Thud.
Diana, clad in her golden armor, landed lightly and accurately on her own balcony, having leaped a hundred meters through the night sky with Leo in her arms. With the floor-to-ceiling windows already shattered, she took a few more steps and entered the dark, messy living room.
She casually tossed the golden rope in her hand, and it hung itself on the ceiling once more, its own light serving as a temporary lamp. In the golden glow, the armor on her tall frame was dazzling.
"What's with your outfit?" Leo couldn't help but stare. The armor was noble and stern, a perfect match for the goddesses described in ancient Greek mythology.
Diana glanced at him calmly and said, "The battle suit I normally wear is currently on you. I could only put on the spare Golden Eagle Armor I keep at home."
Well, that makes sense, Leo thought, but then the reality of the situation crashed down on him. He was still in the women's armor. Her personal armor.
He had been caught red-handed. The embarrassment was overwhelming.
"So, how does it feel?" Diana asked, looking him up and down with a meaningful, teasing smile.
"How does what feel?" Leo pretended not to understand, tugging at his short skirt in a panic. "Auntie, put me down! Quickly!"
The moment Diana set him on his feet, Leo's body went rigid. He felt as if he had been completely hollowed out. The silver hair that had draped over his shoulders began to shrink, returning to its original length and fading back to black. The divine light in his pupils flickered and vanished, leaving them their normal dark brown.
The extraordinary power left him like a receding tide.
The armor he wore—the vintage longsword, the dark gold shield, the silver bracelets, the noble tiara, and the skirt—all of it lifted from his body and reattached itself to the golden rope hanging from the ceiling.
Leo subconsciously looked at the grandfather clock in the living room. It was almost eleven o'clock.
"So the ability is gone. It lasted for about four hours?" he breathed, looking down at himself. He was back in his long-sleeved shirt and slacks, though they were now soaked with sweat.
It felt as if the entire night had been just a dream. But the woman in golden armor standing next to him, and the glow of the golden rope above, proved that it had all been real.
Diana, in her Golden Eagle Armor, and Leo, now an ordinary boy again, looked at each other, then quickly averted their gazes.
Too much had changed tonight. Secrets had been revealed. A mixture of guilt, worry, fear, and embarrassment filled the air. Neither of them knew what to say, and the living room fell into a tense, silent stalemate.
"You—" Diana began to speak.
But Leo cut her off. Waving a hand and finding the first excuse he could, he bolted for the bathroom. "Uh, I'm filthy! I'm going to take a bath first!"
He left Diana standing alone in the living room. The moonlight streamed in from the broken window, making her seem, for a moment, a little lonely.
Click.
Leo shut the bathroom door and leaned against it, letting out a long, relieved breath.
To suddenly find out that your only relative isn't human… a normal person probably couldn't handle that. But perhaps because he was a reincarnator, the thought didn't bother him much. Human or not, the person he had known his whole life was still his aunt. That hadn't changed.
It was more that he'd been caught in her clothes. And he had, technically, done something wrong. A combination of all these things made it impossible for him to face her. So, he had chosen to run. Just for a little while.
I'm just a kid, after all, he told himself, trying to justify his escape. He stripped off his dirty, wet clothes and turned on the hot water, his exhausted body almost collapsing into the spacious bathtub.
Though the extraordinary power was gone, the fatigue from his battle with the Abomination remained. As the hot water filled the tub and steam filled the room, Leo sank into the heat and let out a long, shuddering breath. The tension that had been coiled in his gut all night finally began to unwind. He placed a damp towel over his aching forehead, closed his eyes, and lay back.
Just as he let his mind go blank, he heard a sound at the bathroom door.
"Just leave the clean clothes outside the door," he said, not opening his eyes.
There was no reply, but in the next moment, the door clicked open.
"You don't have to bring them in," he said, glancing toward the door. The sight that met his eyes made him freeze.
It was his aunt. She had opened the door and was stepping into the bathroom. But she was no longer wearing the Golden Eagle Armor. Her long, beautiful hair was held up with one hand. In the other, she held a white bath towel. The towel was draped from her chest down to her thighs, covering something, and yet, seemingly covering nothing at all.
In the hazy steam, a legend came to Leo's mind. In the myths, Athena was blessed by the gods with every gift—beauty, strength, wisdom, and virtue. Perhaps only a goddess could have a form as perfect as the one standing before him.
He had seen it countless times before, but he still found himself staring. When he finally came to his senses, he quickly snatched the towel from his forehead and used it to cover his lap.
"From childhood to now, what's there to see?" Diana said, though it was unclear if she was talking about herself or him. She closed the door and walked barefoot into the bathroom.
"Wh-what are you doing in here?" Leo stammered.
Diana didn't answer. She simply walked to the edge of the bathtub and said softly, "Turn around. Make some room."
"O-okay," Leo replied almost subconsciously, pulling his knees to his chest and scooting into the corner of the tub.
Before he could process what was happening, there was a great splash, and half the water in the tub sloshed over the side.
