Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 - Blood On The Wind

Chapter 10 - Blood On The Wind

The warrior was on one knee panting from exhaustion. "Alpha, the patrol.... they didn't make it.-"

Everyone in the hallway froze. Xavier's wolf surged to the surface, eyes darkening. "Where?" His voice was a low growl that rattled the border.

"T-The east border, Th-They are trying to breach the gates".

Maya stood up to her feet, worry flashing in her eyes. I felt the air turn cold. I instinctively stood too only for Seraphine's voice to cut through.

"Oh, where's our little princess going" Her voice dripped with venom. As she purred loudly enough for the hall to hear. "She can watch how a Real Luna stands by her alpha in battle"

The room's attention was on me as Xavier's eyes snapped to me, unreadable before turning to back to his warriors. "Prepare the defenses extra, no one leaves the gates unguarded". He ordered.

Then turned to Jayden. "Keep her inside, if she steps outside" His voice lowered. "You know what to do..."

My wolf was restless, I couldn't just sit back and watch others bleed.

The sound of clashing steel and blades tear into the night. I paced in my room, heart pounding, all my instincts wanted me to run to the fight, to help, a large crash shook the packhouse.

My door burst open, Jayden stood there, his eyes frantic "Merida, stay here -"

Another growl, this time closer, too close, the smell of blood and burnt fur invaded the room. Before I could get a chance to speak, a massive rogue lunged through the shattered windows, I was so terrified.

My scream barely left my lips before Xavier was there, slammed the beast to the floor, claws ripping through its throat. Xavier's chest heaved as he turned to me, eyes blazing.

"You went against my word". He snarled.

I was startled . "I didn't go out.

"You were considering it". He snapped.

He stepped closer to me, his claws out, blood dripping, his scent was stronger, intoxicating. "You don't get to think princess. You obey."

He noticed a slight cut on my arm, blood gushing. I wanted to help fight badky, so I started moving as he grabbed my wrist.

"Stay here". Xavier ordered sharply.

I snapped "I can fight, I can help, you're injured and your warriors are dying". I yanked his hand away, running towards the chaos before he could stop me.

The night was fire and fury, rogues poured through the shattered east wall. Teeth bared and eyes glowing with feral total madness. I shifted into my wolf, lunging into the fray, helping the other warriors. As I tore the rogues apart vigorously.

When the last body fell, the earth was stained with blood. I shifted into my human form, putting on my clothes to cover my nude form. As Xavier stalked towards me, fury in his step.

"You disobeyed me"

"I saved lives" I replied catching my breath.

Before he could speak again, Seraphine voice cut through the air. "She's reckless Xavier, what if she had gotten her self killed, or worse opening the gates open for them without 'realizing' it".

My head whipped toward her, shock written all over my face. "What? I'd never - "

But Seraphine walked closer to Xavier, her voice soft, but slicing. "You barely know her. She's a stray. What if she's the reason why these rogues keeps attacking your pack, our pack, or maybe she's trying to make you soften and look weak infront of our pack."

She lets her gaze linger on me, smirking cruelly as if she's winning a debate. "Or Maybe, she's just looking for a way into your bed... who knows, is not the first time she's done that"

My nails dug into my palms. "You - " Xavier's voice cuts in, his voice flat, "Enough, both of you" But his eyes.... they weren't as certain as before, something changed behind them.
