Ceylon City, the Harbor.
Three days of blizzard finally came to an end, and everything was entering its winter rest.
Only a few players were setting up stalls along the harbor, and they were all shivering from the cold.
Slap!
Suddenly, the calm waves of the harbor began to roll.
Players quickly stepped back, each activating their own skills and getting ready for a fight.
In the waves, a young boy was dragging a huge octopus, step by step, walking out from the ocean.
As the boy walked, slimy secretions from the octopus covered the ground, and the stench was strong.
Players looked in shock at the boy, then at the octopus, which was at least the size of five people.
"Leader, he's alone! That's a Silver Ring Octopus!" one player said excitedly. "It drops Silver Crystals. Let's go!"
"Go to hell, go!" The bearded leader gave his teammate a big thumbs-up. "Did you see his gear? Frost Moon Blade, Silver Dragon Armor. All top-tier items, level 29!"
"level 29..." the player was shocked. "This game just opened three days ago. The highest level is only 19. How the hell did he get that?"
"Secrets? There must be some secret!"
"Secrets, hell!" the leader cursed. "He joined the Peacekeeper class. Do you even know what that is? If players break the city rules and fight on their own, he will bring the Peacekeeper to punish them, take their gear, even their levels!"
"That... isn't something only NPCs can do?" the player said angrily. "If players can do that, how is the game balanced? I'm logging out. I'm going to file a complaint right now!"
The bearded leader licked his lips and laughed coldly. "Don't worry, he won't last long. After that, old and new grudges..."
"Boss, what's going on? Can we beat him?" the player asked curiously.
...
The Peacekeeper Post.
Boom!
George shook his shoulders, and the huge silver ring octopus crashed onto the table, breaking it into pieces, with dust flying everywhere.
"I'm quitting!" George still had ice on his body, but his anger was clear.
"Quitting?" Peacekeeper Marx walked out from behind the octopus, smiling. "You sure?"
"Sure, certain, and absolutely certain!" George reached out. "My file!"
"Sure, players are free to come and go." Marx smiled and held out his hand. A file of George appeared in his palm. George grabbed it, but Marx didn't let go, smiling: "You sure you're quitting? Those players you punished with the NPC Peacekeepers are all waiting for you. Your gear, your level, all belong to the Peacekeeper Office. Once you leave, they'll be taken back. You sure you want to quit?"
George's hand holding the file was trembling. His fingers tightened, and he just crushed the file in his hand. Then he suddenly smiled and let go. "Chief Marx, I was just kidding. How could I not want to be a Peacekeeper? It's such a good job!"
George wanted to scream. He wanted to run up and beat Marx to a pulp. He even wanted to beat up himself from a few days ago.
Why, in the world of so many classes, did he choose Peacekeeper?
"The Supreme Divine Realm" game has so many characters!
There are warriors, mages, alchemists, knights, assassins, rangers... no matter which one, when they reach level 10, they all have their own class skills. Then every three levels, they can strengthen their existing skills once. Every ten levels, they can learn a new skill.
Peacekeeper... from start to finish, no skills at all!
In the Ceylon City Peacekeeper Office, there are fifteen members total. Except for George, the others are all NPCs. The rewards from the NPCs punishing players all ended up in George's hands, the only player peacekeeper. He was way ahead of other players.
But now... this time, he went into the sea to kill this silver ring octopus that roamed the city every night. He met a level 19 warrior... and he almost couldn't beat him!
When players reach level 20 and learn new skills, he... will no longer be a match for them. Should he stop leaving Ceylon City altogether?
Playing a game like this is so frustrating. It's better to just delete the account and start over.
But... it's impossible to delete and start over!
The game recognizes a person's biometric code. No matter how many times you restart, you'll look the same.
The game equipment... was bought by George on loan. If he stops playing, the game company will come after him for the loan. George would go bankrupt in a second, and have no place to live!
And now, as George walked from the harbor to the Peacekeeper Office, he met five level 19 players. Each of them was watching him closely.
These players will all reach level 20 by the day after tomorrow!
When that happens, if he leaves the Ceylon City area, he'll be... given a hard time by these players who have learned two skills.
George collapsed on the ground. In the real world, he was a nobody. In the game, he had to be a nobody too?
"Don't be upset," Marx said, stepping forward and patting George on the shoulder. "We are an enforcement agency. If we can't even beat players, how will the order of Ceylon City stay safe?"
"Can we also get stronger?" George's eyes lit up with hope.
"Of course!" Marx smiled. "You've already proven yourself loyal to the Peacekeeper. This office has specially requested above, and given you a chance to improve yourself. It's a reward for you."
"What kind of chance?" George asked quickly.
"The chance is in your hands. You choose." Marx said, stepping aside. In the empty Peacekeeper Office, five doors appeared: green, blue, purple, red, and gold.
"What's behind the doors?" George asked Marx.
"You'll find out when you go in," Marx said with a smile, waving his arm.
George took a deep breath and walked straight toward the golden door.
[Ding! Congratulations, Host! The Doubling System has been activated!]
[Doubling System: Every time you complete a mission, you get the game reward plus one more from the system. Every time you get a new skill or a new item, the system enhances it. The effect is at least doubled!]
[Ding! Congratulations, Host! You have been given the chance to learn the secret skills of the Peacekeeper Office!]
George had just stepped out of the golden door when a voice rang in his mind.
Then the golden light disappeared, and in front of him stood a huge wooden barrel.
Around the barrel, there were countless monster corpses, piled up in a mess.
A girl with a pointed hat, who looked like a witch, was biting her lip hard. She held a broom in both hands and was stirring the monster meat inside the barrel.
When the girl saw George, she shook the broom. The blood and meat on it fell off immediately, and the broom was clean.
She flew on the broom and landed in front of George. "You're here to learn the secret skill? My name is Louise."
NPC Louise was wearing a tight-fitting robe. Her chest bounced as she moved. George was a little stunned. When he looked into her eyes, he bowed and said, "Please teach me."
"Teach you?" Louise looked George up and down. "You want to learn my secret skill? Fine, but you have to do me a favor first!"
"What kind of favor?" George asked.
"Do you see all these monster corpses?" Louise waved her broom and pouted, her small teeth clenched. "Players use the dead bodies to exchange for healing potions. But healing potions aren't endless. I have to make them from these broken corpses. How can I make them?"
Louise kicked the corpse in front of her angrily, then turned to George. "There are tree spirits deep in the ice. Go kill one for me. They eat monster meat, and I can get their sap to make healing potions. Then I won't have to work so hard every day. When I'm done, I'll teach you the secret skill. Go now!"
Without giving George a chance to refuse, Louise waved her broom. A strong wind howled, and a gust of wind blew straight at George.
