Chapter 8 - His claim
Warmth, that was the first thing I felt when I stirred, then the scent, deep, musky unmistakably him. My eyes fluttered open and my breath hitched, god...."
I wasn't in my room, but his, the room was dark and edgy despite being luxurious.
Xavier sat in a chair, leaning back casually as if he'd been there for hours, an arm resting lazily on the arm rest, the other holding a beer. But his eyes.... They were locked on me like I was a prey.
"You're awake?..." He said, his voice low, and dangerous.
I clutched the blanket closer, trying to cover my naked body. "W-Why am I-"
"You collasped in the middle of the damn grounds" His eyes raked over my blanket covered body. "You thought I'd let anyone touch you?"
Before I could answer, the freaking door swung open and Jayden entered, a grin on his face. "Sleeping beauty is finally awake". His eyes drifted between us. "Careful Alpha, keep looking at her like that and people will start talking"
Xavier growled. "Out"
"She looks good in your bed though". The growl deepened, Jayden winked at me and then slipped out just before Xavier rose from his chair.
The way he moved carried power, making the air feel heavier, he stopped at the edge of my bed, towering over me.
"You let other males talk to you like that" He asked growling
My eyes widened. "W-What? He was just-"
"Just what?" His tilted my face towards him, forcing me to look at him. "Imagining things that belongs to me?"
"I'm not yours" I whispered. His lips curled up, but not in amusement, but something intense. "You've been mine since that night happened. You just haven't realized it"
His hand slid to the back of my neck, pulling me close as his scent surrounded me. "I don't share, not my pack, not my territory and definitely not you.
Before I could think, he straightened, coldness snapping back into place. "Get dressed, you'll be feasting with us tonight, 7:00 pm sharp" And then he walked out.
God, he was so infuriating and confusing.
Later that night. The grand dining hall was alive with music, glass clinking, laughter and a lively atmosphere from allied packs. I sat near Maya, who chatted brightly to distract me from the piercing gaze and daggers Seraphine was sending my way.
When Xavier stood up to give a short
welcome speech, looking every inch of the Alpha, powerful, untouchable, his gaze flickered to me for a moment as he blinked away.
And of course, Seraphine just had to notice.
She rose gracefully, walking across the room to stand behind my chair. "Oh poor thing" She cooed loudly. "You're still wearing that" She gestured to my simple white dress Maya gave to me.
"I guess when your pack was slaughtered, you perhaps forgot how to change between outfits because you run out of clothes" A few wolves chuckled under their breath. "That's enough Seraphine", Maya snapped. But Seraphine only smiled sweetly.
"Oh I'm just trying to help her out, I'm just worried she'll have a hard time surviving here, poor thing". Her eyes gleamed with cruelty. "Maybe that's why my future 'fiance' has taken interest in her"
Future fiance.... 'Yeah right'
The table erupted into whispers as I bit my lip. I dared a glance towards Xavier, seeing his jaw tight, His wolf there in his eyes, dangerous and angry.
Seraphine's hand brushed my shoulder with mock affection. "Careful darling, wolves here bite hard"
I opened my mouth to speak, angry and annoyed, when Xavier's chair scraped loudly as he stood up, Seraphine faltered back. He walked across the room towards Seraphine, his gaze locked on her.
"Touch her again and you'll lose your damn hand..." He said threatenly, the room fell in dead silence. Seraphine curtsied and stepped back.
Without another word, Xavier grabbed my wrist, pulling me up from my seat, dragging me out, Maya smiled widely like an idiot.
And just like that the feast continued behind us. And I knew nothing would taste the same again.
