Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3: HIS CURSE

After exchanging fake pleasantries, Liam turned towards the director and apologetically said while raising a glass of wine, "I am sorry for keeping you waiting!" though he was certain that he had come early when taking into account the appointment time his agent gave him.

The director smiled at him as he toasted to him and responded, "There is no need. You came just on time!" brushing the matter away.

Liam thankfully toasted the director and took a sip before putting the glass on the table under the scrutiny of many gazes.

The director's brows corked playfully when he saw that and asked inquisitively, "Your body hasn't recovered fully yet?" while scanning Liam.

Liam apologetically nodded a wry smile on his face, and answered, "I am still getting there!" with helplessness in his tone upon having his condition revealed in front of so many people.

However, that helplessness suddenly turned into dejection as a female sarcastic voice sounded throughout the room. "Rather than getting there, why don't you just be honest and confess that you are a walking dead!"

Liam clenched his fists as he turned his head to face the woman who had just said hurtful words, which so happened to reveal his true condition at the moment.

'She looks beautiful. Even more than I remember!' he thought dejectedly as he faced the woman who once meant the whole world to him.

When did it all change?

How come he couldn't even make sense of it until now?

Unfortunately, just because his mind was like that didn't mean that others were that confused.

The director was pretty much interested in the drama. He couldn't help but lean in his seat and shift his attention from Liam to the woman who had just spoken and interestingly asked, "What do you mean? Why do you curse him so?" curious about why his investor was firing shots at Liam and cursing him like that.

The young woman rolled her eyes as she looked at Liam while embracing the young man who was sitting by her side and mockingly responded, "You know that he recently woke up from a coma, right?"

The director and others nodded their heads. That wasn't a secret. After all, when Liam fell unconscious, he was in the middle of a fan meeting. It caused a lot of waves when it happened.

Everyone thought that he was fatigued and needed some rest. But who would have known that it would take him nearly twenty months before he finally opened his eyes? It's been two months since he awoke.

When Liam heard her willingly exposing matters that didn't concern her, he gritted his teeth and growled at her in warning, "Wendy, stop it!" hoping that she wouldn't say another word but as if triggered, she snickered at him as she continued.

"Whilst the news reports say that he is recovering, I am afraid that director if you dare sign with him. Your show might suffer a great loss if you sign him!"

"Wendy!" Liam growled at Wendy, his eyes red, praying earnestly for her to just shut her damn mouth but the young man seated next to her, glared at him in warning before patting Wendy's hand in comfort, making her so fueled to continue.

"The doctors diagnosed him with some unknown illness. Everyone believes he is cursed. After all, he is only left with at most four months to live, if I am not mistaken," Wendy scoffingly said as she looked at Liam with disdain before looking at the director, "that's why it will be in our best interests if you leave him out. Having Sean on your show is already enough!" And didn't forget to promote the young man next to her, whom everyone in the room could tell just what kind of relationship the two were currently in.

"Cough ….. cough." When Liam heard that, he couldn't help but start coughing, with his hand covering his mouth.

The metallic taste on his tongue made him feel panicked as he could tell that it was about to happen and all he wanted to do now was leave the room before he was embarrassed further.

The director narrowed his eyes as he looked at Liam, whom he really wanted to use. Liam had a great voice, which people loved a lot. With him on the show, he was certain that his ratings would surely rise. However, he couldn't go against the wishes of the investor now that he had heard something so bizarre, he couldn't risk it.

If it was someone else who said that Liam was dying, he might not have believed it, but Wendy, those in the circle, knew that before she was with Sean, she was hugging right now. She was once Liam's girlfriend.

There might be friction between the three of them, but lying like that and cursing Liam like that. That wasn't something that anyone could do without evidence.

Where there is smoke, there is fire.

When he saw Liam coughing as if he could die any second, the director's heart became very firm, even though he felt apologetic for what was about to happen.

He might be desperate for ratings, but to get them at the risk of having someone die in his show, he couldn't afford something like that.

So, the best way to cut such losses, and future problems was to be ruthless now. Moreover, who hadn't been rejected once or twice in their lifetimes?

However, before he could open his mouth and say a few words, Wendy beat him up to it.

"Liam, for the sake of our past relationship, I advise you to stop your wishful thinking. Someone as cursed like you, should go home and wait for death. Don't be so selfish to drag others into your mess!"

Wendy's words were very hurtful. It made Liam, who had been suppressing himself for a while, cough out blood, which scared the heck out of everyone!

"Blood!"

"He is dying!"

"OMG! He is truly cursed!"

He didn't know how he got out of that room. All he knew was that he needed to go as far away as he could from that place.

He needed a peaceful place and wanted to think.

Things haven't been good for him lately. The moment he saw Wendy and Sean in that room, he shouldn't have been generous. He should have just left and spared himself from this public execution. Unfortunately, what's done is done. Now he could only suffer the consequences.

But he didn't want to accept this outcome. What wrong had he done in his life to deserve all this?

Getting into a coma for no reason, getting diagnosed with an unknown terminal illness and being given six months to live after waking up. As if that wasn't enough, the girlfriend of many years was taken by his so-called best friend.

He didn't know when they hooked up, how they did it, and why they didn't even pick other people out there. But they just had to be together.

As if that wasn't enough, Wendy dared to reveal his personal matters. Something that only he and the doctors were supposed to know. Was this the power of money?
