Chapter 7 - chapter 7_ poor child

" you can call me Lucian when we are alone." Then he sat down.

"Sit down. You don't need to be scared.

I just came here to address the issue, about what she asked, about not telling you about my identity. And don't try to start treating me differently outside work."

"But I can't. You are..." She stopped, not knowing what to say. She was trying to say that he was not on her level.

"I don't care. What I told you still stands. I'm going to wait for your reply."

With that, he stood up and left for his office.

Selena's heart started racing. "Do you mean I will get to marry my boss? No, that's impossible," she said to herself.

At home, Lucian asked, "Grandpa, where did you meet the girl we set Lucian up with? She is so beautiful."

He smiled. "Her father used to work for me, so I met him last month. We started talking, and I found out he adopted a daughter after his biological daughter went missing."

"Oh, you mean Selena? She is not his real child?"

"Yes," Grandpa replied.

Grandma shook her head. "Poor child," she said.

Grandpa continued, "I saw a picture of her. That was when the idea came to me to set her up with this grandson of mine, but now I don't know what to do."

"Don't worry, Grandpa. We will think of something else to do," Lucian's mom said. "I'm going to give Lucian some food in his office."

"Rosalie, you are the one spoiling this boy," Grandma said.

"Grandma, if I don't, who will? He is all I have."

"Just go."

Grandma waved at her and told her, "Tell that brat to come home early, okay?"

"Okay, Grandma."

She went to get the food and left.

"Did you not spoil Gabriel to the point that he can leave without letting us know the reason?" Grandpa asked her.

"Are you blaming me now?" she asked.

The two of them started arguing.

Wendy came down and saw the scene.

"Are you guys not too old for this?"

They just looked at her and continued arguing.

She sighed and went back upstairs.

When Lucian's mom reached the office, Elias happened to see her. He quickly greeted her.

"Good morning, ma."

"Morning," she replied.

"Is Lucian in his office?"

"Yes, ma," Elias responded.

She took the elevator, and when she got there, she opened the door and saw Lucian holding a file. When he saw her, he dropped it.

"Mom?"

She placed the food on the table. "I know you will be too busy to eat, so I bought you some. Come and try it," she said.

"Mom, you don't have to," he said.

"So get married, so I won't stress myself anymore."

Lucian's lips curved into a smile.

"Now eat," she said.

Just then, Selena came into the office. She forgot to knock.

"Oh, I'm sorry." She quickly apologized and was about to go back when Lucian told her, "Come in."

Lucian's mom was surprised. "Isn't she the girl in that picture?" she said to herself.

Lucian already knew what his mom was thinking.

Selena walked to Lucian's table.

"Good afternoon, ma," she greeted Lucian's mom.

"Afternoon, my dear."

"Sir, I have updated it, so here it is."

Lucian took it and went through it.

Lucian's mom was staring at her, so she was nervous and wanted to quickly leave.

"Good," he said, then dropped it on the desk. "You can go now."

She was about to go when Lucian's mom stopped her.

"What is your name?"

"Selena," she replied.

"I'm Lucian's mom," she introduced herself.

She stared at her.

"Mom?"

"I'm sorry for interrupting you."

"Don't be," she cut her off. "I just came to give him his food."

Selena never expected to see Lucian's mom there.

"Okay, ma. I will take my leave."

She quickly left the office.

"She is so cute," Rosalie said to Lucian. "And what is she doing here? You told us she rejected you."

Lucian remained silent.

"You better start talking," she said.

"Mom, what else do you want me to say? She applied for the position of my assistant before the blind date."

Lucian's mom was so happy. She held his cheek.

"Fate brought you two together!"

Lucian removed her hand from his face. "Mom, please stop being delusional."

"Alright." She picked up her bag.

"I'm going."

"So soon?" he asked.

"You don't even want me here anyway."

"I never said that," he replied.

"Shh," she said. "Eat your food. I'm off."

Grandma said you should come back early," she said before she left.

After Grandpa and Grandma were done arguing, Grandpa decided to call Selena's dad.

"Hello?"

Selena's dad picked up the call.

"It's me, Old Master," Grandpa."

"Good afternoon, sir. I didn't know it was you."

"It's fine," Grandpa replied. "Have you heard anything from Selena?"

"No, sir. But she told her mom she didn't want to talk about it, so I'm planning to invite her over."

"There is something going on that they aren't telling us because my grandson said the same thing."

Selena's father laughed. "But if she says no, let's not force them."

"Alright," Grandpa said before ending the call.

A few minutes later, he heard someone calling him.

"Grandpa! Grandma!"

Just then, Grandma came out of her room.

"Do you want to bring down this house? Grandma, guess what!"

"Just say it," Grandma replied.

"Selena is Lucian's new assistant."

"What?" they both said in surprise.

"Are you serious?"

"Yes. I saw her with my own eyes."

"So this grandson of mine was lying to us!" Grandma said.

"Um... he said he didn't know. It was only after the blind date that he found out."

"Wow, I love this," Grandma said. "We don't need to do anything. Let's just let fate decide."

When Selena got off work, she picked up her bag, and she went to inform Lucian.

"Sir, I'm going," she said.

"Wait. Let me drop you off," Lucian said.

"Don't worry. I want to meet up with a friend, so I'm not going home yet."

"Alright," he replied.

She closed the door and left.

She went to the restaurant Mick had told her about. When she stepped inside, she saw him and walked toward his table before sitting down.

"You're late," he said.

"I lost track of time. So, what do you want to say?" she asked.

"Won't you order something first?"

"No," she replied.
