Chapter 1 - CH 1: Talon Reeve

Veltrax City, West Sector 3. Burner College Campus.

Behind the school building, hidden just enough to avoid the cameras but not far enough to escape the noise, three male students were stomping on another boy curled up on the ground.

"This… is… what… you… get, you stupid pretty faced bastard," one of the attackers grunted, putting force behind every kick as if each word came with a purpose.

The second guy spit on the ground and followed it with another hard kick to the ribs. "We told you not to let us catch you again, you stupid bastard."

'I don't even know you, dickhead,' the boy on the ground thought, squinting through the pain as the kicks kept coming.

"Alright, that's enough. Leave the dipshit alone," the third one finally said, grabbing both of them by their arms. "We gotta go before someone sees us."

The three of them ran off around the corner, their laughter still echoing faintly behind them.

Talon Reeve slowly pushed himself up off the concrete and dusted himself off with shaky hands. His ribs ached, and the side of his stomach throbbed like it had been slammed with a metal bat. He leaned against the wall, breathing heavily as he tried to steady himself.

'At least they didn't mess up my face. But damn… that hurt like hell. This world is way worse than I thought it'd be.'

Talon wasn't originally from this world. He was from Earth. Just yesterday, he had been swimming in a river with his friends, laughing and splashing around, when a massive alligator came out of nowhere. Its jaws snapped toward his head, and before he could even scream, it rolled with him in its mouth. Everything went black. The last thing he remembered was the twisting motion as his neck cracked.

Then he woke up this morning, in a stranger's bed, inside a stranger's body. The man who called himself Talon's father had come into the room, telling him to hurry and get dressed for school. That was how it all started.

As Talon rode in the car on the way to school, he scrolled through the old phone that came with the body. That was when he found out that this world was full of people called Supers. People who had awakened random superpowers. There were heroes, and there were criminals.

And then there were the ones everyone feared the most. Rogues. Supers who never registered with the government. They didn't care about rules. Most Rogues went around killing registered Supers and innocent people just for the hell of it. Anyone who awakened had only forty eight hours to register or risk being labeled a Rogue.

To fight against them, society relied on the ones who followed the rules. Government approved Supers who tried to keep the balance.

Talon also read about something called Super Gates. Giant structures that appeared randomly across the world. Researchers believed they were made from something called Super Matter. Each Gate had a unique theme, like fire, ice, swamp, desert, or storm. Inside the Gates were monsters called Super Beasts. People entered them to hunt those creatures, collect rare materials, and uncover items that only existed inside the Gates.

The more Talon read, the more it felt like a game world come to life. He even read that most awakenings happened during emotional spikes, usually fear, anger, or intense pressure.

But today at school, Talon didn't get to enjoy any of that. He had gone to every class like normal. But when it came time to leave, those three jerks jumped him behind the school and beat him down. They acted like they knew him and claimed they warned him before, but Talon couldn't recall them ever saying a word. From what he remembered, they mostly glared and walked past him.

Now, leaning on the wall, holding his ribs, Talon stared down at the gravel under his shoes.

"Fuck… I'll get those bastards back."

Right as the words left his mouth, a flash of yellow energy exploded across his body, bright and hot, wrapping him in a glowing aura before vanishing just as quickly as it came.

Then, a soft ding rang inside his head, like a notification.

[Welcome to the Creation system, congratulations on awakening your superpower… starter gift has been given, and rules have been set]

Talon blinked in confusion. His eyes flicked between the notification and his hands. "I just… got my superpower? And a system? At the same time?"

He hesitated, then cleared his throat. "Uhh… hello, system?" He waited. Silence. "Guess it doesn't talk."

Shrugging, Talon began walking home, testing out different commands in his head the whole way. It took him a while, but by the time he arrived at the front door of his house, he had a decent idea of how the system worked.

Fixing his posture to avoid looking like he just got beat down, Talon opened the door and stepped inside.

"How was school, Talon?" his dad, Rolan Reeve, called out from the living room without looking up.

"It was alright. Didn't really learn much today. I'm heading to my room. Got some work I need to finish."

"Alright. Just be out by dinner."

Talon closed the door behind him and made his way into his room, flopping into the computer chair and pulling up the system interface.

[Inbox]*

The inbox had a blinking notification, so he opened it.

[your Starter gift: Free D-Rank Creation Card]

[ACCEPT] [CANCEL]

Talon accepted it immediately. Then, mentally, he selected the Creation Space. The moment he blinked, the world around him turned pure white.

He now stood in an empty space, alone except for a featureless humanoid figure standing directly in front of him. It had no gender, no expression, and no clothing.

When he walked closer, the system presented new options.

"So I can do all this in my head, huh?" Talon said to himself, rubbing his chin. "Alright… let's make someone useful. I need a bodyguard. Yeah. That sounds right. A bodyguard would be good for now."

He focused hard, imagining the kind of person who could protect him. A few minutes passed as he shaped the figure in front of him.

When he was done, the man had short yellow hair and sharp amber eyes that resembled a tiger's. He stood tall and muscular at six foot six, dressed in tactical black street gear, looking like someone who would rip apart anyone who tried anything.

Talon pressed the Create button. The character lit up for a moment, then reset back into a blank figure.

[The D-rank Character "Blake Kuro" has been created, and will arrive shortly]

"I guess I'll wait then," Talon said, backing out of the Creation Space and returning to his room. He sighed, then opened up his own stats.

(Talon Reeve)

(Power: Emberglass)

(Rank: C)

"Oh! C rank?" Talon's eyes lit up. "That's not bad at all. Definitely better than average, but not too rare either."

He closed the interface and held up his hand. A red glass like flame formed around it, solidifying into a glove of glowing, crystallized fire. It radiated heat, but he couldn't feel any of it directly.

With a thought, he closed his hand, shattering the crystal and making the fire vanish. Then he left his room and walked into the living room.

"Dad, I awakened. I'm going up to register at the local SRB." Short for Super Registration Bureau.

Rolan froze in place for a second, then turned around with a grin. "You awakened? Hahaha! My son's finally got power. Good job, kid. Now I don't have to worry about you as much anymore."

"That's the first thing you think of?" Talon said, raising an eyebrow. "What about the money? You know we could actually make something outta this."

"Money too, yeah," Rolan chuckled. "Anyway, food'll be done in five minutes. Go chill on the couch. Also, what's your power?"

"I think I can make these fire crystals," Talon said, summoning a glowing red shard in his hand. It flickered like molten glass, and the heat was intense. Rolan stepped back a bit.

"Damn, that thing's hot. Yeah, that's at least

C rank for sure. Looks dangerous, too. Now put it away before it burns a hole in the couch."

Talon closed his fist, shattering the shard, then dropped onto the couch.

But just as he sat down, the doorbell rang.

"Seriously? I just got comfortable," Talon muttered, groaning as he stood back up and walked to the front door.

When he opened it, there he was. The man Talon had just created. Blake Kuro.

"Ah, Blake. You're here. Come in," Talon said, stepping aside. Blake had to duck slightly to fit through the doorway.

"Boss. What do you need me to do?" Blake asked, standing tall and calm.

"First, meet my father. Be respectful," Talon said, motioning toward the kitchen. "Dad, this is Blake. My new bodyguard. Blake, this is my dad, Rolan."

Blake stepped forward, towering over Rolan, and extended a hand. "Hello, Sir Rolan. Nice to meet you."

"Hello, Blake," Rolan said, shaking his hand while staring up at him. "Talon, when did you get a bodyguard?"

"Today. Don't worry, I didn't do anything illegal," Talon said, waving it off. "Come on, Blake. Sit down. We've got a few things to go over."

Blake nodded and sat next to Talon on the couch.

"So, do you have your ID and your Super ID?" Talon asked, leaning forward with interest.

"Yes. I have both," Blake replied, pulling them from his pocket.

"Good. You're coming with me to the SRB. That cool with you?"

"I'll go wherever you need me to go," Blake said without blinking.

Talon leaned back and crossed his arms. "Alright. Do you have anywhere to stay?"

Blake shook his head.

Talon sighed. "Yeah, I figured".

'I'll need to start finding a place for everyone I make. Can't just summon people without giving them a roof and food.'

Before he could think more about it, Rolan's voice called out from the kitchen.

"Food's done!"

—————————

After they finished eating dinner, Talon and Blake didn't waste any time. They cleaned up quickly and then left the house, making their way toward the Super Registration Bureau. The SRB building wasn't just big, it was intimidating. As they walked up the long staircase leading to the front entrance, Talon tilted his head back to look up at the towering structure. It stretched high into the sky, made of thick reflective glass and steel, giving it the kind of authority you couldn't ignore even if you wanted to.

When they finally reached the top of the steps, Talon pushed open one of the large double doors, and they both stepped inside. The moment they entered, Talon's eyes widened a little. The place was buzzing with activity. Dozens of Supers, both new and experienced, moved around the lobby like ants in a hive. Some stood in lines, others were being escorted by staff. The place was huge and efficient, but also a little overwhelming.

Talon and Blake made their way toward the front desk. A woman wearing a navy blue uniform sat behind a curved counter, typing quickly on a screen before she noticed them approaching. She looked up with a polite smile.

"Hello," she said, her voice clear and professional. "How may I assist you two gentlemen today?"

Talon stepped forward and rubbed his arms a little, already feeling the chill that lingered in the air. The place was colder than he expected. "It's just me, actually. He's already registered. I awakened today, and I came to get my Super ID."

The woman nodded and gave a quick glance at Blake, who stood tall and still beside Talon like a proper bodyguard. "Ah, I see. He's your personal guard then?"

"Yeah," Talon replied with a short nod. "Why is it so cold in here though? Feels like the air conditioning's cranked up all the way."

The receptionist chuckled softly and leaned in a little, lowering her voice as if she were sharing a secret. "That would be because of the president of this SRB branch. She's a powerful Super, and her ability causes the temperature around her to drop significantly. She can't really help it. But don't worry, you'll get used to it after a while."

She turned and grabbed a clipboard off her desk, then handed it over to Talon along with a pen. "Here. Fill this out. Once you're done, your Super ID should be ready in about ten minutes."

Talon took the clipboard, nodded, and stepped to the side. As he started filling out the form, his handwriting slowed slightly. His fingers were cold and a bit stiff, and he could still feel the chill crawling up his sleeves. He filled out his name, date of awakening, current power, and a few other details. Once finished, he placed the pen back on the counter and handed the clipboard back to the receptionist.

Before she could turn away, Talon raised his hand slightly to catch her attention again. "Hey, quick question. What are the requirements to start a Super Organization? I've been thinking about putting one together."

The receptionist blinked, her expression faltering just for a second before she composed herself. It wasn't every day a teenager walked in asking about starting an organization, especially one who looked freshly awakened. She glanced at Blake again, noting his stature and presence. Maybe this kid really was from a well-off family, or maybe he had some backing.

"Well," she began, folding her hands on the counter, "to start an official Super Organization, you need a minimum of four members. That includes yourself. You'll also need to register a physical headquarters or building that the organization will operate out of. It has to be stable, not just a rented apartment or some temporary setup."

Talon tilted his head slightly and repeated it back to her, just to be sure. "So… four members and an actual building?"

"Yes," the woman confirmed, her voice steady again as she collected the filled-out form. "Once you meet both of those requirements, you can come back here and file for official recognition. Until then, your group won't be considered a legal organization under the Super Act."

"Alright, good to know," Talon replied, stepping back and moving toward the waiting area.

He dropped into one of the nearby chairs, and Blake sat down next to him without saying a word. The chair creaked a little under Blake's weight, but he stayed still, his eyes quietly scanning the room while Talon sat back and stared up at the ceiling.

"I wonder who the president is," Talon muttered, crossing one leg over the other and rubbing his hands together to warm them up. "If she's the one making this place feel like a freezer, she must be insanely powerful."

Time passed quickly after that. About ten minutes later, a different staff member walked up and handed Talon a sleek plastic card. It had his name, rank, and ability printed cleanly on the front, along with a scannable code at the bottom.

With that in hand, Talon stood up immediately. "Alright, let's get outta here," he said under his breath, adjusting his jacket as he headed toward the exit. Blake stood as well, trailing a few steps behind him as they stepped back out into the warm afternoon sun.

Talon took in a deep breath of fresh air and felt the cold finally leave his skin. He turned to Blake with a serious look.

"Next stop is a Free Gate," Talon said as he slid the Super ID into his pocket. "You ready for that?"

Blake gave a single firm nod, keeping his expression calm and unreadable.

Free Gates were what most Supers called the lowest level Gates, typically ranked F. They didn't require any kind of payment or special permission to enter, and they didn't offer much in terms of rewards either. No rare items. No high value materials. But they were perfect for training. Most people went into them just to sharpen their combat instincts, especially those who had just awakened.

Talon looked toward the street where the local shuttle stop was. "Let's go then," he said, and the two of them began walking away side by side.
