Chapter 1 - Tyrant

10 years ago, when I was just 6 years old a person had vanished. The police were confused, his parents were worried but he was nowhere to be found, there was no trace or clues to find him, so the case was dropped.

Until 3 months later, tall towers suddenly began to rise up from the ground. Of course everyone was confused, goverments from all around the world already had special forces to surround the tower incase a threat came out. But at one of the towers located in Korea, the man who vanished suddenly walked out of the front entrance of the tower.

But he looked different, it seemed like he didn't age at all, but he got physically stronger, and had overpowered powers that countries wish they could have.

And he knew that very much, he overthrowed the goverment of korea and had the country bow down onto their knees. What was there anyone can do? He could destroy the entire country in one move if he wanted to afterall.

But as time passed, more people began to go missing, and suddenly turn up in many towers that were spread across the world. Many of those people took over cities or countries, the people with weaker powers just became full blown criminals around the world.

They were tyrants,monsters...Except for my older brother, Talos. He went missing a few years ago ,and after a full year, he emerged through front entrance of a tower.

He had new powers, but he knew that the others who had powers as strong as his would come and try to kill him, as he was a potential threat to them. So he went into hiding, and brought me to a different country to live in.

We live in tokyo now, He managed to land a job as a marketing manager for a company. Things are tough though with people who bear powers causing chaos around the area.

But me and my brother try to look at the positive side, I don't have to go to school since its a death wish, and Talos shows me cool tricks he can do using his powers.

"Is your power really just controlling cards?" I asked with a bit of dissapointment. I really believed my brother would get a much powerful and cooler power but even this is fine honestly.

"Of course not!" He hastly made All the cards that were flying around the room lay themselves onto the dining table. He clearly felt a bit insulted.

"These cards are just a weapon I got from a friend while I was in the tower, I don't really use it" He stated.

"Huh? You have another weapon?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah, But I can't bear to use it" He chuckled. He was hiding something from me, He looked saddened at the mention of this weapon.

"So what's so special about these cards anyway?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

"Oh, Like I said, these cards are weapons. You can control how they move and use them as a barrier to block attacks or even like a whip, what makes it powerful is its durability as nothing has ever destroyed these cards" He explained, feeling somewhat better.

"If its so powerful why only 10 cards? A normal pack has like 52 cards I think. So is there a reason to why there are so few cards?" He grinned after hearing that, he probably wanted me to ask that question for a bit now.

"Why are you asking me? I'm not the one who found these cards" I swear he was just trying to make me made on purpose.

"Why did I even ask" I said, unsurprised in the slightest. But suddenly the cards seemed to just land on the palm of my hand which caught me off guard. I looked at Talos wondering what he was trying to do.

"Keep the cards, Your birthday is coming soon and I have work on that day, so think of this as an early birthday gift alright?" He said with a smile across his face.

"Thanks" I responded, putting the cards it my pocket.

"Haha, cheer up! your birthday is coming soon and yet you're so...Gloomy" He said with a sheepish chuckle. I just stayed silent.

"Well I'll be beading to bed first, Don't stay up to late or I'm not letting you play your video games tomorow okay?" He said, stretching his body a bit.

"Yeah I know" I said. After hearing my confirmation, Talos made his way to his room, wearing teddy bear themed pyjamas and locked hia door. You know for a guy whose 4 ywars older than me, I believed he wouldn't be wearing that type of clothing for sleep, Its kind of goofy.

Since I had some time before I had to sleep, I just made my way to the living room before plopping down onto the couch, turning on the tv, and watching whatever news there was.

[20 MINUTES LATER]

Nothing really interesting was happening in the news, just more people coming out of the towers and causing more chaos.

"Hm?" While I was laying down on the couch, the remote that was next to my face began to vibrate. I sat up in confusion, Wondering what could possibly be happening at this time.

"TYRANT AEGIUS HAS REACHED TOKYO, PLEASE EVACUATE THE BUILDING AND FIND A MEARBY SHELTER"

My heart sank, I checked my phone and the same red warning popped up on my phone aswell. I ran straight to my Talos's room, Was the tyrant here for my brother? I really hope not, but I knew we both need to get out of here ASAP.

"TALO-"

BOOM

The entire building suddenly blew up, flames engulfed the building from all sides, killing every single person living here, except for me.

I slowly climbed out of the rubble of the destroyed and burnt building.

"My arm..." I got lucky I was able to use the cards to form a barrier around me the moment the building blew up, but I wasn't skilled enough to keep in in shape for long, so when I crashed onto the ground The cards didn't hold and I landed on my left arm.

I looked around at the damage, wondering what my next course of action should be. I can't take on a tyrant at all, tyrants are people who can destroy countries with ease, I stand no chance against that.

"I never thought a normal person would be able to survive that" A menacing voice said. Looking straight ahead, I saw him. Wearing a crimsuit coloured suit and black tie, with black gloves on each hand, was Aegius, The burning king.

"You must be somewhat special if you managed to survive that little explosion of mine" He said, slowly aproaching me. Using my right hand, I had the cards fly around me, ready to make a move if Aegius tried to attack me.

"What an interesting power, being able to control cards?" He stated.

"Say, why don't you join me hm? There's lots of people like you. People who are strong and powerful, You can get anything you want" He stated.

"You think I'm stupid? You all are nothing more than a bunch of criminals, I'd rather die than join you!" I shouted in anger. The cards all floated behind me, In a position that could attack anything infront of me with flick of a finger.

"Well, Remember, this was your choice" He raised his left arm up until it was facing straight towards me, before slowly opening his palm.

"Burning burst" The moment he said those words, A beam of fire shot out straight from the palm of his left hand.

I quickly had the cards position themselves infront of me, And managed to block the attack. But the beam was not stopping, and holding the cards in this position was difficult.

"Boo" Aigeus chuckled behind me, his right hand was suddenly infused with some sort of fire magic. He got behind me somehow, I glanced back at rhe beam and realized he had created a fire minion to shoot the beam while he himself snuck up on me from behind.

But I couldn't change the cards positioning right now otherwise I'll be hit and burned to death. But if I get hit by Aigeus's punch I'm not surviving at all.

"BURNING IMPAC-" He swung his fist foward, but before he hit me, I was suddenly knocked back by some sort of impact. I git up and ran back ti where I stood before. I wondered what just happened.

The Last thing I saw was the debris created by the punch, Or so I thought. The fire minion just despawned, and when I wondered what happened to Aegius when all of a sudden I realized who just saved me.

"TALOS!??? YOU'RE ALIVE!?" My jaw dropped onto the floor.

"Hurry we need to leave right now" He said calmly. He took out what seemed to be a shard and prepared to throw it behind him.

"System command" Before Talos could throw it though, he heard those words come out of Aegius's mouth.

"SUNFIRE BURST" With that command, a large ball made of flames could be seen falling from the sky.

I watched in horror, while Talos seemed to ignore that and quickly throw the shard behind us which somehow resulted in a portal opening at the direction he threw the shard.

"GO QUICK" Talos shouted worriedly. Without a second thought, I booked it and ran straight towards the portal.

"System: Burning bind" Before I could entee the portal Chains made of a extremly hot metal suddenly rose from the ground and wrapped around both of my arms.

"AAAAA!"I fell to the ground, My arms were hurting so much, Tears began to form from my eyes.

Talos rushed towards me and tried to use the cards to cut the chains but it wasnt working.

"Should've know better than to try something stupid like this" Aegius stated, coldly.

"Well, goodbye then, have fun in the afterlife" He smiled.

"Syste-" before he could finish his sentence, Talos rushed straight towards him, and reached out towarda something with his right arm before suddenly acting as if he crushed something in the palm of his hand.

"Not so powerful without that system now huh? " Aegius stared in shock. Talos, wasted no time and held Aegius by the throat, tightening his hand slowly, and slowly.

Aegius was gasping for air, He couldn't speak, or break free from Talos's grasp. Aegius continued to strugle, desperate to break free, his eyes slowly began to turn red.

But Talos didn't seem to care, he just held Aegius tightly, without mercy, this is the first time I've seen my brother so angry like this.

The burning chains suddenly shattered, Probably because Aegius already passed out from lack of air. As the chains fell, the pain slowly began to fade, But the chains had burnt my skin, leaving multiple long marks on both of my arms.

Ignoring that I quickly rushed to Talos. I don't forgive people like Aegius, for what they did do us defenseless people.

But we shouldn't kill them because of it, the more we kill the more we begin to believe its an easier solution, and when that happens, we become no different than a tyrant.

"Its not worth it, can we just get out of here please?" I begged Talos, I felt extremely tired and my left arm was still in so much pain.

He turned back to look at me, His hardened expression began to soften, and he let out a sigh. I was barely staying awake.

"Sorry you had to see that, Just sleep, where we are going is safe" Talos reassured, I slowly nodded and closed my eyes, and felt him picking me up and carry me.
