I ended up on a very open and wide road, looking for the next right turn. I saw it and drove over, turning right. I hit something.. but when I saw what I had hit, I stepped on the brakes almost aggressively so the vehicle would stop. I froze momentarily, I couldn't move. Everyone stopped what they were doing and turned to look outside.
"Holy mother of god.." Nicole cursed low and surprised.
We all stared outside at the army of zombies. The sound of my sudden stop made a squeak sound, which wasn't pleasant for us, in this situation. My hands gripped the wheel tightly.
"What are you doing?? Make a U turn and hurry the hell up, shitty face!" I snapped out of my thoughts as Christian yelled in my ear. His face was right behind me, getting a closer look at the crowd of zombies. The zombies had heard the noise, and we're already making their way over slowly.. but steadily.
I put it on reverse, in a slight panic and quickly turned to make a U turn. As I got out of there, I let out a quiet sigh of relief. That was, until a car passed, going behind me. Survivors? Wait.. there was no one tailing me before.. a coincidence? Out of all of the roads.. I doubt it. But I gave it the benefit of the doubt.
"What the hell? Another car?" Ruby spoke. The car was a dark navy blue. It was your typical taxi car, but the colour made it unique. But as I kept driving, I glanced at the rear view mirror, checking behind me. The care was already back on my trail. I sped up a little, not much but enough to make sure they were tailing us or not. Well.. sure enough, they were. But who, especially around this place?
"What in the world..." Christian spoke in a low voice. His face was still behind me, so I could hear him clearly. I could feel his breath behind my ear, and it sure was damn irritating. But I had to focus on getting the car off our tail.
"Wait, Perry. Why are we running? What if there are survivors in that car, and they saw us as survivors too?" Ruby said, in a slightly worried tone. But Maverick replied.
"Yeah.. but think fast, foes or friends, cuz they are catching up and fast.." he said, looking back at the car tailing us.
"Why don't we give it a tr-" Rexine got cut off by Nicole.
"No, it's Nathan and the others." He said calmly looking out of the car at the mirror, identifying the others.
"What?!?!" Ruby raised her voice a little. "Seriously?? But we were long gone before they could've caught up!??" She said, and I could feel her fear creeping up in her voice. Nicole had an unpleasant expression, and ivy at the back with an uneased one.
"If so, then step on the damn gas, shitty face! We can't risk them catching up to us, at any cost." Christian yelled in my ear once again. I flinched a little, and stepped on the gas, speeding up.
"Jesus jackass, if you'd stop yelling in my ear every damn time!" I retorted back to him, who finally sat down back in his seat, directly behind me. He scoffed, and crossed his arms not saying anything. I kept driving, looking for any turns I could make to have them lose sight of us. But there were none, usually led to highways. And the last thing we needed right now was highways or bridges.
"Turn! Turn! Turn right!" Ruby nagged. I looked at the right turn and kept going straight.
"It's a highway, we can't risk that right now." I stated. Ruby sighed. I looked back, checking the position of the car and it was NOT good.
"Hurry! Oh my god... They're catching up, shit..." Ruby panicked. Sure enough, that was only sensible as they were only still closing in more.
"Dude, they're really close.." Nicole inquired.
"Hurry up, shitty face!" Christian spoke a little agitation in his voice.
"They're catching up, seriously get it together and go!" Maverick nagged me while looking back anxiously.
"Shit shit, go, turn left, we can't keep trailing them on forward!" Rexine kept yelling.
"GUYS!" I shouted, shutting them up. "I'm trying and If you'd let me focus I could." I said stepping harder on the gas. I took a right turn, hoping to lose them. I kept driving.
The anticipation was real... And they drifted to the right, following right on on the tip of our tail. I still sped up, the speed at 70 mph. But, the car only kept speeding up. I swerved over to the other lane, making a U turn. I could tell they weren't expecting that, as they drove forward. I lost them as I drove forward after the U turn.
Everyone sighed in relief, but I had a feeling they were coming back. There's no way it was that easy to lose them. I took a few turns to make sure we actually lost them and sure enough they weren't behind us anymore. I also sighed after that, slowing down a little.
"What's their problem?" Maverick said, with an unpleasant tone.
"What if they still want me? It's fine.. I'll go, if I'm what they want." Ivy spoke. Rexine turned back, and Maverick placed a hand on Ivy's hair and patted her head.
"No way! We'd rather fight to not lose anyone." Rexine said, and Maverick nodded. Me, Ruby, Nicole and Christian didn't say anything.. letting them talk quietly. I stopped the vehicle near a pavement, and rested my hands a little.
"Yeah, no way we'd just give you away. Not after what they put you through, no way in hell." Maverick added, smiling to her slightly.
But before anyone could say anything else behind us took a right turn... The dark navy blue car. I didn't notice, until Christian shouted into my ear again. But I let it slide considering it was for a sensible reason.
"Shitty face... Stop your shitty break and get back on the damn road! The assholes are back!" He yelled. I looked at the mirror.. and sure enough there was the navy blue car behind us. I panicked, and while I was trying to get my hands on the wheel, I accidentally knocked the keys out of place. And when I bent over to pick it up, my head hit the wheel.. and honked the car.
"Shit!" I swore to myself. I picked up the keys as fast as I could, glancing behind me. They were close.. very close. As I started the car again, I hit the gas, immediately speeding up to over 60kmph.
"Jesus.. again?" Rexine cursed. I heard Ruby just sigh, and Nicole with an uneasy expression once again. Maverick looking back behind us before speaking.
"Literally no one cares about the speed limit, go! Go! Go faster!" He kept nagging. Right.. who would I bump into? And the only people I'd run over were zombies. I sped up, and reached over 80kmph. But it was no use, they were closing in.. more.
And it kept continuing. They sped up probably to over the 100kmph mark. And they didn't go to the lane beside us, but kept speeding up behind us.. and that would only lead to a disaster.
"Wait, what the heck? Why aren't they changing lanes?!" Christian asked anxiously.
"Are they trying to cause more trouble than they already are?" Nicole spoke, still keeping his eyes on the car behind us.
And before I knew it, they were only a few feet behind us. The bad news was, they weren't slowing down, only going faster. And well... There is no good news. I tried going faster, but they only sped up more.. coming closer, closer.. closer and ..THUD.
"The audacity to hit us.. seriously?" Ruby said with an unamused scoff. But they didn't give us any more time to react to their next move.
