Chapter 34 - CHAPTER 34 (S2)

I raised an eyebrow and Nicole tried to calm it down, but it didn't. She kept hissing almost non stop. Was she seeing something we all weren't?

but that's stupid, what am I thinking? A cat couldn't possibly. I kept driving... But she kept hissing. Eventually, though.. she calmed down, and laid back on my lap again. I continued driving, for what seemed like 10 decades but was actually 10 minutes, before I made a right turn to an open road. But, what I saw next was... Either concerning, I doubt exciting.. and surprising. A fire. In this situation, a fire?

I stopped in my tracks, hitting the breaks. Everyone stopped doing what they were doing, looking up.

"A fire? In the midst of the day?" Maverick spoke up. Christian on the other hand seemed to be on a completely different page.

"Hey! You seriously didn't have to stop so suddenly, shitty face. I could have broken my nose!" He growled, rubbing his nose.

"Want me to drive into the fire, then?" I replied, before hearing a scoff from him. He looked up before this expression changed completely.

"A fire is unusual.. for this situation." He said, in which I replied.

"Yeah, no shit." I rolled my eyes.

"Well it's true, I didn't think your atom of a brain would understand." He replied. I gave in a sharp exhale before answering again.

"At least I have a brain. Yours is fried and gone." I retorted back to him. He leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms.

"Not true, I could list all the times-" before he could finish his sentence, an irritated Ruby interrupted.

"Jesus, guys! you can't even go 1 minute into a conversation without arguing, can you? And the situation never matters when you guys fight, which makes it all the more worse." Ruby snapped at us. Everyone was quiet but Nicole hummed in agreement and Maverick and Rexine just silently nodded. I stayed silent, huffing before looking out the window and crossing my arms. It was true, we probably can't even go a decent conversation without arguing. But that's just how we are.. and it'd be weird if we ever actually got along.

"Should we... Check out near the fire? Or play it safe?" Rexine asked, breaking the growing tension and silence.

"Safe? That's no fun~ come on, why don't we check it out?" Maverick replied. For one, it would add a little interest but then again I don't think we'd want to risk running into those assholes again. Oh well...

"Well.. I don't think we want to risk running into those bastards again." I spoke. Nicole nodded slightly, and Christian, for all I care, didn't seem to be paying much attention.

"True we probably wouldn't want those guys back on our tail, once is enough anticipation itself.." Nicole stated, which was all true. There was much pressure and anticipation, especially being the one who was driving.

"Yet, it's what adds a little fun to this, don't you think? But.. I don't think it'd be fun if we got caught.." Maverick spoke.

"Why don't we just go forward in the car? That way, we can take off if we see them or get caught." Rexine suggested, looking at me. I thought, and there weren't any loopholes to be worried about, besides it's the best we've got.

"Sure... I mean, better than no plan at all." I replied, turning my body back straight to the wheel and positioning myself to hit the gas once again. The cat, Friday, repositioned herself on my lap.

I started driving over to the scene, which was only a few blocks away. Once we made it there... Well, five words. They beat us to it. I guess we probably didn't notice their car going past us while we were discussing or while me and Christian were fighting.. well it was too late to turn back now anyway... They hadn't noticed us, but Nathan had to turn around. They were standing a little in front of the building on fire, it kind of seemed like they were responsible.. but I doubt that, right? Well, anything is possible, afterall..

"Shit! Make a run for it. I think it's best we leave.. and right now." Christian spoke, and I actually had no argument there this time. So I hit the gas hard, as I drove past them at high speed. And well after a bit, Maverick checked and looked back, to make sure they weren't following us.

"I think we're in the clear.. I don't think they're after us.." Maverick said, while turning back.

"We can only hope." Rexine added. Ruby nodded slightly, looking out the window. Nicole was still trying his best to get the cat to get on his lap, but failed miserably. Christian was just fidgeting with who knows what, and Rexine spaced out. Maverick was still occasionally checking behind. Ivy was dead silent this entire time. But, well, I can't blame her.. she just came back from being traumatised and kidnapped, afterall.

I slowed down a little. I was driving to get away and soft focused on getting away. I didn't realize where the heck I ended up at. I took turns here and threw but.. I think we're lost. Oh boy...

Everyone else also calmed down a little. Now what? It's not very safe to settle back around here, especially with those guys out looking for us.. if they are.

I kept driving, but Friday kept shifting on my lap and wouldn't sit still.

Next thing I knew, she climbed up my chest and jumped on my face. I panicked a little and hit the breaks. I immediately got the cat off my face, and looked to see if I hit anything.

"God, she's one impulsive cat, isn't she?" Rexine said, as Friday climbed onto my shoulder and she skedaddled off to the back onto Christians lap.

"That's for sure.." Maverick replied, chuckling slightly. Christian grumbled something as he pet the cat, a little reluctantly. I continued driving, hoping that the cat wouldn't jump onto me again.

Anyways... Now I really don't know what to do. I mean, there's nowhere to go. Ah.. not to mention, I noticed something weird. Ivy had been extremely quiet.. and judging from Maverick and Rexine's perspective, apparently she was very outgoing. That doesn't suit her at all, though.. Maybe it's because we just met? But she's barely even talking to her siblings. I think I'm just being paranoid, probably.. I mean.. she looks the shy and introverted type..
