His eyes dulled as he waited for the elevator to reach the floor. Just because they have money, they step on others and make others feel as if they don't belong and are not worth it.
"Haha …. Cough … cough," he couldn't help but chuckle mockingly as he coughed when he thought about how he fought his agent against being sponsored when he first entered the entertainment industry.
He just wanted to show his talent, make money for his family and once he got enough, retire and start a family. But who would have known that it would end this way in the end?
Ding!
The elevator arrived, the doors opened and without looking up, he stepped inside. All he could see were several pairs of feet, with one being female and the rest male.
Liam was afraid, if he raised his head, he would make these people see his pathetic face. With all the blood he had coughed, he knew that his face didn't look at the moment. He didn't want anyone to feel sorry for him at all.
So, facing down was the right choice. Once the elevator reaches the ground floor, he won't be seeing these people ever again. Unfortunately, he was very …. Very wrong.
Standing inside the elevator, Liam found his thoughts drifting as he sensed a piercing gaze on him. His body tensed and his hand tightened above his mouth, afraid of letting a single sound.
Unfortunately, the more he did so, the more he blocked his air pathway, but he didn't seem to realize anything for a while until he started becoming dizzy.
Ding!
Before he could make sense of what was happening, the elevator doors opened, and he was seeing stars.
'Am I really dying?' that was the last thing he asked before he blacked out, startling the people who were in the elevator.
****
'Where am I?' he asked drowsily as he looked around, his eyes a bit heavy.
However, after a few struggles, Liam's eyes were fully opened, and he was at a loss as he looked at the IV drip and the familiar hospital walls he wished weren't going to see anytime soon.
With his mind working at full capacity, Liam pieced together what happened. He fainted in the elevator and someone took him to the hospital. But who was the person?
He couldn't help but wonder.
Creak.
As he wondered about that, the door of the ward opened and he tensed, feeling nervous about who might walk into the room to see him.
But when the person came into view, his eyes widened as his jaws dropped to the ground.
'How can someone be this so beautiful? And why does she look familiar? Where have I seen her?'
Badum. Badum. Badum.
Liam's heart was thumping loudly like a drum as he looked at the woman in red, her brown locks hanging on her shoulders. She looked very pretty. He felt as if his soul was being pulled out of his body. The feeling was scary.
All of his reactions were seen by Sonia, who still looked cold, but the corner of her lips rose as she was amused by Liam's reaction upon seeing her.
'It seems that I haven't lost my touch yet. This might be done easier than I thought!' she cheerfully thought, but didn't dare expose that side of hers.
Sonia was holding a tablet she received from Gerald, who was guarding outside.
She walked towards Liam who, at this point, had managed to calm himself down, but the hue of blush on his cheeks was enough to make Sonia squeal inwardly at how cute he looked.
Sonia took a seat on a padded chair just close to Liam and crossed her legs. Her action made Liam sit straight suddenly as if he were in some class of some sort.
"Pft~" Sonia stifled her chuckle when she saw that and cleared her throat as she gazed at the information Liam Gerald had found in the short time that they met.
"Your name is Liam Sinclair. Is that right?" without introducing herself, Sonia asked Liam directly.
Liam nervously clutched the sheet the moment he heard her cold but melodious voice. It felt soothing to the ears. He couldn't help but wonder what she was up to asking such a question. Nonetheless, he truthfully answered her.
"Yes, that's me."
"And you are dying?" Sonia asked as she closed the tablet, and looked at Liam deeply, curious as to how he would answer.
Imagine her shock when she learnt of such news. She was in disbelief, but the doctors were barely wrong. She knew that this kind of question wasn't good to ask Liam directly, but she wanted to hear it from him, no matter how badly that could affect him.
Surely, when he heard that, Liam closed his eyes as he clenched his fists, memories of what transpired at the club resurfacing.
'Why is everyone trying to break me like this?' he just couldn't understand it.
He snapped his eyes open, his eyes a bit red, with tears pooling in his eyes. He looked at the woman he didn't know much about, gritted his teeth and truthfully responded.
He didn't know if she wanted to mock him or what, but since she saved him, considering that she was the woman in the elevator, he could answer her about that.
"Yes. I have like four months to live. What do you want by asking me such a question?" his tone was cold, filled with anger and unwillingness.
Sonia bit her lower lip when she heard that and looked at the sky as she took deep breaths, still not willing to accept this cold and cruel fact. She chuckled as she thought to herself, 'I am indeed cursed. I found him too late. Didn't I?'
After calming her thoughts, she looked at Liam with a solemn gaze and asked, "Do you want to take revenge? Revenge on the agent who hid you and didn't give you the resources that you deserved. The agency that did nothing but allow you to be hidden and have your potential hidden. The woman who pursued you shook your heart and made you believe that you were going to start a family and live the rest of your lives together.
The man you believed was your best friend, poured your heart and grievances to and yet went behind your back to take your woman and resources and destroyed everything that you so believed in?
Should we also add the director who bullies the weak but fears the strong? Disregarding your feelings, he still allowed others to make fun of your condition, thus elevating your illness today. Do you want to do something about it before you die?"
