepiness to take note of his surroundings.

He was lying on a white bed, with white sheets in a room with white walls.

'I became retarded and got sent to an asylum?'

A weary smile overcame his lips at his own thoughts.

Forgoing the thought as the seriousness of the situation started to set in, he craned his neck towards the side with some effort and blew at the... golden lock of hair that had obstructed his field of view with irritation. As his vision zeroed in, to his surprise, he was greeted with the view of arguably, the most beautiful woman he had ever laid his eyes on.

Short black hair, a sharp but delicate face with two electric blue eyes, she was without a doubt, otherworldly in her beauty. The only thing taking away from her good looks was the pale almost dead-like pallor of her skin, which, honestly, in his perspective made her even more appealing.

He flashed her his best smile, mustering every bit of charm that he could into it.

"Lady, I am underage. But as they say nowadays, age is just a number, so I don't really mind."

The unidentified woman—he had an inkling as to who she was—stared at him unblinking, her face unreadable.

'Maybe I misjudged and she actually wants me for my organs.'

Relief proceeded to flood his veins as she laughed, instead of moving to harvest his precious kidneys and got up to undo his bindings with a begrudging smirk.

Muttering a quick thanks as the restraints around his wrists were released with the woman continuing her work by leaning over him to remove the chains wrapped on the opposing side of his chest, flooding his view with... a tantalizing view of her... heavyset chest, begging to be freed from her tight tank top.

'How fucked would I be if I gave into my intrusive thoughts?'

Before his thoughts could take a dangerous turn, the woman freed the restraint and leaned back—much to his disappointment—and as she continued to work on the other chains, he finally lifted up his freed torso to sit up straight with a grunt of exertion. Just how long had this body been immobile for?

He started stretching his muscles to bring back some life into his limbs, just in time for the lady to finally free him completely and step back.

"I take it that you enjoyed your stay in the Nightmare?"

The woman—who he was pretty sure was Master Jet from Shadow Slave—said, a light smirk resting on her full lips.

"Uh.. yeah it was easier than I expected. I am just built different."

He was bullshiting.

'I don't remember a thing.'

He jumped off the bed, momentarily losing his balance and would have fallen face first had Jet not held his shoulders and helped him stand up straight. He flashed her a grateful smile as she looked at him with amusement.

'Just how long was this body knocked out for?'

Master Jet proceeded to stretch, a weary sigh escaping her lips as she spoke:

"It is good to see that you're finally awake Sleeper Gilgamesh, I'm Ascended Jet, you may call me Master Jet."

Gilgamesh huh... So that was his new name. Not bad, not bad at all. But who in their right mind names their child Gilgamesh?!

"I'd recommend that you take a bath, you reek of Nightmare. Meet me at the cafeteria at 5:30, don't be late."

Gilgamesh nodded his head, waving her goodbye she left the room with a wave of her own. He was starting to realise just how fucked up the world he had found himself in was going to get.

'God dayum she has a nice ass too.'

...

Gilgamesh was currently staring at the mirror after having taken a rather relaxing bath, he had definitely missed taking a bath with hot water.

A person, whose face he didn't recognise gazed back into his own eyes from the mirror.

Straight golden hair falling till his eyes from the front, red eyes, a sharp, angular and undoubtedly handsome almost kingly face.

'I look like an exact replica of Gilgamesh from the fate series.'

He thought, raising his hand to pull his own cheek and wincing after he stretched it too hard.

Yup, it was definitely not a dream.

Going through memories of his predecessor—now his—he took note of the important details.

His father was an Ascended while his mother was an Awakened. Both of them had worked for the Government and later died while protecting civilians from a category 3 gate that had opened without a notice.

They had left enough money for the original Gilgamesh to live peacefully, until he had gotten infected by the Nightmare Spell just a year later, when he was just fourteen years of age, quite young.

Which was quite unusual, considering most people got it in their late teens.

Gilgamesh had trouble recalling anything after that. He had basically no memory of what had happened in the previous Gilgamesh's First Nightmare.

Perhaps his predecessor had died in the First Nightmare and he was thrust into his body while it was without a soul? That didn't explain how the First Nightmare was completed and why he didn't have any memories of it.

Anyhow, Gilgamesh wasn't going to waste the opportunity he had been gifted whining about the unfairness of it all, he was selected to complete an nigh impossible mission afterall.

Before his mood could be soured by the events that took place in his original world he distracted himself with a different topic.

"How does this Rune thing work? Do I have to just think about it?" Gilgamesh wondered out loud.

Taking a moment to concentrate, he willed his Runes to appear.

Blinking at the screen that appeared in front of him, he was shocked at what he saw.

Gilgamesh stood there for a minute, processing the Runes in front of him with a growing grin.

Oh this was good, very good.

He had so many things to say about the Runes but didn't know where to even begin.

'No way my predecessor formed his second Soul Core in just the First Nightmare.'

Gilgamesh thought incredulously.

'Was this guy some sort of Prince or King in the Nightmare?'

Going through his memories he was pretty sure that the previous Gilgamesh was nothing special, at least not special enough for all this.

'I'll deal with this bullshit later, It's almost 5:30 anyways, it would not be good to disappoint Jet on our first date.'

Reluctantly tearing his eyes away from the Runes, he willed them to disappear before taking a final look at himself in the mirror.

'I sure as hell look handsome.' He thought with an arrogant grin.

Throwing one last appreciating glance at the mirror, Gilgamesh started to walk out of the room, briefly pausing to realise that Mordret was still locked up. Gotta make sure he keeps his ass inside that temple this time around.

"Ain't no way Mordret's gonna escape. Not on my watch."

...

Gilgamesh found himself seated beside Sunny with Master Jet sitting in front of them.

Glancing at Sunless beside him, he was surprised that he was even shorter than he had expected.

Gilgamesh suppressed the sudden urge to tease Sunny and focused his attention back on eating this 'food'.

Shoveling down the dirty gruel that was definitely not food while wearing these cheap clothes that were meant for beggars, made him feel the need to make his opinion known.

"This food, it's disgusting. It's not meant for someone like me." He said haughtily, pushing the spoon and plate away.

Gilgamesh had uttered those words before he could even think.

This was unlike him. Even if the food was disgusting, he would have eaten it without complaining, it was difficult to come across food after everything that had happened in his previous world after everything that had happened afterall.

'This Flaw, it's gonna be more of a pain in the ass than I first thought.'

Before he could consider the ramifications of this, Jet's voice broke out, "Most people wouldn't be complaining about the food just after coming out of their Nightmare," She said, watching his antics with a smirk, as if he was a particularly entertaining monkey.

Once again before he could control himself, his mouth started moving.

"Don't compare me with those mongrels," Gilgamesh laughed while leaning back with a confident smirk.

'What the fuck did I just say.'

Gilgamesh prayed that his lips would remain sealed.

"What am I seeing right now." He heard Sunny mutter under his breath before going back to anhililating his meal.

Jet looked at him with an appraising eye and threw him a smirk.

"Perhaps you suffered more damage from your Nightmare than I first assumed."

Gilgamesh looked away while massaging his forehead, hoping that his flaw would not embarrass him again. It worked and no word escaped his mouth. Or not-

"How about we go on a date and I'll show you just how damaged I am."

He unwillingly winked at her. Jet looked at him with a curious look in her eyes. Her face unreadable, before she started chuckling.

"You have got guts kid that's for sure. You may have had a chance if you were at least ten years older."

'Creepy ah cougar. I'm fifteen lady!'

Gilgamesh still thanked his lucky stars that he wasn't launched across the room.

'On a serious note though, was it because of my [Golden Rule] attribute? I thought it only applied to treasures? Then again, I barely know anything about the Nasuverse.'

Putting her elbows on the table while steepling her fingers and adopting a serious look Master Jet glanced at both of them, "Now that both of you are done eating," She looked at Gilgamesh pointedly, "I'll begin,"

"As per protocol, I am obligated to inform both of you a few things. It is mostly a formality. First of all, concerning the Nightmare..." Jet said looking at both of them.

"You are entitled to receive free psychological counseling. No matter what traumatic experience you have encountered, there is no shame in asking for help. Your mind is as important as your body - it's only right to keep it healthy. Are you interested?" She waited for their reply.

Immediately snorting at that question, he replied with a firm no.

After a few moments of contemplation, Sunless too, refused.

Looking at them evaluatingly, Master Jet continued, "As you wish. You two can also talk to me about it. Was it very hard?"

This time, he didn't reply. Waiting for Sunny to respond and taking his sweet time to think of an answer that wouldn't get him in trouble in the future.

The black haired boy, himself was looking unsure, seeing that Gilgamesh was not going to respond anytime soon Sunny finally said, "It was simultaneously much worse than I expected and exactly as bad as I expected."

She nodded, satisfied with that explanation and turned her attention towards him.

"It was easy, for me."

Folding his arms he leaned back on the chair relaxedly.

Jet raised an eyebrow at his answer but didn't pry any further into it. Instead she said to Sunny, "It is good to see another one of us outskirt rats survive their Nightmare."

Sunless was taken by surprise, "Master Jet you grew up in the outskirts too?..."

He tuned out their voice and went through what he knew about Shadow Slave.

He had read Shadow Slave till around... chapter one thousand? And left it promptly after that because he didn't want Sunny to be an obedient slave to Nephis.

'Shit, I really should have read more than that.' He thought, shaking his head in regret.

Gilgamesh knew a few more things about what had happened after that by reading posts online. Even then, his knowledge about all that happened after that was pretty fractured.

'I had planned on reading after that but.. things happened.' Gilgamesh thought darkly, his mood turning sour.

"-hat else are you obligated to tell us?" He heard Sunny say.

Seeing that the boring part of the conversation between Sunless and Master Jet was over, he started to pay attention to it.

Jet leaned back and answered.

"That's basically it. There are some additional hoops to jump through, mostly having to do with each of your family, but... well. I've read both of your files, so I know it doesn't apply. The only thing left is to decide how the two of you will be preparing for your first journey into the Dream Realm."

She looked at her communicator and grimaced.

"I must stay, both of yours luck is exceptionally bad. There's not a lot of time at all. First of all: each of you are free to do what you want. No one is forcing you to make a certain decision. That is to say, you can choose to prepare on your own, or not prepare at all. Party until the lights go out."

He never enjoyed partying in his previous life anyways, so that was out of question.

"However, I would advise against that. As a Sleeper, both of you are also entitled to enroll in the Awakened Academy. You'll be provided with food, lodging and a wide choice of preparatory classes. This late into the year, you won't be able to learn a lot. But it's better than nothing."

She paused for a few seconds and then added:

"More importantly, you will get acquainted with most of the people who will enter the Dream Realm with you. Some of them might become your companions for life."

'Perfect place to start gaining followers.'

After all what kind of King will he be if he didn't have any subjects to take care of.

"So, what do you say? Do you want me to take both of you to the Academy?"

Without wasting a second his stupid mouth replied instantly, "Indeed. Even though I'd love to spend more time with you, Master Jet, It would be better for me to head to the Academy, of course we could always spend our time together later." Gilgamesh chuckled throwing her a wink.

Jet looked at him approvingly, ignoring the rest of his words and turned her attention towards Sunny, waiting for his response.

"Sure, why not."

Nodding at his response, Jet stood up, motioning them to follow her.

"It's decided then, I'll be taking both of you to the Awakened Academy. I'll brief both of you about a few more things on the way."

Pushing his chair back as he got up, Gilgamesh threw a glance towards Sunny.

"Let's go."

Author's Note: God dayum writing this chapter took alot longer than expected. My respect towards Webnovel writers to write over 2500 or more words a day has greatly increased.

I did want to write my own fanfiction and then my own book since I started reading but I never committed.

It's my holidays and since I don't have anything to do I took the opportunity to write this.
