Makoto Misumi, usually called Makoto, had a secret unknown to anyone. That secret was that he was a transmigrator from the modern era. In his previous world, he had been an otaku who loved fantasy- and isekai-themed stories. In that former world, he had been on his way home from a convenience store when he was suddenly struck by lightning without warning and died on the spot.
Makoto was now sixteen years old. Memories of his past life suddenly resurfaced along with a severe headache while he was playing a popular game of that time with his younger sister, Mari Misumi, who had invited him to play, and his older sister, Yukiko Misumi, who was reading the latest novel written by their father, Hayato Misumi. The intense pain caused him to lose consciousness, throwing both of his sisters into panic.
When Makoto regained consciousness, he found himself in a hospital.
"Where is this?" Makoto asked in confusion as he looked around and realized that he was in a hospital room.
Suddenly, the door opened.
"Onii-chan, you've finally woken up!" said Mari as she entered the room.
"I just woke up… why am I in the hospital?" Makoto asked, still confused.
"You fainted while playing games with Mari," Yukiko replied as she entered after her.
"How is your condition, Makoto?" Yukiko asked while placing some fruit on the table.
"I feel fine, Onee-chan. It's just that my head feels a little dizzy," Makoto said as he reached for a banana Yukiko had placed on the table.
"In that case, you should rest some more. Mari and I will head home first," Yukiko said.
"But we just got here, Onee-chan," Mari protested, holding Yukiko's hand and acting spoiled.
"Come on, Mari. Makoto needs rest right now. We can come back tomorrow," Yukiko said while gently patting Mari's head.
"Alright, Onee-chan. Onii-chan, I'll come again tomorrow," Mari said with a smile.
After his sisters left, Makoto focused on his memories. He recalled his previous life—back then, his name had also been Makoto. He had been an orphan, and after becoming independent, he spent his free time watching anime and reading manga. His last memory was walking home from a convenience store when his vision suddenly went dark, his body stiffened, and excruciating pain spread throughout his entire body. That was the final memory he could recall.
Suddenly, Makoto sensed something within his consciousness. When he focused on it, he saw a small, mysterious spherical object emitting a faint, gentle light. Although he did not know what it was, his instincts told him that it was the reason he had transmigrated.
That was right—Makoto was a transmigrator who would become the protagonist of an anime titled Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy, also known as Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu. Makoto felt his heart beating rapidly. Before transmigrating, he often fantasized about how colorful life would be if he could use magic and travel to another world.
After calming himself down, Makoto began recalling when the plot of the story would begin. After thinking carefully and remembering the anime's storyline, he realized that the plot started during the second year of high school. He was currently sixteen years old and had just entered high school, which meant he still had roughly one year to prepare before meeting the god Tsukuyomi.
For now, the only thing Makoto could do was rest.
The next day, after undergoing various medical examinations, the results showed that Makoto's body was healthy and he was allowed to go home. Once he arrived home, Makoto immediately made a list of things he needed to prepare over the next year:
Learn survival skills in extreme environments and study a wider variety of martial arts techniques
Learn as much knowledge as possible
Learn how to cook
Watch historical dramas and anime
After finishing his plan for the coming year, the next day Makoto went to visit the archery dojo to meet his sensei. When Makoto entered, he saw his sensei sitting calmly while drinking tea.
"Why did you come to the dojo?,I heard you fainted yesterday'' the sensei asked while sipping his tea.
"How do you know that, Sensei?" Makoto asked, slightly surprised.
"Don't you know? I'm friends with Yukiko and Mari on social media," the sensei replied casually.
Makoto was left speechless for a moment before explaining his purpose.
"You want to learn survival skills and more diverse martial arts techniques?" the sensei asked, surprised by Makoto's words. "Is your head really okay after fainting yesterday?" he added jokingly.
Makoto answered in a serious tone. "I'm serious, Sensei."
The sensei fell silent for a moment before speaking again. "I don't know what's on your mind or what you plan to do. But I've watched you grow up—from a weak, crybaby child to someone who can now be called a skilled archer." The sensei looked into Makoto's determined eyes and said, "Alright. I'll teach you survival skills and the martial arts techniques that I know."
Makoto felt overjoyed and thanked his sensei sincerely. After leaving the dojo, Makoto went to the library to find books he would read. After wandering around and hesitating for a while, he decided to start by studying books about various types of plants. After borrowing the books from the library, Makoto immediately went home and began studying them.
