To be honest, she had never quarreled with her ex-husbands. They were compatible and understood each other very well. That lasted until their true mates appeared in their lives. As soon as they met, it didn't even take long before they asked for a divorce. As if charms enchanted them, they would act weirdly. Only then would they quarrel.
They would rather leave with nothing and even compensate her than ignore those women. That was more painful than anything she had ever felt.
After three unsuccessful marriages, she put a halt to marriage. With only one chance remaining to marry legally in her country, Sonia couldn't waste that chance by trying her luck. Moreover, after learning that she had a love debt, she wanted to search for that man. Unfortunately, she only had the back and side profile, which made it difficult to find him.
Moreover, she felt a bit scared to search for him using the normal channels. She didn't want anyone to know about the matter. She didn't have the answers to give them. At the same time, she didn't want to give her enemies something to threaten her with.
After all, who knows who would find him first?
Thankfully, meeting Felinda became the perfect spark and made her meet with that man's incarnation. Unfortunately, life wasn't fair.
When she found him, his heart had someone else, even though he was hurt. He was dying and didn't have much time to live. How was she going to repay the love debt while living for such a short time?
Sonia's head was aching badly. She didn't know how she returned to her house, which was a large estate, by the way.
After growing up in mild poverty and struggling hard during the times, she was the black sheep of the family, which she still was in some sense. She wanted to treat herself well.
It was already a miracle that instead of working for someone else in a big company, she became her own boss. As a boss, wouldn't it be unreasonable if she didn't buy a big house?
However, recalling how having worthwhile assets could be helpful in times of need, she didn't go for a villa but went for a secluded estate. It was on the outskirts of the city. Very large with a mansion, beautiful gardens, a vineyard, a small farm, and a small ranch.
There was nothing much to complain about the place.
She spent quite a lot of money to purchase that estate, to be honest, but it was worth it. The estate was self-sustaining, and it increased in value all the time. Moreover, the vineyard gave her a great advantage. She farmed her own grapes, which she used to make a specialty wine, which sold very well on the market.
In case something happens to the company in the future, she could survive with the estate alone or even sell it. There were many foxes eyeing her estate. So, she knew pretty well how much it was worth on the market.
When she saw the beautiful and magnificent gate with the SAWYERS board sparkling from a distance, all negative thoughts vanished.
So, what if she was cursed? With Liam by her side, she was certain that the curse would gradually go away. She hoped so.
The gates opened automatically, thanks to the dutiful guards manning the estate. She didn't have to wait but drove straight inside.
The road to the mansion was wide, and there were hedges on each side, neatly trimmed and designed. After the hedge, there were gardens. With all sorts of flowers which were plucked for several uses.
After every two days, vases of flowers were placed in her bedroom, study, dining room, and living room.
Some of the fresh flowers were used to make tea, though she still found the tea unique and a bit difficult to adapt to. The dried flowers weren't discarded but used to make scented pouches and powders used during bathing.
Her servants were very knowledgeable. Perhaps it was because there were foreign personnel amongst them. Otherwise, there was no way she could enjoy some of the luxury she did at the estate.
The place was very large and seemed empty, but it was home. When she was within the confines of the walls of the estate, she felt at peace and protected.
In front of the mansion, there was a functioning fountain which supplied the pond. Inside this pond, there were ornamental fishes which, at times, she wondered what the benefits of keeping them were. But since there was money to raise them, she might as well continue to beautify the house.
After circling half of the fountain, she stopped the car in front of the mansion and smiled at the servants, who were already waiting outside.
She never wanted them doing that, to be honest, but who made her hire a butler who graduated with honors from a professional butler school?
She could only adapt. Moreover, after experiencing it several times, she found the whole thing fascinating, and it put her at ease.
Every time they welcomed her like that, she was reminded that she wasn't exactly alone and all her unwillingness would automatically vanish.
The butler opened the door for her and she gave the man a nod while he welcomed her respectfully.
"Welcome back, Ma'am. How was your day?"
As she alighted from the car, Sonia responded with a faint smile on her face. "The day was fruitful. You will be having a new master tomorrow." She shared the news naturally as if she was talking about groceries.
The butler was stunned at first. His eyes widened at the news which had been dropped before he collected himself.
"That's great. Should we clean the original room?" he asked as he summoned the driver over to take care of the car.
"Um. Do so. More will be arranged when he joins," she added.
The butler beamed upon hearing that and cheerfully responded, "Then I will do the basics for now."
Sonia looked at the man who had guarded her home for five years and smiled at him gratefully. "Sure. I leave everything to you!" before walking away.
The butler watched as Sonia left and there was a hidden mirth in his eyes.
The driver took over the car and drove smoothly to the underground garage while the butler started walking to the manor.
Meanwhile on Sonia's side after leaving the butler, she walked into the mansion with the servants greeting and welcoming her back to the estate.
She walked to the elevator and took it to the top floor where her quarters were.
On that floor, there were two quarters and several entertainment rooms. According to the person who built the estate in the first place, these two quarters were for the owners; the wife and husband. She didn't understand why a husband and wife were to be separated, to be honest. How would they build their relationship and get closer?
However, when she was with her third husband, she finally understood the importance of those quarters. When she married her third ex-husband, they lived in the main quarters, which still remained as her living quarters until now. However, one and a half months into the marriage and living at the estate, he found his soulmate.
It took her another one and a half months to finally agree that she wasn't destined to be with him. During that period, he moved into the other quarters. He was very determined to separate from her. Facing a familiar situation like that. She could only give up.
That was five years ago.
