I turned around as I was the closest to the exit door, and I opened it quietly, looking both sides, prior to... BEEP. Before I could react, it was already pitch black.
i turned around.. acting like i could see.. but realized i couldn't.. obviously. "..does anyone have a flashlight?" I asked, through the darkness.
Ruby replied, "I do.. but it's my phone's flashlight, if you don't mind." I could hear her footsteps carefully making their way towards me. After a few steps she spoke again. "Is this you, Perry..?"
But before I could reply, someone else beat me to it. "uh.. no, Ruby.. it's me, Nicole.." he said, and I could technically feel Ruby's hand retreat slowly.
"oh..! s-sorry.. Nicole.." she muttered in a flustered tone. A few moments of silence passed as then I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"here.." I heard Ruby mumble to me before handing my phone, after turning the flashlight on.
"thanks." I said before using it to check sound right outside the front door, checking for any potential threats. Thankfully, nothing. I turned around and searched for Nicole and the Maverick behind me. I saw Nicole, but not Maverick.
"..where is Maverick?" I asked, turning around fully. I flashed the flashlight around the room, but no Maverick. But what creeped me out the most? there was no sound. no sound.. he didn't make any sound and just vanished like that.
"Maverick???" Rexine called out, a little worried at his sudden disappearance. disappearance.
"What the hell..? wasn't he just here?" Christan said, as I turned the flashlight to him. He flinched at the sudden light on his face. "You can lay the flashlight low, shitty face.." he muttered, mild irritation in his voice.
"Right," I muttered, pointing the flashlight to the floor. It was silent for a moment before the mute spoke. ok.. perhaps that was a bit harsh.
"..maybe he left the apartment? when the lights went out, maybe.." she assumed, with her usual quiet voice.
"n-... that does sound like a him thing to do.. actually." Rexine replied first, her tone thoughtful.
"only one way to find out.." I said, stepping outside the apartment, with the flashlight flashing side to side as I checked around my surroundings.
Mavericks pov:
looking around, it was pitch black as i tried seeing in the dark, holding my hands out hoping not to bump straight into anything. I turned at a corner, and immediately saw a blinking dim blue light, right outside of a room. but it didn't look like an apartment, it was a room with a bunch of fancy schmancy tvs and stuff. Seriously, people do not need like 5 tv's. I lived with one, why can't they? anyways... I walked to the light, turning the doorknob and entering the room.
I left the door open a crack as I pushed it back behind me, trying to make out my surroundings in the pitch black darkness. All I managed to see was just the reflection of the dim blue coloured light on the tv screens. I took a step back, tripping on something on the floor.. but managed to catch myself in time, leaning my weight on the wall.
"jeez... I kinda wish I was a cat now.." I muttered to myself. I put my arms beside me, as I saw a figure of something, my eyes slowly adjusting to the darkness. i took it, but almost dropped it because it was certainly heavier than I had initially thought. i felt it and ran my thumb across what felt like a switch. I put pressure on it but nothing. Once I finally managed to see what it was, I sighed. i hate this i hate this i hate this, curse whoever the hell became a zombie first. It was a flashlight. with no or run out battery. I hate this.
Perrys pov:
As me and the others carefully walked our way through the halls, no sound was heard except our soft footsteps walking. I held the flashlight, leading everyone through the hallways. Ruby slightly behind me and everyone else behind her. We carefully and silently walked, turning at a corner.. but I happened to be going too close to the walls, and my hand hit the corner, knocking the phone out of my grip. it made a loud clunk sound and it hit the floor, the flashlight still on. We all froze for a moment, but as nothing came our way, I took the phone quietly and turned the corner fully.. bumping into someone.
"Maverick?" I said quietly, but before I could flash the light at it, I fell to the floor with a thud.
but then i realized when this 'someone' groaned loudly. a zombie, shit shit shit. I tried pushing it off, but failed as this thing was actually heavy.. no offense to it. But, next thing you knew it was off of me, hit away and thrown over to a wall with one hit. damn. When I turned my head to look, Ruby was standing there, holding a steel pipe with the zombie's blood on it.
"remind me to never piss her off.." Nicole said, as Ruby stood beside me, helping me up with a smile.
As I got up and brushed myself off, Christian came over to me.. and awkwardly stood there for a moment.
"Are you ok? I mean.. we don't want anyone here injured.. so.." he muttered in a surprisingly quiet voice, a contrast to his usual loud one.
"im.. fine." I said, my lips tugging at a slight smile. As we looked around and saw there were no more zombies, we continued as we actually managed to walk down the hallway, I saw a dim blue light which looked pretty familiar. the surveillance room. but, right now I wouldn't want to take the risk of running into more zombies, so we went the other way, making another turn leaving the room untouched.
We continued through the hallways looking for Maverick, but no luck. There were very few zombies, so we managed to smoothly walk through without causing a ruckus. We even went one floor up and searched there aswell.
Mavericks pov:
I spent like the past seven minutes flipping the switch on and off hoping it would just flash on. no luck, unfortunately.. But, I heard something. a loud clunk next to two loud thuds. Zombies? shoot... I'm definitely not a fighter. but it would be cool if i just magically became a black belt over this silly zombie apocalypse.. AHEM. Either way, I don't really have a choice, I was practically sandwiched and surrounded by these brainless beings.
my eyes finally adjusted to the dark.. mostly and i managed to make out where the drawers of the desk were. I opened one, trying to make out anything that could be batteries. nevermind dudes.. I give up. maybe i'll just use this see in the dark setting usefully. I looked around, and to my left I could make out a couch, thankfully. I'm tired of standing. I walked over carefully, but when I arrived at it I saw its light coloured stained with something much much darker in colour.. yeah i'm not that tired of standing anyway…
