There is another side to the world.

It exists in the shadows, a place the light doesn't touch, a stark contrast to the bright, orderly surface that most people know. It's a world of things that ordinary people can't comprehend, a world of the extraordinary.

Heroes are a part of that world.

Leo had lived in this world for sixteen years. He'd learned about the world's first great pirate, Gol D. Roger, in his history books. He'd heard people whisper tales of the mysterious "Dark King" Silvers Rayleigh. He knew of the Four Emperors, the titans who ruled the New World with iron fists. He'd seen the news about the incredible rookie, Monkey D. Luffy, a boy made of rubber who was shaking the world to its core.

He'd even seen, with his own eyes, the "Surgeon of Death," Trafalgar Law, repel a Marine battleship and become one of the most feared pirates of his generation.

But even with the news constantly buzzing about the incredible feats of these larger-than-life figures, Leo had always felt that their world, the world of the extraordinary, was a world away from his own.

The distance between an ordinary person and that world was vast and cruel. It was said that in this world, the rich bought power with technology, while the poor prayed for a mutation, a Devil Fruit. But the chances of crossing that threshold, of touching the extraordinary, were infinitesimally small.

Leo had made peace with his ordinary life years ago.

Until tonight.

First, he'd accidentally gained incredible power from his aunt. Then, he'd run into a girl with spider-like abilities. And now, he was watching a green monster tear through an elite Marine unit.

Never before had he been so close to the other side of the world. He wasn't just peeking behind the curtain anymore; he had one foot through the door.

"Have there always been so many secrets hidden in my own city?" Leo muttered, a bitter taste in his mouth. His entire worldview was being turned upside down. But then, he remembered that the biggest secret of all was his own aunt, the woman he'd lived with for sixteen years. Compared to her, all of this seemed… almost normal.

He watched in shock as the battle raged in the distance. Concrete buildings crumbled like sandcastles. Cannon fire tore through the streets. The snow falling from the night sky evaporated before it could even touch the superheated ground, replaced by a rain of shell casings and shrapnel.

And the Marines were losing. Badly.

At the epicenter of the battle, a military vehicle-mounted Gatling gun spat a torrent of fire, the bullets a stream of molten steel pouring into the smoke and flames. There, in the heart of the inferno, stood a three-meter-tall, green, giant-like monster. Its body was a mass of bulging, iron-hard muscles, with terrifying white bone spurs protruding from its skin. It was naked except for a pair of torn trousers.

It was the physical manifestation of horror and evil. The very sight of it sent a chill down the spine.

It had a name that fit it perfectly.

Abomination.

The monster weaved between the buildings and rubble, dodging the hail of bullets with a speed and agility that seemed impossible for its massive frame. As it moved, the very ground shook.

It smashed through walls, punched craters in the street. Bullets bounced harmlessly off its tough, green hide. It leaped onto one of the military vehicles, crushing it and the soldiers inside into a flat sheet of metal. It picked up an abandoned car and threw it like a toy, sending it crashing into another vehicle full of soldiers thirty meters away.

BOOM!

A rocket slammed into the Abomination. The explosion engulfed it in a ball of fire, the shockwave shattering every window for a block.

But when the smoke cleared, the surviving soldiers were met with a sight that filled them with despair. The Abomination stood amidst the flames, its grotesque, demonic smile revealing that it was completely unharmed.

The battle that followed wasn't a battle. It was a one-sided massacre.

Leo, watching from a distance, felt a knot of dread tighten in his stomach. The green monster exuded an overwhelming sense of danger. He knew that even with his newfound powers, a fall from a skyscraper wouldn't kill him. But a fight with that thing… that would be a different story. His enhanced senses were screaming at him that the monster was more than capable of killing him.

"It's getting late," he told himself, looking away from the brutal slaughter. "I should just pretend I didn't see anything and go home. Auntie will be worried."

He had never wanted to be a hero. He just wanted the powers of one. As for the saying, "With great power comes great responsibility"? He was willing to help, sure, as long as his own life wasn't on the line. But this… this was a death sentence.

He had already died once. He cherished this new life more than anything. The only person he would be willing to die for was his aunt.

And maybe Nami. She would be a close second.

Leo had made up his mind. He turned to leave, but a flash of movement caught his eye. A familiar black-and-white figure was swinging through the gaps between the buildings, heading straight for the battlefield two kilometers away.

It was the spider-girl from the rooftop.

"That idiot! She can't go over there!" Leo's heart pounded in his chest. From their brief encounter, he knew her strength. She was no match for the Abomination. The power gap between them was immense.

If she went, there was only one possible outcome: death.

But it was too late to stop her. All he could do was watch as her slender figure disappeared into the fiery chaos of the city.

"I'm sorry," he gritted his teeth, turning his back on the battlefield. "I only have one life. And I can only give it for them."

He leaped into the night, heading in the opposite direction of the carnage.
