On the city streets, the yellow-green and silver silhouettes collided.
The Abomination's bulging right fist, its muscles rippling with power, slammed into the dark gold shield raised in Leo's hand. The Marine, watching from a rooftop, would never forget the horrifying scene that followed.
The instant the fist and shield met, the air froze. For a moment, half the street fell completely silent. It was so quiet he could hear his own frantic heartbeat.
In the next moment, a terrifying, translucent shockwave erupted from the point of impact, sweeping outward. The ground was instantly peeled away, and the dilapidated street lights, windows, and glass doors along the street were completely shattered by the blast. It was like a missile had detonated on the spot.
Though he was nearly thirty meters away, the Marine was thrown back by the aftershock, his ears ringing. He was slammed into the wall of the building behind him, pinned there by the immense pressure.
And that was just the beginning.
The Abomination's fist pressed against the shield, continuing to exert its monstrous force. The shield's surface glowed with a divine light, absorbing the power and impact, but the residual force still shattered the ground beneath Leo's feet.
As he blocked the punch, Leo's gaze darted past the Abomination's arm to the longsword that was still stuck in the ground behind it. Without his sword, he couldn't even break the monster's tough hide. That was why he had chosen to attack head-on. He needed to get past the Abomination and retrieve his weapon.
The Abomination seemed to sense his intent. It grinned cruelly and brought its other fist hammering down, not giving him a single opening to escape.
BOOM!
The cracked road beneath them finally gave way, collapsing into a half-meter-deep crater. Leo stood in the center of it, his combat boots sunk deep into the earth. Facing this unprecedented crisis, his body remained upright, his hands held steady against the shield.
Just that morning, he had been an ordinary high school student. Now, he was so calm that even he found it incredible. Perhaps it was the divinity he'd inherited from his aunt, a power that tempered his human emotions.
Or perhaps, he was born to fight.
As he blocked the Abomination's frantic blows with his shield, Leo's mind raced, formulating a counter-strategy. Besides the longsword, what other weapons did he have?
That's it!
An idea struck him. Just then, the Abomination stopped punching and instead grabbed the shield, while its other hand came swinging at Leo's head from the side.
Without hesitation, Leo released the shield and raised his arm to block.
The monster's massive green fist slammed into the back of his hand—or more accurately, into the silver bracelet on his wrist.
VMMMM!
A surge of silver energy flared from the bracelet, completely nullifying the Abomination's punch.
"I knew it!" Leo thought, a jolt of surprise and delight running through him. A full set of artifacts was no joke.
Unable to land a blow, the Abomination threw its head forward like a giant green hammer, headbutting Leo and sending him flying fifty meters away. He tumbled across the ground before crashing into the door of a car, the metal frame bending inward with a grotesque shriek.
"Almost screwed that up," Leo gasped, lying on the scrapped car. His forehead throbbed with a burning pain. He reached up and took off the silver tiara. "Isn't a crown supposed to be defensive gear?"
The tiara itself was undamaged, its carved lines intricate and luxurious. But as a piece of defensive equipment, it seemed inferior to the god-forged shield and bracelets. But as he held it in his hand, Leo was struck by another thought. The shape of the tiara… it resembled some kind of long-range weapon.
"It couldn't be," he thought, but a wild possibility took root in his mind. He stood up, holding the silver tiara, and looked at the Abomination charging toward him. Then, with all his might, he threw it.
If Auntie finds out about this, she's going to kill me, the thought flashed through his mind.
WHOOSH!
The tiara flew through the night, a silver gleam that was almost impossible to track. The Abomination, in mid-sprint, suddenly froze. A blossom of green blood erupted from its left eye. The silver tiara circled around its body and flew back into Leo's hand.
Leo stared at the tiara, now back in his hand without a single drop of blood on it, and a shiver went down his spine. Who would have thought that the most beautiful and noble-looking piece of his armor was also the most lethal hidden weapon?
This was the true way to use these artifacts.
Now with both eyes reduced to bloody holes, the Abomination couldn't accept what was happening. It let out a guttural roar, its one remaining eye, now bloodshot and crazed, locked on Leo. It charged, a whirlwind of blind fury.
The monster's massive form grew larger in Leo's silver eyes. Without hesitation, he raised his left arm to block. Then, as if feeling it wasn't enough, he raised his right arm as well, crossing them in front of his body.
The moment the silver bracelets on his wrists clashed together, a unique mechanism was triggered. A surge of power burned through Leo's body, evaporating and converging at the point where his wrists were crossed.
VMMMMMM!
An immense, unknown energy exploded outward from Leo. The blast didn't harm him, but everything around him—the dust, the rubble, and the charging Abomination—was sent flying by the devastating force.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The Abomination was thrown backward, crashing through a building behind it. It flew out the other side and continued, smashing through a second building. It finally came to a stop when it slammed into the outer wall of a third building, the impact so violent it wanted to vomit blood.
It was like a max-level player, thinking they were invincible, being challenged by a mid-level player, only to discover that the mid-level player was decked out in a full set of god-tier gear.
