When Sonia left the private room, her face was dark and her expression gloomy. Even Gerald couldn't utter a word as he followed obediently behind Sonia.
Sonia was raging with so much fire, anger and rage, that she just wanted to vent it out somewhere.
Dressed in her today's red suit, she looked like a warrior who was on her way to battle, and those who came across her in the hall shuddered with fear as they made their way.
How dare her sister utter such a hurtful word to her?
She could tolerate any kind of scolding. Whether she was stingy or ruthless. She didn't care much about those kinds of accusations but to hear her own sister stating how cursed she was. Sonia's heart hurt badly.
She felt suffocated and stuffy.
She felt as if she was being squeezed so hard and when she was on the verge of losing it, the puppeteer would let go before repeating the same process over and over again.
"Hah!" she couldn't help but mockingly laugh as she stepped into the elevator, thinking to herself, 'Is it my fault that I can't …..' but still failed to finish thinking because of the pang in her heart.
Something that she couldn't even dare think about and yet the sister she raised, fed and pampered dearly dared to poke where it hurts the most. Reminding her of how useless she was when it comes to what she truly wanted.
She had it all - the money, fame, and connections, but the one thing that she had always wanted ….. that …..
Ding!
Amidst the middle of her thoughts, the elevator opened, and she cut her thoughts abruptly as she raised her head, her cold gaze landing on the young man dressed in a white shirt and a pair of black casual pants entering the elevator with his head lowered and a handkerchief covering his mouth.
Badum. Badum. Badum.
She couldn't see his face clearly, but something about his silhouette made her heart beat so loud in her ears, that it reminded her of that person.
'Is it him?' she couldn't help but wonder, her hands trembling as she clenched them, trying to stop herself from reaching out to him and forcing him to look at her.
The elevator door closed, but that nagging feeling didn't stop at all. She kept thinking about it, and the more she did, the more certain she became.
Sonia couldn't help but think about her sister's hurtful words. 'You are cursed!' and indeed, she was cursed.
It just hurts hearing it from other people.
It wasn't like she wanted this. She also wanted to be normal, be like others, and be happy. But without the root found, how could all that come to fruition?
So once her heart settled on the young man who was standing in front of her in the elevator, her eyes narrowed as determination flickered in her eyes.
'I will have you! You are mine!'
"Things will get better and better, trust me! We just need to sign this contract!" a cheerful young girl said as she clutched a bag in her hand while following the young man who was walking in front of her, his figure being one of the best she had ever seen in this industry.
A smile blossomed on her face, thinking about how fortunate she was at this moment.
The young man smiled weakly as he listened to the words of his assistant, but didn't refute her. After all, her words were indeed true. As long as the contract was signed, their lives would change for the better.
These two years were the most unfortunate years he had ever experienced in his life. Thankfully, everything was going back on the right track. It was just a matter of time before he got back on his feet again.
Surrounded by people who cared for him, he was certain that his time to shine wasn't that far. But to do so, he needed to cross this hurdle first.
He took in a deep breath as he neared the room where his future awaited and when he got there, he stood there for a moment and his female assistant nervously stood with him while waiting for him to make a move.
After a moment, the young man raised his hand and knocked at the door.
Creak.
Moments later, someone opened the door, and he was welcomed with an ambiguous smile which made his hair stand.
"Welcome, Liam. The director is waiting inside."
Liam politely nodded at the other, feeling a bit cringy about the other party, but didn't dare show it.
Liam stepped into the private room, followed by his assistant, Dorcas, feeling a bit nervous but filled with anticipation.
However, when he raised his eyes to look at the people inside the room, his gaze darkened as he spotted two people, he wished he didn't have to see for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, it seemed as if fate had something else in store for him.
Liam shifted his gaze from those two before landing on the director he was supposed to be meeting and the other smiled at him ambiguously, and Liam felt his intestines churning and bile rising. He just wanted to leave the room and get as far away from this place as fast as he could.
However, just because he wanted to do so didn't mean that it could be easily done. As the moment he locked gaze with the director, the other generously beckoned him.
"Liam, there you are! Come here! We have all been waiting!" his tone filled with affection which only made Liam feel sick to the stomach.
Was this the kind of job his dear agent found for him?
Unfortunately, he was weak, a nobody, and showing any ugly reactions at this moment would only work against him and give others a handle against him. Something that he didn't particularly want at this stage of his life.
He plastered a fake smile on his face and politely nodded towards the director before walking towards the sitting area where an empty couch seemed to be waiting for him.
Badum. Badum.
His heart thumped loudly in his rib cage, as he spotted several faces he knew from the industry and he became much more nervous than he already was.
Liam took a seat before greeting everyone with a smile.
